I think DCI has taken the art and sport of drum corps to incredible levels, but at what cost? What is DCI doing to grow the activity? The barrier of entry to even exist, much less compete, is so high, that many aren't able to survive. Of course I'm assuming that DCI even cares about the future of the activity, but there doesn't seem to be an investment by DCI to develop new corps. I think WGI is better in that way. DCI's mission may simply be to create an Elite group of corps, leaving an opportunity for another drum corps association to fill the gap. Maybe DCA fills that gap.
Unfortunately, it does seem that group activities like drum corps are less popular among today's youth. I'm sure there are pockets around the country that are an exception, but does anyone share that view?
