  1. Good input! I've used drill book and would like to see that become more interactive with multiple devices. I didn't know about the Madison Scouts app having recordings in it. That's definitely a nice feature to be able to pull up. Thank you. "GM"
  2. I hadn't heard about "Mid-Set" for iPhone. I'll definitely check it out. I like to use Tonal Energy myself. Great app! "GM"
  3. Hey everyone, I'm writing an article on the best apps for marching bands, drum corps and guards. I'm taking a poll and need your help--what are the best ones YOU use? What do you recommend? Or what would you like to see in the future? Thanks. "GM" Email: GMKuzmaAuthor@aol.com

  10. Halftime Magazine (www.halftimemag.com). Check out the current issue here. Hello everyone... As a writer for Halftime magazine, I’m putting together another article reviewing this year’s DCI World and Open Class drum corps for an edition this fall. This next article will feature the top two drum corps in World and Open Class as well as Caption Award Winners, Drum Majors of the Year, Directors of the Year, and Most Improved Drum Corps accolades. I am presenting an opportunity for drum corps staff members, support staff volunteers, members and alumni of these drum corps to participate in an interview with me to be considered for the article. I am particularly interested in finding out your impressions of this year: ...Were you a member of the top two drum corps in World (Carolina Crown, Blue Devils) or Open Class (Vanguard Cadets, Blue Devils B)? ...Are you a fan that attended DCI World and/or Open Class Championships this summer? ...In light of the economy and fuel prices/logistics/housing challenges, how did you feel the summer tours compared to previous seasons? ...Got a good story or funny episode on tour? ...What were your impressions of this year's results (particularly with a new World Class Champion)? ...Regardless of your role in the activity, I will consider your input for the fall edition of the magazine. I have a short deadline to wrap this season up. Email me now for an interview! Musically, -=GM=- Gregory M. Kuzma Writer Halftime Magazine www.halftimemag.com GMKuzmaAuthor@aol.com

  12. Here's an update on the Blue Knights website: PRESS RELEASE: BLUE KNIGHTS EVACUATE REHEARSAL SITE IN COLORADO 6/3/2013 Conifer, Col. - The Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps was forced to evacuate Evergreen High School during their rehearsal Monday afternoon due to a forest fire in the local area. Members and staff quickly packed what they could carry onto buses at Evergreen High School and were safely transported to Conifer High School for an overnight stay until the on scene incident commander could give the "all clear" to return to Evergreen. Director Mark Arnold stated that he expects the drum corps to be cleared to return in the morning. "The members and staff of the Blue Knights and other evacuees are safe at Confier High School," said Mark Arnold. "We want to thank everyone for their support and well wishes." The incident commander also allowed the Blue Knights' Food Truck to transit to Confier High School to provide meals to the members, staff and other evacuees while the drum corps beds down for the evening. While the drum corps planned on opening its truck to the members, staff and other evacuees from the fire, The Angry Llama restaurant donated food and t-shirts to the members. The Blue Knights would like to thank the communities of Evergreen and Conifer for their gracious support of the drum corps during this challenging time.
  13. Greetings Drum Corps Planet! I'm putting together a story featuring "drum corps emergencies" for the next issue of Halftime Magazine. This is excellent opportunity to share how YOUR drum corps successfully overcome an emergency to demonstrate how your organization can handle anything. (NOTE: You can share your story anonymously if you do not wish to receive credit for the story). STORY: I am particularly interested in any crazy mishaps and crisis your drum corps dealt with while on your national tour: Fires, water shortages, miscommunications about availability of facilities, broken down buses and/or trucks, sick kids, fire alarms, muddy fields, or any other emergency that changed your plans but you overcame. If you (or someone you know) would like to partake, email me THIS week for additional details/information. Musically, -=GM=- Gregory M. 15. Halftime Magazine (www.halftimemag.com). Here it is...the long-awaited, heartily argued story on the Top-5 Most Legendary DCI Shows of all time. "What was the most legendary drum corps show ever to grace the football field? Did you jump out of your seat as you observed the most amazing drill move? Which performance held you captive as you listened to the most beautiful musical arrangement? Was there a show where you witnessed something that changed the activity in a way that still had you talking about it years later? Halftime Magazine asked drum corps directors, instructors and fans to give us their take on the most legendary shows in drum corps international history. Here are their collective picks and what made those shows so special." "Trying to determine the most legendary shows in drum corps is no small task. Sure, there are the “fan favorites”—such as Carolina Crown’s “Triple Crown” in 2007 or The Blue Devils’ “Big, Bad and Blue” that featured “When a Man Loves a Woman” in 1992—that captured the emotions and tugged at the hearts of fans around the world. You could even consider every championship show a legendary performance dating back to the Anaheim Kingsmen’s program capturing the very first medal in 1972. But even runners-up and other finalists may have had standout presentations but simply been ahead of their time. To help figure out which shows made a lasting impact on the activity, Halftime Magazine asked drum corps directors, instructors, members, alumni and fans to help us rank the top five most legendary Drum Corps International performances of all time..." 23. G is spot-on! This has all to do with what is the most "game changing/most memorable/most-amazing-thing-to-hit-the-football-field" show ever in DCI history. It appears we are getting some repeat shows listed and that is helping validate them. But there are a few new ones recently noted as well...keep it up. Last note: When you provide your most legendary show(s), please continue to explain why they are the most legendary, in your opinion. I may be contacting you through PM for more if you provide a valid argument which may be included in the Halftime Magazine story. Thanks everyone! -GM
  24. Hello everyone, Although it is true that I occasionally pop into DCP, I somehow missed this entire post with inquiring questions about my book. After almost 3 years, I will attempt to answer what inquiring minds want to know: GM: My intent of this publication was simply to share an experience of what it would be like to march in a drum and bugle corps. It helps put things in perspective compared to how they were 10, 20, or 30 years ago. I still find myself picking the book up and recalling an emotion or particular memory from it. Whenever I talk to someone about marching drum corps, I always recommend they themselves keep a journal or take notes. It's great to go back and read something that took place years before and still recall the good times with the bad. Drum corps has made such an impact on my life--I wanted to share my timeless experience. GM: Good question! Actually, I don't think they can claim royalties because I believe it had been done before (just can't recall when off the top of my head). If anyone is to get credit for that buffoonery it would be David Bayardelle (my best friend) as I recall it being his idea (although the corps staff doesn't believe he would do something so silly like that since he marched lead baritone in '93 Star). Before we wen't on tour, David showed me drum corps VHS tapes of SCV and BK and Star which we watched for hours at his house. In fact, a couple of his VHS tapes were so worn out, they stopped working (right after the streaks started getting worse...thank goodness for DVD but I'm sure if anyone can wear out a DVD, it would be him). GM: This is a good question. I know it wasn't directed to me, however from when I talk to people who have read this part of my book, most say they cringe due to it being bad juju to really go crazy for another corps while wearing your full uniform. I should note that there is NOTHING wrong with clapping or the occasional whistle for another group that you admire. It's when you take part in a sacred tradition by going "over the top" with something like standing up in the first few rows of a sold-out stadium yelling; "Vaaaaaanguaaaaaaard!!!" at the top of your lungs while decked out in your corps' uniform. Then, looking around to see no one else in the stadium left their seats to join you in the yell. In fact, they are all starring at YOU (and not SCV) trying to figure out who the heck you are. At the time, it was a serious foul but when I think back on it now, I just laugh! At any rate, if you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask. GM: Unfortunately, I never made it to the Indy DCI Championships. However, if you'd like me to autograph your book that you already own, let me know (GMKuzmaAuthor@aol.com) and we can figure it out. Also, if anyone would like an autographed copy, you may purchase through the book's own wesbite: www.GregoryMKuzma.com (for $15, save $2.95 from retail price): http://www.gregorymkuzma.com and I will personally ship it to you. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or comments about my book. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it! Musically, -GM Kuzma
  25. Halftime Magazine (www.halftimemag.com). Check out the current issue here. Hello everyone... As a writer for Halftime magazine, I’m putting together another article reviewing the FAN'S CHOICE of the Most Legendary DCI World Class drum corps show of all time (from 1972). FROM THE HALFTIME MAGAZINE WEBSITE: "Halftime Magazine is writing a feature story about the Most Legendary Drum Corps Shows (focusing on the years since the formation of Drum Corps International). We would love to hear your feedback, which may be included in the article. This is your chance to tell the world which drum corps had the most legendary show ever--not necessarily who was the best champion." Which DCI show made you jump out of your seat as you observed the most amazing drill move? Which performance held you captive as you listened to the most beautiful musical arrangement? Or was there a show where you witnessed something you had never seen or heard before from the field that had you talking about it years later? Or which show made a lasting impact on the entire drum corps movement? Nominate your favorite legendary DCI show of all time online in the comments section of the Halftime webpage or by clicking here to "Contact Us" with subject line, “Legendary Drum Corps Shows.” NOTE: Comments must be posted and emails sent by midnight on June 15, 2010, to be considered. Then read the winners’ list in our upcoming July/August 2010 issue. This is a great opportunity to speak your mind about the most legendary show ever for drum corps staff members, support staff volunteers, members and alumni of these drum corps to be considered for the article.
