  1. It just does not matter. It is the Week in Indy that counts.
  2. http://www.thonline.com/multimedia/?id=3147
  3. Grass roots. Grass roots. That all it is. The other corps have at advantage based on where they are located. Thee Colts--need your support. Better get out the word now and keep it going. I am not yelling I am just emphasizing the importance to get the vote out and get the organization who needs and deserves the vote. THE COLTS.
  4. I do not post much. I have been involved with the activity since the 70's I am amazed that they did not make finals last year considering 1) they performed for the first time in the Presdential inauguration parade and 2) their first camp was canceled due to inclimate weather which 3) the typing heads counted them out and finally 4) they were discounted as a lesser corps for those who beat them out to make the coveted top 12. They are from the smallest community to sponsor a Division I corps and supports the community at large. They should no longer be treated as a red-headed step child. PUT YOUR VOTE IN FACEBOOK FOR THE ORGANIZATION THAT DESERVES THE MONEY AND WILL PUT IT TO GOOD USE. THE LEGION AIRES, THE COLTS
  5. Two things: 1. I can't see this happening. Or 2. I can't wait to see this.
  6. First: For those who clamor and feel that this message will be closed--chill--this is a legitimate post. The sensors would be wise to keep it open. Second: I agree that we all should not jump to conclusions. But with the limited information we have and how this matter was resolved there are questions that have to be asked. (Please do not attack, but some things I say may not be politically correct) 1. This incident occurred between 3:30 and before 4:00 p.m. on a school day on October 30, 2008. 2. According to the school website as of this year the last period ends just before 2:00 p.m. (I am assuming the same schedule was similar for last year). 3. According to Mapquest--the distance from the high school to the park the incident occurred is just a few minutes over an hour drive. 4. What is a band director doing in a park an hour away during the fall marching season? 5. If you look at the third poster who provided a link to the arrest there is a sub link to the arrest report. The arrest report details what occurred. As one poster mentioned that it is possible that Nelson was urinating. This is debunked by the report. 6. Why was vice at the park--based on reports it was due to complaints by the public. 7. One poster who mentioned that Nelson was "parading around like a peacock" after a particular WGI event makes one wonder as to his preferences. 8. The police report and the article mention that the UC (Undercover Cop) and Nelson engaged in a discussion before the vents took place. I surmise that the complaints were of a nature that homosexual activity was taking place in the park and to curtail it folks spoke up, a UC operation was implemented, and Nelson got stung. 9. I was perplexed by a comment made by the Principal at Choctawatchee High in the article in which she stated that Nelson was a part of the band program, but Chad Hannah, the Asst. band director, was a "big" part of the program. (Is this downplaying Nelson's accomplishments or is it something that we need to read between the lines.) 10. Nelson pled "Nolo Contendre" No Contest. He does not contest the facts. This would mean that the facts are true. It is my impression that he and the UC engaged in some discussion about an anticipated sexual liaison and Nelson did something to move the events to fruition until he was busted. 11. As a parent I recently dealt with a situation in which a person was taking pictures of members of my adolescent soccer team. (Taking pictures is not a crime-but no one knew the guy). A further investigation into who this man was revealed that this person was a registered sex offender. For those who question the Colts in hiring this gent they have a legitimate concern. 12. Colts--Greg Orwoll, in particular, you need to do a full scale investigation (Not a cursory review) as to whether you want this person on your team. If the school(s) he has taught at, the corps' he has been employed, have nothing negative about him and this was something he did on his own to fulfill his desires WITH ANOTHER ADULT MALE then you should have nothing to fear. (Remember--you have that pending law suit with the kid's parents who are suing the corps for harboring a runaway. This re could really put the CORPS into dire straights.)
  7. From my perspective . . . With the pre pre season hype to get folks interested in marching with a particular corps for 2010 certain corps are portraying a "la familia" image. Does it not appear that these corps are emulating a corps that everyone takes for granted? This corps is, has, and always will be "the corps." This "corps" truly fosters a belief, philosophy, tradition, that "team" is not spelled with an "I", producing tomorrow's leaders for the betterment of their community, their region, their nation. I speak of a corps whose alumni are today's leaders of their local, regional, national communities. Can you guess the corps?
  8. ??? I need to see the drill. The music to me does nothing . . . after seeing Parts 1,2 and 5 on YouTube.
  9. So---what's the word??? Anyone attend the debut? Bueller? Bueller?
  10. If you are in the medicine, the law, philosophy, religion, politics, what have you and are interested in a great life story . . . This book is not only well written. BUT IT IS A MUST READ There were times that I laughed, got aggravated, was surprised, was enlightened, . . . but most of all . . . It is a story of one man, his remarkable wife, Gayle, and unpretentious son, who has maintained an even greater wit which has been polished since I marched with him. I must reiterate. It is a must read. I have always respected Bill Cook. Never met him, but knew him through "surrogates." After over 20 plus years since I have aged out I respect him even more (though how he waited minutes until his son aged out to grab and relentlessly abscond with the spark plug of a "Mom and Pop" drum corps by flashing his bucks, I nevertheless, respect what he sought out to do (even though the book does not really elaborate on this point.) HE is a FRIEND of drum corps. Period. Having, and continuing to, raise a family and have reached that period in life I see where he has come from and why he did what he did when he ventured into an active role in drum corps and how we (shamefully) did literally push him and Mason from Drum Corp, though they had even bigger dreams, [which may have been stalled for a while had we not ridiculed what Star had attempted and did accomplish.] Should he be a man that is emulated? Should others do what he has done to catapult drum corps to another dimension? That is not for me to answer--but by reading the book it will capture you from book end to book end. After reading it it will make you think what you can do . . for yourself, your family, your communty . . the world. Michael, thanks for giving me the heads up on this treasure.
  11. Mike: Is there any significant mention of his son Carl, and his involvement with the Colts, as well as Bill's?
  12. Lance: What would motivate Mr. Bill Cook? Two folks. Jim Mason and his son Carl. Both drum corps alums who might have that spark to push him to get back in the game.
  13. Which corps out there who do you think will surprise the masses come the beginning of the year? I was thinking Cavies because they had an off year this year, then the Bluecoats who were hype last year (and no doubts why--they were fantastic) who could come down this year due to (high) expectations last year, and the Colts who appear to be building on a strong foundation . . . . I suspect Pacific Crest? What say you?
