  1. OK, then - now there's just one mystery left... Do you know, or did you ever date, the young lady on the right?
  2. Good point. I'd like to thank a couple of groups that won't know I'm thankful or appreciate - both Veterans' groups - American Legion Post 1246 in Oceanside NY, in particular Harvey Hussar and Roy Johnson, who gave limitless time to direct the Legionnaires Drum Corps, without which I would have missed this activity. Those guys and the other members of that post gave us a great activity at a time before soccer moms and dads, when kids without an activity were left making it up on the fly - many of them made questionable choices. Drum Corps was a great way to spend the 50s and 60s. VFW Post 979 on Marshall Rd in Upper Darby PA - the post that lived for the Archer Epler Musketeers. That was a nearly perfect marriage of veterans' support and drum corps. Many thanks to Eddie - the Commander, bartender, Emperor of that particular piece of real estate, and to Viet Nam vet Chas Coffman (also a pretty mean baritone) that kept the relationship between post and corps running smoothly. Also a great bunch of veterans from both the Marine and USAF drum corps that played at Archie - guys like Danny Fitzpatrick; Joe Schmids; Billy Taylor (RIP); Bobby Gaff; the afore-mentioned Chas Coffman; and more whose names are not leaping to my old brain. In my day, Drum Corps and Veterans' groups went hand in hand - and we all benefited. Thanks ladies and gentlemen.
  3. You see, playing against you, Andy, and Elpheba (when the subject is from CT somewhere) is not even close to fair. "and I think you all remember that subject Bill brushed his hair from right to left until the Dream Contest when he reverted to his famous crew cut. In July that year he switched from Pepsident to Ipana so you may see a little different gleam to his teeth. And of course you all know that the front left tooth is a bridge, as Bill lost that one in a rock throwing contest against Sky in a parking lot in Yonkers in 1958..." You guys just know too much ####!
  4. Yessir - turned 11 on September 12th of that year...
  5. Glenn, I knew who it was after Andy's "Jack" reference. I think I encountered Bob after he was much older than the picture, which looks like it was taken when I was about 10.
  6. Amen brother... Lotta folks (I can only speak to our time) that went right from one uniform to another. Something about being taught to honor that flag I guess. Hope this latest batch of kids get home safe and sound, and that they're received well by their fellow Americans.
  7. I have a feeling she's about 69, which as you know is any age you want it to be.
  8. I know Condon & Wood were the big team, but I thought this gentleman was involved when Ed taught? Wrong again? I should read your corps history I guess...
  9. And he and Eddie Condon made a splendid combination teaching drill if my memory serves me.
  10. Brian - what's up kid? Long time! Glad to hear you're still playing. Let's talk...
  11. He never seemed like a Tennessee Drinking type of guy... Even during a storm... But historian Fish would know better - probably Elpheba too...
  12. Ah man, Andy... Now I'm all dizzy and headachey again. Storm theme... so not the Hurcs? Or maybe just earlier, like the late 50s when Bob Beam, is that the name or was it some other whiskey you were referring to? I get so confused. Sort of Northern Uncomfortable...
  13. I still remember Marksmen's version of "Something's Coming" from WSS. The mellos did something I can only remember as "Woo" over and over again. Seems around 1965. I'm not sure I remembered that they were still fielding a corps in 1968. I'm trying to remember (for the middle guy) who was using those hats during the 60s. Hurcs, but not as Gestapo-ish (no offense intended to anyone that wore similar hats - it's always the way I thought of them). The inference I'm drawing from the picture is that the corps WON the show, or they wouldn't have gotten to pose with Duke and the babe (I'm guessing she's now in her late 70s?) Marksmen won in Agawam fairly often; Sun sometimes; Interstatesmen? Alan Smythe maybe?
  14. Well if #3 isn't Jackie Kennedy I think it's Audrey Hepburn...
  15. Not Duke Terrerri either. Or Edwin "Duke" Snider of the Brooklyn Dodgers...
  16. Fish you know this better than most - I don't ever get REAL good at anything...
  17. You have a very charming way of explaining. You could be a prince, like Prince Charming... Or maybe an Earl or a Duke... Was there a Duke Charming?
  18. Was the guy in the middle one of the Wild Ones? Reminds me of a joke... "I know a girl from Ireland..." "Oh, really?" "No, O'Reilly!"
  19. So she's NOT Jackie Kennedy? That was the only one I thought I had...
  20. Tonto? Oh wait - that's Toronto... that can't be right. Cochise? Hiawatha? I'm stumped... Jersey City?
  21. Lots of positive thoughts going out to the whole Don family. I'm sure they'll get each other through the challenging days ahead. Hope Bonnie stays as comfortable as they can make her. Thanks for the updates Tom. No one else on this board is allowed to get sick any time soon.
  22. Mike, Thinking like me is maybe something you don't want on your resume'... just sayin' I went to London when I worked for British Airways but two things kept me from enjoying it much: a) the food. Really? b) the language. Couldn't learn it to save my life. Nice place though, although I think my grandmother's brother spent his entire life trying to blow it up. that's another story for another day though...
