  1. I loved all three! By the way - I was in San Antonio over the holidays - My nephew attends Ronald Reagan High - took me over there and I saw the Crossmen equipment truck - my mouth is already watering to see them this year! They live about 5 blocks from the school and my sister said thay sounded so good from their house during camp that they walked over and watched them practice - and she's never seen a drum corps before.
  2. My college days started way back in 1982 but being from Albuquerque NM my in state choices were limited. UNM had a decent music program but an extremely LAME traditional marching program. NMSU had a decent music program but a FANTASTIC corps-style marching band - and an even more killer drumline with Scott Cameron (SkyRyders) running percussion. I went to NMSU and never regretted it for a second.
  3. Well, I contacted them a while back about refinishing an old Ludwig Challenger I have and they told me about the change. The same people are doing the work so the end result should be just as great.
  4. Correct! They are the best - except that they are no longer JIWI drums. They were bought out by Drum Foundry but will continue to do custom drumlines - they have a contract with Yamaha.
  5. Yep! For both Brass and Percussion. Hands down.
  6. Did no one else notice Madison's custom Yamaha's this year? Beautiful black to silver fade with chrome hardware. Awesome!

  8. Don't know for sure but these guys have a wide selection. http://www.drumgearonline.com/strainers2.html
  9. I think I may have found something - here's a link: http://www.music123.com/Pearl-14-inch-12-H...ps-i37267.music
  10. Yep, Looks like exactly the same model. Those are exactly the hoops I'm looking for too. Did you strip that one down, or was it like that originally?
  11. Well, Maybe I'll just stick with what I have. Both rims are in perfect condition and I don't plan to crank the heck out of it so maybe I'm good. does your '87 drum look like this one?
  12. Good morning! Does anyone know where I can get ahold of a pair of Pearl superhoops? I think that's the name for their die-cast rims. I bought an old Pearl marching snare off ebay and am looking to put cast rims on it. I don't care if they are used or new, I just want to know where to look. Need 14" batter and snare side - 12 lug. Thanks!
  13. Jerry Noonan - 1979 North Star - I dare you to find someone better. There may have been a FEW as good - but NONE better!
  14. There's nothing wrong with the rims. I believe it originally had a cast rim. You should have seen the rims when I got it. Someone had wrapped black tape around the rims - I guess to create some kind of visual effect but when I peeled it off it left tons of sticky junk. I had to soak the rims with WD40 and take a toothbrush to them. After a little elbow grease they came out looking brand new.
  15. I had so much fun restoring my Ludwig challenger that I decided to try another. I bought an old Pearl marching snare off EBAY for $70.00 total. I asked around on the Pearl forum and found that it is a Criterion model snare. I was also told that it has a custom finish because it was only available in white, chrome, and red? Anyway, the drum is in extremely good condition and I'm pondering not doing anything at all but putting the correct top rim and heads on it. Please take a quick look and tell me what you think. Also - If anyone has an idea what drumline may have originally marched with this drum? The pictures are OK but up close it is a really bright orange. I got it from a seller in PA. Thanks!
  16. Well I might need a flameproof suit after this but isn't nice to see a guard actually MARCH?
  17. Sorry Buddy but I just have to disagree. Only MY OPINION but I found it to be just annoying. And more than a little bit silly. Thanks.
