  1. This thread will capture BrigsNews for 2010...and there will be news! We have many plans for summer programming this season: While we won't be fielding a competitive corps, we are planning a Brigadiers Summer Visual Ensemble that will show up at DCA summer field competitions and I&E's. They're actually practicing right now -- I mean, this morning -- right now!! This is a very serious guard with plans for the upcoming WGI season. We're also doing about eight planned Parades-- dressed in Old Time Brigadiers uniforms, by the way -- to keep the brand "out there." We're considering more parade offers but this is what is scheduled at the moment. We plan to continue our partnership with Onondaga Community College's WGI Percussion Line in the fall as well. They were remarkably successful for their first year of competition this past winter. This Weekend for example: Brigadiers Summer Visual Ensemble (Guard) May 15 10am - 4pm Brigadiers Parade/Mini Corps (Brass & Battery) May 16 1pm - 4pm Rehearsal site for both days is: Walberta Primary School 400 Walberta Road Syracuse, NY 13219  If you want to be in drum corps, in the Brigadiers, but are a bit busy for the full competitive corps route this summer, come and do our limited parade schedule. Or, perhaps you want to perform in a serious Color Guard rehearsing right now: Contact Mike at (315) 450-4545 or mbrooker59@yahoo.com for details. All are welcome! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  2. Go Brigs!!! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  3. Total agreement: I posted that post and realized that I didn't make the case strong enough about the whole show. The 1974 Hawthorne Muchachos is my favorite show of all time. If you can't practice at home some day, you can certainly get a workout in the car by playing your mouthpiece with that recording. Is that as bad as texting while driving?? 4. As soon as I read (maybe misread) the question, I thought that I'd be nothing if not consistent about the following statement about the best opener from a DCA corps, at least. I must admit, however, that I'm not one of those people who remembers every show even MY Corps has done even though I marched it! I remember moments of shows. Here it is: BEST OPENER IN MY MEMORY OF DCA: Syracuse Brigadiers, 2001, "Street Scene(s,)" from the movie, Seven Year Itch. I like to describe it as an opening statement, but in all reality it was a separate sheet of music, and it was rehearsed that way until summer when it was immediately followed by the next tune in 2001 (the name of which I can't remember, of course.) It was "Come Back to Me" - that second tune, I just looked it up. It was, "turn around and blast!" Once the drill stopped, we were all up front and at least for the Sopranos, the goal was to finish that whole last chord in one breath. I remember personally seeing Roland G. staggering to stay conscious after that chord in rehearsal a couple of times. It happened to all of us I imagine during that summer. I know it happened to me. Many of you can relate...it comes without warning and you just find yourself in it. Thank you, Wayne!! Yes, it's my corps, but hey!! BEST DCI OPENER IN MY LIMITED DRUM CORPS MEMORY: Hawthorne Muchachos, 1974, "Pictures of Spain." Yes, I said it! I must admit the DrumCorpsSacrilege that I liked the '74 show better than the '75. The breath control in that corps was nothing short of unbelievable! Their soloist was a freak of nature for someone that young. It had everything. I must admit my great fortune to having had the Muchachos be one of the corps at the first real drum corps show I ever saw. Somewhere in my house I have a cassette recording of that show made early in the season. Did I say that out loud? They sounded remarkably like the Finals recording, but slower. I believe the show was in Auburn, NY. My Corps Director took me to this show. You'd be amazed at all the corps that were there. Madison, Troopers, et al. I get out of breath just listening to what they had to play. At my best, I couldn't do it. Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  5. Guy Marnell was one of the drill instructors (it was called drill in the day) in my first drum corps experience, The Syracuse 76'ers. He and Phil were inseparable. He always stressed military bearing. He was one of the funniest men on the planet as well! He was one of those guys you look back on that made a real difference in one's life. He taught the virtues of hard work and loyalty. He would endlessly talk about the Brigadiers of the sixties and how the marching members "took care of" individuals who felt comfortable planning to miss a rehearsal...even for a sister's wedding! It's clearly different now. At the Memorial for Guy yesterday it was wonderful seeing Mrs. Cerimeli and one of the daughters holding court! The place was filling up with Brigadiers royalty when I left. It made you feel good because: Once a Brigadier, Always a Brigadier. Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  6. The weather will be great. And, it should be a great day for Drum Corps!!!! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  7. Mark! It's guys like you I'm talking about in the audience adding to the total experience of our show! You're like a Drum Corps (I almost always Capitalize that)(Again, Guilty of Over-Capitaliizing something, mostly in the middle of a sentence.)(Oh, shoot! Sorry!) ...encyclopedia! Great guy, loves competitive Drum Corps, in Syracuse as part of that Rock-'em- Sock-'em, stand-up, sit-down audience we're expecting. GO PAGEANT!!! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  8. The Brigadiers Organization is really pleased to have you join us at the Pageant. We're planning a great Drum Corps experience for a great crowd. If it goes like we think it will, I don't know whether I'd rather be on the field (which I will be,) or elbow-to-elbow with that crowd of Drum Corps fans watching it happen. As I've said before, if the audience "feels it" and "expresses it," we should see some really inspired performances on Saturday night from players like me who thrive on it. Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  9. Yes, the facility is made for Drum Corps. But the real joy is going to a packed stadium -- which we're expecting -- with a bunch of great fans all around you going nuts for the activity on the field. I know, right or wrong, my corps does better when the crowd loves what we're doing and shows it. Hey! After this many years, it's true for us and certainly for me. Can't help it. Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  10. Short News bits and discussion from THE RED TEAM. Take this NOTE about  THE BRIGADIERS' second competition of the season at Holland Stadium, Auburn, NY. Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  11. I think we did alright that year. Scott
  12. You know Drum Corps. It's definitely outdoors and as usual, we play in the rain if it's raining. Lightning, and they wave us off the field. So, yes, field exhibitions. It free. No judges. My guess is that each of the groups will hope to get some kinks out of their shows in front of a crowd. For us it's a community event during the Boxing Hall of Fame events in Canastota, NY this weekend. We appreciate Canastota for welcoming us into their community. Scott Mescon The RED TEAM 1993-
  13. Jimmy, thank you for your excellent playing at Bruce's funeral. It was a fine tribute. Thank you! Scott
  14. I'm pretty sure the Canastota thing is two weekends away...Don't quote me though. Wait a minute. Are you one of those guys who calls, "next weekend" the weekend around 11 days from now? If so, yes. s.
  15. You may rise. Really felt that this was the best Camp of the year! Lots of work from a great staff!! Members are feeling it. Being outside learning drill last weekend made me want to pop a great show in front of a great audience. After all, ENTERTAIN THE AUDIENCE! PERIOD! Isn't that what we all do? Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-

  22. Short News bits and discussion from THE RED TEAM. Take this NOTE about The BRIGADIERS' St. Patrick's Parade on Sat., March 14th: Performing in this weekend's ST. PATRICK'S PARADE in Downtown Syracuse, NY are the Battery and Brass Sections of The Brigadiers and the Brigadiers Alumni Corps. Be Downtown, and ready to rehearse at 10:30AM. The parade should be over no later than 3PM but probably earlier. We're playing, "Black Saddles." This is the funnest parade we do...definitely not to be missed for the experience. The staff plays with us. Excellent!! Wear several layers because this parade can be very cold. Very cold. In prior years valves have frozen, so plan accordingly. The following address will get you SOMEWHAT CLOSE TO the rehearsal parking lot using MapQuest or GPS. Keep your eyes open for the Red Brigadiers Hoodies and people with horns and drums near the end of your route. 128 North Warren Street Syracuse, NY 13202 Look for the corners of James Street and Warren Streets.
