  1. I'm looking for two tickets to finals (Saturday show). Let me know if you have any.
  2. I am looking for 4 tickets for semifinals and finals (4 for each night). If you have any available, please email me or post here.
  3. No offense intended Ron! Without you "scalpers" I wouldn't have tickets and it would be a long drive from New Orleans to San Antonio if I didn't get to see some drum corps :-)
  4. I am looking for 3 good seats to the San Antonio show. Please email me if available, willing to pay for them ASAP. Does anyone know if scalpers are usually selling tickets at the show?
  5. The yell is designed into the show and is intended by the staff as part of the effect of the drop in music. Feel free to refrain from doing it, but not because you would be "ruining the silence". The silence isn't the intention. I will be yelling my ### off.
  6. The problem last year with keeping the scores through finals was that I was AT finals and couldn't enter the scores because of a lack of internet access at my hotel. This year, John is running the score entry and I believe has some backups to keep everything running smoothly all summer. Check out the stats section, it is really cool!
  7. Chuck King really IS an idiot. I was at both shows, and Bluecoats was one of the top 3 percussion secions on the field. His score for Crown was entirely too high, and this is coming from a veteran of the percussion section there. Check out the scores from 1999. He dropped us (Crown percussion) an entire point between semis and finals, costing us placement as well. Yes, performances do change, but not that drastically, and the recordings can be compared if you don't believe me.
  8. Hello, I'm looking for 2 or 3 good (between the 40s) tickets for the San Antonio regional next weekend. If you are willing the sell and can overnight the tickets to me (I'll pay for mailing them also), please email me ASAP at stevenmusumeche@yahoo.com. Thanks!
  9. I'm really sorry that I had to miss Teal. The ticket line was really ridiculously long.
  10. Hey Mike - great review! I agree with you about the Cadets show. It's performed REALLY WELL, but I just don't think the design can win a championship. By the way, the "smoke" from Magic's pit comes from pouring BABY POWDER on the bass drums and then beating the #### out of them. Never seen that before.
  11. I will write a few comments about each show, except for Teal Sound. I got to the show 45 minutes early but the ticket line was so long that I was late to the show. Southwind I don't remember too much about this show other than that it was a good effort. They're obviously working hard and having a tough summer. Troopers I like this show. Very classic in style and the crowd loved it. The brass had some intonation problems throughout the show. The drumline was pretty impressive. I really like the ending, which is a soft, patriotic ending of Taps. There is even a sling drum being used for effect. Capital Regiment Great show. They are performing very well and I was really impressed by the sound that they can put out. Drumline good. Blue Knights Awesome hornline. Very balanced with good tone quality. The show was a bit esoteric in places, but I liked it. I especially liked the references to Trittico throughout the show. There were literally 15-20 references if you listen closely enough. Seattle Cascades Nice show. As far as I know, they are neck and neck with BK, but I think the BK show has more room to grow so will probably win out in the end. Magic of Orlando The show design is really great. The pirate theme was a favorite of the audience. I was watching the show with a non drum corps friend, and this was his favorite show of the night. I thought that the design was great, but the performance is just really sloppy all around. The drumline was quite dirty, and the hornline had bad attacks and cutoffs. Bluecoats Great corps - definately in a different league than the previous corps. The pit was EXCELLENT - better than I remember them being over the last few years. The drumline is also really good. Taking a look at the percussion scores, they are tied for 3rd with SCV, and they really do deserve it. The brass sound was a little bright for my taste, but they can put out some sound. Crowd really enjoyed the show. Cavaliers Once again, the Cavaliers have a knockout show that is capable of winning DCI. There are just so many little things in this show that make it great. The hornline is very balanced and controlled. The pit is amazing. I loved the show. I felt that they would get 2nd place tonight due to the drill. It seemed slightly dirty to me, but I was only sitting about 20 rows up. Because of this dirt, I feel that their score has more room to grow than the Cadets, who were cleaner visually. Cadets Loudest corps of the night, but done in a balanced way that makes them sound so good. I really thought that they were going to win tonight on the basis of visual execution, but I was wrong. They are pretty #### clean already - drill, hornline, drumline and pit. The percussion section is really smoking. The show is designed well, but I think they Jethro Tull music doesn't work in some sections. I don't think that this is a championship show.
  12. I need a pair of tickets for Semis and Finals. I am looking for seats between the 40's and I am willing to pay for them. I would like sections 336,337, or 338. I could also go for the top of sections 122,123, or 124.
  13. I had the great opportunity to take a few days off of work and catch some drum corps - I attended the Houston, TX and both San Antonio, TX shows. I did not plan to attend finals in Orlando, but I decided this weekend that I will do whatever it takes to be there. I don't have an extreme amount of time, so I will have to make this fairly brief. Rice Stadium is a good venue. The stadium is huge, and there was plenty of parking. Unfortunately, the traffic in Houston really sucks, but that's to be expected. Whatever marketing guru decided to have "DCI Southwestern Championships" in the AlamoDome needs to be given a huge raise. The whole concept of these weekly "showdowns" is pure genius. The corps go head to head, the audience gets to see everyone, AND enjoy it in the air conditioned dome. I was in the upper deck, but I had no problem hearing anything. In fact, the pits seem to be slightly amplified compared to the night before. Kudos to DCI for putting on this show - I plan to attend every year. General comments on the corps - I will not include everyone, just a few comments here and there about things that stood out to me. Let me preclude this by saying that I was VERY impressed with nearly every corps I saw. I do not ever remember 16-17th place corps being this good. Spirit I really thought that they would have been in the evening show. In fact, I had them placing 3rd in the morning show. As a Crown vet, it was hard for me to put them over Crown, but I really felt that they deserved it. Crown They're back! Great hornline sound, and very entertaining show. I'm glad to see that the arteestes have been shown the door. The drumline/pit and colorguard were both on fire. Now that I think about it, the guard was amazing. Seattle I just don't think that they will make finals. Phantom Holy sh|t, they are LOUD! What a hornline! I am really hoping that Phantom can catch up and win it all, but I don't know if their show design will allow them to do that. There is still time to change parts of the show, so who knows? Santa Clara Hard to get into. After seeing the show in Houston, I was like "huh?" I normally LOVE SCV shows, so I was surprised. But, I followed very closely in San Antonio, and I enjoyed the show a little more. I will probably enjoy the show more when I see them again. Madison Good show, and they are definately in for finals. Congrats for turning the organization around. Blue Knights Great show. I think they are being scored lower than they deserve. It's very dark, and sort of reminds me of BD 95. Cadets Very good show. Well executed, and entertaining. However, it only has a few "WOW" moments, and I don't think they will place higher than Phantom, BD, or Cavaliers. Blue Devils Excellent, but stale. Pretty much flawless drill forms, and of course a great hornline. However, this show seems sort of flat. Perhaps that will change. I think that they will beat the Cavaliers at some point, maybe even finals. The show is very clear. Cavaliers I love the show, but they have a huge task ahead of them. They have to top last year, and I feel that that will be nearly impossible. The drill is amazing, but not perfectly clean yet. Hornline sounds good, but there really is not much music. It seems to be mostly sound effects. The ending is very sudden, but they have a new ending in the works. They learned it Friday, but I'm not sure when they will add it. They could win the title, but BD and Phantom may give them a run for their money. It is by no means a sure thing, like it was last year. Hope you enjoyed my "mini" review!
  14. I need 2 or 3 tickets (either premium or super) for the San Antonio regional on July 19. I would need these to be right next to each other. Please let me know if you have any available, or if you know someone who does. Thanks.
  15. My preparation consisted of calling the Jambalaya Shoppe a week ago and telling them that I wanted an icechest full of Jambalaya and 10 links of Boudin. :-) About the guard.. there are new props.. the most noticable being columns. They don't really "do" much with them.. they're more of a background kind of thing. The uniforms are the same for the girls, and cream colored for the guys. I didn't notice them being very distracting, but I wasn't paying much attention to the guard. That's the percussionist in me :-) Anyway, I may be seeing a lot more of Crown soon, if you know what I mean.
  16. Hey, Clint and Alicia are my buds! They're doing great and having a blast a Spirit. I hung out with the pit from Spirit before the show and they're all very cool and loving the summer.
  17. The 1 hour rain delay really cooled things down. I was with Crown at their housing site all day, and d### was it hot outside! I kept getting questions like "How can you LIVE here??" Anyway, it made me remember just how hard everyone is working all summer. It's pretty d### amazing, really. Anyway, on to the review. Americanos I got to the stadium a little late, so I had to watch these guys from a low angle. I really like La Fiesta Mexicana, and they did a good job with it. It's not an easy piece of music. A few interval problems here and there, but very impressive for a Div. III corps. Troopers I've always liked the Troopers, and this year is no exception. The standout moment for me was their Ballad, "An American Elegy" by Frank Ticheli. This piece was written in memory of the victims of the Columbine High School shooting. The Troopers did a very good job with it. The drill was pretty neat, and they are performing it well. Spirit Wow. I can understand why this corps has been beating Crown, Madison, Colts, etc. lately. This hornline is amazing, as is the drumline. The opener sounds like comtemporary wind ensemble music, something that Spirit doesn't usually play. However, they performed it well and it came across nicely. The drill is very clean for this point in the summer, and I'm wondering if they are close to maxing out the show. Will their scores stabalize when there is less room for improvement? Only time will tell. I think they are a shoe-in for finals. Biggest crowd response of the night, with the exception of Cavaliers and Cadets. Madison After all the talk on the internet of Madison being horrible this year, I wasn't expecting much. However, they put on a very entertaining show. The crowd loved the Conquest opener and the Fleur de Lis. The hornline and drumline is pretty good, but the guard could use some serious work. The visual is average. I think they will have a hard time making finals. Crown The first impression that I had of this show is "dark." It starts off with backfield playing, then builds to a climax with the statement of Barber's "Medea" theme. This is definately the best Crown hornline ever. While not as loud as Spirit or Madison, the sound is VERY balanced, controlled, and round. The drumline, once again, is amazing. I didn't see ANY other lines that have the amount of difficult exposed parts as Crown. Though I may be biased, I have to say that the pit is incredible. Lots of notes, and very clean. I don't understand why this drumline is scoring where it is. Anyway, my overall impression of the show was that it is very "artistic." The crowd didn't seen to get into the show. Bluecoats I was expecting something really fun and grooving, but I didn't really get it. Sorry, but I could just not get into this show. The hornline, guard, and drumline are performing well. Glassmen Excellent flugelhorn soloist. Some very nice musical moments in this show. The crowd didn't get into this show either. The drumline and pit are amazing, and should be considered a top 3 percussion section. Cavaliers Just a wonderful experience overall. While not known for their great hornlines, this year's Cavaliers have a great sound. Lots of different sonorities that work well with the drill. I love innovative shows, and this one didn't let me down. The drill is excellent, with many nice effects. I wish they'd put in more high velocity stuff. Anyway, that rap/dance/jam thing they do is sweet, and my non-drum corps friend loved it. I was a bit dissapointed with the drum line and pit, because nothing really stood out. They are usually very good, but I heard lots of dirt. Cadets They sure know how to design a winning show. In my opinion, this show WILL WIN in Madison. It has all the elements: great hornline, drumline, guard, and __GE__. Lots of nice moments from the drumline, which has been deservedly winning drums lately. I don't know what else to say, except that I love the show and can't wait to see it again. After the show, I brought an icechest full of Jambalaya to the Crown food truck. It was very funny to watch people. First, they didn't know what it was. Then, they'd take a bite from someone else's plate to try it. Then, they'd get a HUGE plate full of it. The icechest must have had at least 20 pounds of the stuff, and it was all gone within 15 minutes. They also enjoyed the Boudin, though were disgusted when I told them the history behind the food. :-)
  18. I recieved an email from someone on PC's drum staff who told me that they are Div. I this year.
