  1. Cool. Thanks for the reply, and I apologize for the misunderstanding.
  2. Hey c'mon. I always thought that peoples' posts were THEIR opinions and not representative of their Corps affiliations. At least I HOPE that is what it is. While I am proud to be a member of the Pacific Alliance Drumline, and the Kingsmen Alumni Corps, my statements are from ME and should not be taken as anything other than that. My earlier comment was a question, but the reply felt like it was an attack. We all have our different opinions of the activity, (I'll post mine later), but in the end, it doesn't really matter. DCI will go the course it seems fit, regardless. I wish them all the best. However, I will be protective of my affiliations (as you all are). So please no personal attacks to them. As for me, well, I have thick skin.
  3. Just curious. Where did that info come from??
  4. Actually, the bigger problem would be, what would happen if people stopped caring???
  5. What if there was a HUGE difference between bands and drum corps? I used to love the idea that drum corps was way better than band. In my HS band (the '70's), I would hear, "you think you are better because you are in drum corps". My reply, "well, yeah". (Not being mean, just proving a point.) . Some band people hated us, while some joined us. I loved the persuit of perfection/excellence, hardass attitude (get out of our way), and the comradare of being something special - totally different.
  6. Bump. Hey, we need more low end and some cymbals!
  7. Hi everyone. The mighty Pacific Alliance Drumline is looking for new members. We have a full compliment of Snares, have 3 quints, but are in need of more Basses and Cymbals. Of course, if someone could play snare or tenors who is on fire, we would take a look also. We play old school parts, strive for excellence, but also have fun too. To see some video of us, please go to YouTube, and type in "Pacific Alliance Drumline". There, you can see our streetbeat and drumfeature. (Our drumfeature is taken mostly from Santa Clara's 1975 drum solo, "the clock".) If you are interested, have wicked chops, a hardass attitude, (but fun loving too), and want to be part of a great drumline, please visit the website, www.pacall.net. Our next practice is this Saturday, from 2 to 5 PM at Tyee High School, not far from SeaTac Airport, right off I-5, south of Seattle. ^0^ ^0^ B) ^0^ ^0^
  8. Well, here's who I voted for first; For your records, here are your selections: 1974 Santa Clara Vanguard 1974 Kingsmen 1975 Santa Clara Vanguard 1977 Bridgeman 1979 Santa Clara Vanguard 1986 Blue Devils 1987 Velvet Knights 2004 The Cavaliers Then a dose of reality. (I think they tallied these in Florida.) I voted for the only ones I liked....... (not a lot to choose from IMO); For your records, here are your selections: 1980 Bridgemen 1984 Garfield Cadets 1987 Santa Clara Vanguard 1989 Santa Clara Vanguard 2004 The Cavaliers 2004 Santa Clara Vanguard 2005 Phantom Regiment 2006 Phantom Regiment
  9. SCV hands down! They showed some world championship drumming, while the Cadets didn't play a solo and got a perfect drum score. (I know, there's no "exposure to error", but come on!!)
  10. I have to say, I agree with the omission of 27th. Awesome corps!
  11. Santa Clara Vanguard, and the Kingsmen. Especially in the early '70's where they were the epitome of class and precision. (And those superstar drumlines as well!!) The Vanguard through the years, and the Kingsmen with their Alumni Corps still uphold the standard. Ah, the days when you were driven to strive for excellence/perfection.
  12. I agree with saying the line sounds better when all are playing, but I have to disagree that a big snare sound is dirty. Yes, the note is bigger, longer, but it is a SNARE drum. As for our drums, yes they are 13 inchers, but they still pack a punch. A little brighter than the 14 inchers, but I think they are the best sounding drums around right now. Because of the mylar, and the snares. But thats IMO. I just think a snare should sound like a snare. When I saw finals one year, and saw a concert snare in the pit, I just shook my head in disbelief. The nice thing regarding this forum is that we can agree to disagree.
  13. John, I have to say that your, (27ths) off the line, (opener), for 1975 is totally cool. I get chills when I hear it. Awesome tune!!
  14. Sawry, I have know spelling scills somtimes.................
  15. PS, I love seeing this on the 1975 DCI Legacy DVD.
  16. And a cool thing regarding that show is, during the first drum solo, (Birds of Fire) there's a drum judge right in front of the snare line while they are playing a great one-handed passage (going from left to right), then followed by a great pattern with single single stroke 32nd notes. The judge dips his head, listens, then walks away. The line finishes, puts in their sticks motionless. Awesome, unflappable execution, and total class!!
  17. 74-75 Santa Clara, 79 Santa Clara (squeaky clean), 76-77 Etobikoke
  18. Kingsmen, 72 or 73 Santa Clara, 75 (but 74 was great too) Blue Devils, 86 Phantom Regiment, 05 Cadets, 04 Bridgemen, 77 Velvet Knights, 87 Cavies, 04
