  1. Absolutely....They have ben inconsistent at times. This bothers me as well. This season reminds me a lot of 2001. Many of the variables are the same. They were still putting drill out just before finals. The kids just popped one out. It all of the sudden clicked. I believe that it will happen the same this year...? I also agree on Cadets show. The music has some amazing selections and the show can stand by itself, but I don't see Hop pulling the plug on the narration completely. He will stand true to his convictions and if 2005 or 2006 are any indication of that, the narration will hold. Props to 2005 for innovation, but last year......not good.
  2. Nick, A bit off topic, but I noticed that you marched with Cadets 2005. That ballad still haunts me to this day.....so beautiful! I remember after the Cavaliers finished, we left to huddle up afterwards and I remember hearing that outside of Gillette Stadium. I knew it then. Great show that year. It took me a little time to accept it, but I eventually succumbed. However, not with last year's show. However, the segue between the drum feature and the ballad was very cool until she started singing. Not a jab, just personal preference.
  3. "I mentioned this very topic in a review I replied to earlier today. I've noticed this for several years now wrt the Cavies and have oftentimes wondered why other corps aren't trying to incorporated the razzle dazzle - horns at standstill type moves. What I said in the other thread was that a perfect balance must be met to achieve the win. When they have it no one can touch them. This year seems to me to be off balance just a bit and that may be why they have not pulled away from the pact." Sorry I that I have to present previous quotes this way, but it does not seem to be working for me today. Anyway, in response to the above quote, they are not that off balance. Remember the following information: They have 73 new members this year, a new caption head in the visual department and the show is incredibly hard. It is in my non-biased belief that when they add their ending in, which will be introduced in San Antonio (four days of practice days before that show and insider info.), they should have a better chance of pulling ahead of the pack. They are standing toe to toe with Blue Devils and Cadets right now and they don't even have a fake ending to their show. And, as you know, they have beaten both corps already.
  4. Hey man, I absoulutely agree but, that post was not directed at those who do make positive, constructive criticism such as yourself. I have read your posts and feedback and do not have a problem with them. This comment was for those who cannot look at a show intelligently and provide feedback that might help the instructors who surf dcp. It was for those who constantly bring up for example, the Cadets, and continue to bash them. By the way, how come most people do not provide postive constructive criticism for corps who are not in the top seven being discussed on a regular basis? I know that some have, but most don't.
  5. <**> So that this thread gets back to the real reason it was posted, here is what I think. Yes, I was at the Michigan City show. But, before I give my review.....For all of you who like to rip at the hearts of those kids who work everyday for the entire summer plus pretour with your negativity and destructive comments about theirs or anyone elses show, please feel free to continue to watch for developing news about Paris Hilton or read the National Enquirer, because that it was you are good for. The rest of us mature folk will continue to support the activity for what it is. My review of the show is this: Every last drum corps show for the night was excellent, including the Classic Cavaliers Not one negative comment about the show, b**bs because they work hard everyday in the hot sun for 13 hours on rehearsal days and 7 or 8 on performance days, sleep on the bus between cities and then maybe a couple of hours of floor time before doing it all again the next day and then the next day throughout the summer, eat cook truck food, :sshh: leave their families, girlfriends, boyfriends, dogs, cats fish, their car, cell phones, TV, etc., etc., etc....... without any monetary compenstation. And, I just thank God that we still have Drum Corps!!!!! There should never be any negative comments on this website. You should all be standing up and applauding for these kids and their staff, volunteers and instructors. Simply, if you don't like the show, say, "I don't like the show". Don't pound it into the ground.
  6. They are the "lyrics" to the music. They are a part of the visual score and they are a part of the visual when looking at GE.
  7. I know that this has been answered already, but I thought that I would add my two cents. I have been with the Cavaliers all summer. I am on break presently running my own band camps. The ending is the same at this as it was in the third week of June. There has been a lot of cleaning and music fixes. There might be something soon. I won't reveal anything. They do have three full days of rehearsal before Cookeville, plus the day of the show. Will the Devils have a new ending? I'm sure that they will put something new in. It is a given. I love drum corps One fact that some of you know and maybe some of you don't know. We worry more about the scores and captions then the kids do. After 20 some-odd shows this summer, my observation is that the kids don't really care about the score. They have other factors that drive them, like doing their personal best, having a good individual show, not recovering most of the show, and of course, the experience of drum corps in general, just to name a few.
  8. Triple Trey Quote: ####, at this rate the Cavaliers will have a perfect GE score by finals. In fact, we might need to expand the GE score beyond 40 to compensate for how amazing the Cavaliers are at GE. ####, let's just make GE scores equal to 100 and forget the other captions (who need brass, percussion, and colorguard?). That way when Jeff Fiedler wants to have 8 monkeys masturbate onto coconuts on the 50 yard line, every dumb#### from here to Madison, WI can comment on how "amazing" and "innovative" it is, and they can win DCI by 189 points. I mean, ##########ER, the "robot" went out of style 10 years ago. No wonder we're all known as band nerds (and consequently none of you get laid). I wanted to reply to the original message, but it looks as though it has been removed. Man, Triple Trey, you have got to be kidding. First of all, your implying of bad language when referring to the Cavliers deserves a :ramd: So what if the Cavaliers are doing well with GE. So are the Blue Devils and Phantom. Both scored 37.0 last night in San Antonio. How dare you come down on a corps and its director like this. The Cavaliers are innovative and their hard work is ridiculed by someone like you who has nothing better to do with his time then whine about GE. Do you understand want General Effect means? The very caption includes Visual and Music. In other words...How well do the musical elements and visuals bring across the concept. In the case of the Cavaliers...how well does the visual scheme and music bring across the concept of a machine? Have you even seen the show? Why do you need to come down on Jeff Fiedler? <**> Is it because that is the only name you know? If you ever spent 10 minutes with this guy, you would understand that he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Do you know anyone on the design staff for the Cavaliers? Can you mention one name or tell me their position with the design team? Why have you not said anything negative about them? Because you can't. They, like Jeff, are all professionals at this. Some of them have probably been doing this longer than you have been alive. This is why you sit at home whining about GE and they are winning the San Antonio show after being down by almost two points from the Blue Devils, who also have an excellent show. Last, don't talk about the peeps who wait all year to go see a competition the way you referred to them in your post <**> Don't insult their intelligence. For without them, there would not be future generations of kids or fans involved in drum corps. Basically, you are the ^0^ and I hope that you get banned from ever posting again. They are not mindless idiots. But I do get the impression that you are. In fact a lot of fans are former members, band directors, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas and those who we, drum corps fans, have told that they need to see what it is all about. Also, I am not a band nerd. I am a Musician. I have a Masters Degree in Wind Conducting and I teach. I also marched with the Phantom Regiment 1980-1981. Who did you march with? Anyone who reads this does not have to agree. This is just my opinion.
