  1. They got 10s in the top half of the sheet -- the "what are you doing" part. They didn't get 10s in the "how well are you doing it" part. The top half of the sheet for every caption is a "what are you doing" category, whether it's what work the guard is doing, what technique the hornline has been taught, what visual style is being utilized by the corps, or whatever. The only way in which execution is involved in the top half of the sheet is how well the corps communicates what that work/technique/style/etc. is supposed to be. A judge can get an idea of what a corps is trying to do even if the corps doesn't do it perfectly. How well they do it, however, is the province of the bottom half of the sheet. To repeat: the 10s the Cavies received in GE Visual and Visual Performance are not based primarily on their execution, but on what they're being asked to do. Design elements on the juding sheets? Egad! Gasp! Shock! It's been a part of judging at least since the inception of the build-up scoring method was adopted. It's nothing new. Ten is not perfection and it's not "off limits." I realize some of you see it that way, but it's not how the judges see it, and I don't see a practical reason to hold them accountable to your standards. If a corps can get a zero in a sub-subcaption (and it's happened this season), then another can certainly get a 100 in a sub-subcaption.
  2. That's what's so great about them. Equally as great is Terrance's teflon-like ability to ignore all protests thereof. Get back Spirit of Intelligible Language! Seriously, though, if his posts make you genuinely - I advise not clicking on any thread he starts, because they're all like this.
  3. Hey, Arizona isn't on the West Coast (yet). Very cool for the "West," though: just about every Div II/III corps to come out of the West this season -- Academy, SCVC, BDB, Impulse, and Oregon Crusaders -- made Finals. Not bad at all. And Impulse right next to Surf... must've been a fun afternoon, eh? Congrats to all Div II/III corps, who, as has been said numerous times, don't get enough recognition. I hope Academy stays in Div II for a few years more to draw more attention to the "unsung" divisions.
  4. Their 10s were in Visual GE Repetoire and Visual Perf Technique, not "Showmanship" or "Excellence" -- i.e., they got 10s in design, not execution.
  5. Personally, I think many would say it'd be "shady judging" if they jumped over three points from Semis to Finals to beat Phantom. Therefore, I feel the Cadets will finish fourth at best.
  6. Bah! You and your "science"! In the beginning there was nothing... then Tim Jackson roundhouse kicked that nothing in the face and said "Get a job." That is the story of the universe.
  7. No words... should have... sent a poet.... BTW, was Dan Feeney one of the drum majors?
  8. Tim Jackson on camera -- avert your eyes, lest ye be blinded.
  9. I wouldn't know anything about that, but that's awesome that you can fly.
  10. ...like kissing your sister. (That is, awesome.)
  11. How about Oregon Crusaders winning for bass line, huh? Pretty sweet. Go Div II. And go Amy Bennett on clarinet! Bells to the box!
  12. PhantomRegiment in 2nd if not haunted by score of 96! Get back Spirit of Score of 96!!!
  13. You didn't have to bother with actually taking a picture, y'know. Tim Jackson's image automatically appears on any photographic film within a ten foot radius.
  14. Hall of Fame is important. It's part of our history. Sponsors are important. It's where we get our money. I can wait.
  15. Yep, that was one for the lip readers. Also, is this the year of contra solos?
  16. This sounds dirty. In other news, wow, go Vanguard! Amazing.
  17. Tim Jackson and Matt Gregg once walked into a bar together. The bar was instantly destroyed by the sheer awesomeness of the presence of these two giants.
  18. No kidding. It's hard to believe they're back so far. They really left it all on the field tonight, though. Good for them.
  19. Hey, I took a drillwriting class taught by that guy. Excellent. Good to hear he's with Cap Reg now -- I really enjoyed their show this year.
  20. I love their version of Clapping Music. I'm all for anyone who can put Steve Reich on the field.
