  1. I didn't claim to know everything. I said in my opinion.
  2. Exactly, The Bluecoats are not in the same league as The Cadets. It's ridiculous.
  3. I don't appreciate the personal attack. I still firmly believe that The Cadets are being scored lower because of the controversial show. Earlier this week the Cadets were less than 2 points from the Cavaliers. Now they are over 4 behind? Come on. I highly doubt the Cavaliers improved that much and/or The Cadets declined that much. There is definite slotting going on to make sure The Cadets cannot win or challenge fo the top.
  4. I love this show as well. In the opinion of a third year music education major, Cavaliers, Cadets, and Phantom should be the top three corps, in that order. The DCI judging for The Cadets has been questionable. There is definitely an agenda.
  5. I'm really annoyed with the spreads between the corps. It doesn't seem very accurate in comparison with the shows this week that were leading to this event.
  6. Your mom does not represent the opinions of all "casual" drum corps fans. Two of my friends from IU went to the Indy show and it was their first drum corps experience. They thought The Cadets show was wonderful.
  7. I just joined the other day and I'm already starting to get annoyed with the stupid bickering on this forum. Anyway, one poster noted that The Cadets were not emotional, powerful, and awe-inspiring. This show is no Phantom 1996, but it still focuses on valid human emotions and experiences. However, I understand that it is your preference.
  8. Everyone sitting next to me was not confused. I think that's one of the cool things about the show. If you aren't familiar with the show you can learn more about it and expand your knowledge. But that's just my opinion. I like things that spark my curiosity. For instance, I was not familiar with the story of Faust. After I saw Phantom's show it motivated me to learn more about it.
  9. I like how she is technically speaking to Alice and the others, but at the same time she is welcoming the audience to the tea party. (I am aware some of you prefer not to be there not matter how much she welcomes you...)
  10. 1. The Cadets 2. Blue Devils 3. The Cavaliers 4. Phantom Regiment 5. Bluecoats 6. Carolina Crown 7. Santa Clara Vanguard 8. Boston Crusaders 9. Blue Knights 10. Glassmen 11. Madison Scouts 12. Colts
  11. I still don't see how voice distracts you from seeing a visual feature. I can understand how it might distract you from the brass, but not the colorguard.
  12. I'm going to have to disagree. If you will, recall last year's Cadet's ballad. The obvious featured element during it was the chess match done by the color guard and percussion. Well, this year is similar. The obvious featured element is the guard work on the benches. There are no visual distractions. The corps is marching slow-paced drill that does not conflict with the guard work. I fail to see how it is a design flaw. The bottom line is that it is music being performed. I highly doubt that hearing a voice singing throws your sense of sight out of whack so that you cannot appreciate the obvious featured visual element. Give me a break.
  13. With all respect, I didn't find the vocals distracting at all, visually(watching the vocalist) or musically. In fact my attention was drawn to the guard work throughout the piece, watching Alice walk across the benches, etc. I have no idea how this "controversial" element will affect the scoring of The Cadets. All I know is that it was a very beautiful drum corps moment.
  14. The guy next to me in Indianapolis was smiling the entire show out of amazement and appreciation. He gave them a standing ovation and couln't stop talking about The Cadets and how cool they were to his friends for the rest of the evening.
  15. Yes. I think this was a very cool idea to tie the two shows together.
  16. The vocal lines are very melodic. As with any melody, there are parts that fit within the chord progression, but if you listen carefully there are plenty of non-chord tones and nuances. Additionally, there is a definite flow and direction to the vocal line. I think what throws people off is that it sounds very spiritual and improvisatory. That does not mean the content is not melodic.
  17. Hello everyone. This is my first post here at dcp. Anyway, to stay on topic, I saw The Cadets in Indianapolis. I really loved the ballad. One of the more beautiful things about it was how Alice was led across the benches by the other characters. The choreography and her encountering artifacts from last year's show just fit so well with the music. I had chills running up and down my spine the entire time. Another part I enjoyed was the tea party section. I can see how many are turned off by this section as there is somewhat of a visual/audio overload. However, this section really seemed to excite my senses and attention. My eyes were darting around trying to take it all in while enjoying the drumline's performance. It left me wanting more; to watch it again. I love that feeling where there are more stones to be turned over. I can't wait to see it again so I can discover something else in this section. I suppose that's just the type of person I am. Sometimes I'll read a book a second time just to take in all the details and to analyze the author's style, intent, etc.
