  1. Not sure if your question is meant to limit the response to just ONE Show... If so, 1972 NY Skyliners If not, I'll limit my answer to 4: The above, + 1965 Chicago Royalaires, 1974 Santa Clara Vanguard, 1966 NY Skyliners The reason(s)... Those were the Shows I had the most FUN watching, and listening to. I'll even take my fantasy a step further....'66 SKY, French Horn...'65 Royalaires, bari...'72 SKY, mello...'74 Vanguard, bari Thanks for the question (and the reminder to listen to '95 Scouts, again... Awesome Show!) Bill Moore B)
  2. Paul, I think we might have met. I played contra with Legends, last Season (I was one of the original baris, back when Jim Wedge and Rick Connor had the brass line. I brought SAC's "National Emblem" up to Malden, and taught it to the horn line, then.). If I've got the right guy, you were on 3rd bari with Legends last year(?). If not, I apologize, and look forward to meeting you on Thurs., if I can get it together to make the trip, or in Nutley, NJ, for SAC's Show. I'll be with SKY, SAC and Music Express at that one. Give my best to Buzzy, Larry, Jerry, Dave, Eddie, Kenny, and the rest of my Bahston Buddies, if I don't see you till then, please. Regards, Bill B)
  3. Jim, Thank You. It was a thrill to sit in with the Corps... Everyone was so welcoming and considerate. You are doing a wonderful job conducting, and the brass and perc Staff are very impressive in their musical and people skills! Can't wait to see/hear the Corps in Harrisburg! I'll be there with Music Express. Give my best to John (the barabarian surfer) Bermudez, and Rob (chrome lips) Hunter, please. Thanks, also, for the invite. I will definitely stop down the next chance I get. Good Luck, Bill B)
  4. I forgot my Dad's two drum corps!!! St. Stephen's, Passaic.... St. George's, Paterson (St. George's was the Corps many of Hawthorne's initial members got their starts, of course.) Bill Moore B)
  5. This IS fun! Couple more, just from Jersey: St. Joe's Newark........... St. Rose of Lima, Newark..........St. Ann's, Fair Lawn........St. Mary's, Nutley............ St. Vincent's, Madison......... St. Nick's, Egg Harbor Township........St. Brendan's, Clifton..........St. Martin's, Newark...........St. Joe's, Haddonfield(?).........Our Lady of Lourdes, Paterson Bill Moore B)
  6. Good luck with the search. I'm really looking forward to hearing the sound. I've been thinking about using a euph for bari 1 with Music Express. I can use the Wick 4AL hvywt. from my concert euph... SKY Alumni is fielding a euph section this Season, but they are playing a mix of bari 3 (with the bari 3 section), old "bassbaritone" parts, from/on the '60s charts, and splitting some of the bass parts, with the contra section. We have 4 euphs, 5 bari 3 and 10 contras, so the Bottom is being served well! Thanks again, Bill Moore B)
  7. Great List! Can't help but add one of my all time favorites... '61 CABs' "Siboney", "Cuban Pete", "Flamenco Cha Cha"!!! Bill Moore B)
  8. Very intriguing, and quite an investment. I take it the Corps owns the horns(?). It'd be interesting to know what mouthpieces are being used on them, or on the lower parts, for that matter. It is possible, of course to darken the timbre of the baris, by using rather deep cups, and "open" backbores, but the small leadpipes allow only so much in that area, as far as stock mpcs. are concerned. SKY bari line in early '70s featured euphs thru the entire line. They were massive G/F, V/Rs from the Great North. The Alumni Corps used them when we first started. Trouble with those things is they had small leadpipes, so some guys were playing them with very shallow and narrow mpcs. Anyways, can't wait to hear Bridgemen on Stage and Field this Season. As a fan, I'd like to offer many thanks to all the folks who travel so far, and have worked so hard to bring the Corps back to us! Have FUN!!! Bill Moore B)
  9. Thanks for opening the topic. Lots of great memories from the responses so far... I'll add some from 2 favorite Seasons: '64 Seniors: SKY-- Allies on the March, Miserlou HURCs-- Heatwave, Bill Bailey BUCs-- Mutiny on the Bounty, El Cid, Beyond the Sea SUN-- the Whole Show! '65 Juniors: Kevin's-- All the Things You Are, This Nearly Was Mine Garfield-- Maria SAC-- What's New/Laura Royalaires-- the Whole Show! Hope my memory serves correctly on which years... but the '60s were all phenom times for D&B!!! Bill Moore B)
  10. Sounds Great, Bill! Best of luck to all with Light Brigade! Hope to see Dave, Kevin, John, Cathy, Buzzy, Eddie, Jerry, Tommy, & the whole Classy Clan in Wildwood! Bill Moore B) SKY/SAC/Music Express/Legends/Brassmen/Lucy's, etc.
  11. Jim, My info is that Music Express will not be in Bridgeport. Bill Moore B)
  12. A Dear and Gentle Soul. RIP, Sean, and Peace to the Holton Family, the Skyliner Family, and Sean's extended Family of D&B Corps Friends... Bill Moore
  13. Middle School on Franklin Ave, across from HS (and one block from BSGK new home, Nutley ELKs), site of my first ever D&B win.. indoor Show hosted by Nutley Cadets. Paterson Lamplighters swept all categories (I know, "WHO?!", LOL!)... big deal, but it WAS, to us kids off the Paterson streets. Gonna be a great Show! Bill Moore B)
  14. 1969... San Angelo, TX... Best thing I can say about the pizza in that town is that they had taps in the wall, so you could fill up yer mugs with regular or dark.... deeeelish! Waddya expect from a town that posts signs reading, "No pecan thrashing!"??! Hope to stop by for a slice on Sat., sit in, and shake hands with my hero, Jimmy! Go SKY!!! Bill B)
  15. Beautiful Job, Joe! Thanks for all the hard work. See you in the Spring, Bill Moore B)
  16. Jimmy.... that's 3 "worships" for the photo, and 3 more for you! You are my Hero! Bill Moore
  17. Thanks for the "heads up", Joe! Better put this one on the calendar, as it seems I will be performing with at least 3 of those groups... Cya in Cinnaminson, Bill Moore B)
  18. Nice photo!... Phyllis, Guiditto, and the ever pubescent Pusey, down at the Monterey! Tried making out the other two with a magnifying glass, but I just got pixelated... "Happy Birthday", Guido, and, oh yeah.... "Rules, Schmules".... William Pusey Bill Moore B)
  19. Yeah, Doreen... The Dude wants 70 in Joisey, in January?! I was in SF on July 4th couple of years back, and it was maybe 55!!! Locals knew I was from outta town 'cause I wasn't wearin' a ski parka! LOL!!! Ya know what Mark Twain said, right?... "Coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!" Go SKY! Bill Moore B)
  20. I read thru this entire thread, and agree with the evealuations of the Olds, Smith, King and Getzen horns. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't notice any mention of the fact that the Getzen horn you are anticipating may be a G/D bugle, rather than a G/F. It's been 40 yrs. or so since I played one of those, but I think I remember Getzen "Baby" contras with a V/R setup, in G and valve change to D. If you are not familiar with those horns, and you do indeed get a horn with a D tubing from the valve, you need to be prepared for the fact that the fingering will be different, as will the availablility of (certain) notes. Bill Moore B)
  21. Hey, come on down, and shake hands with 10 or 12 Hall of Famers. Bring a contra bass, and I personally guarantee you will drink for free!! Charlie Welch will be in the House, along with James D'Amico and some manic Bumblebee he brings with him, and the 3 Rabbis, including the Chief Rebbe hisself, Johnny Grass (all with sincere respect and regard for our Orthodox Community!). Elks on Parade, of course, and, in general, the most welcoming and down to earth bunch anywheres! Hey, it couldn' hoit! Bill Moore (I know the "score") B)
  22. Hmmmm, Party, then Rehearse... Not a bad suggestion... that way the latecomers get to Practice (serve them right, eh?) LOL! Hey, stop by if you can. We can certainly use some "VOReason"! Bill Moore SKY Alumni Brass B)
  23. I'll be there with my wife, Mary. Will be marching contra with BSGK. Staying @ the Plymouth Sands. Have a safe trip, and I hope to meet you there (wherever the party is, we will be, will be!!). Bill Moore SKY Alumni Brass B) SAC, Legends, Blackhawks, Lamplighters, Music Express, etc., etc.....
  24. Gershwin is very well represented by HY for SKY, over the years. How about doing music from just one of Georgieboy's master works? "American in Paris" "Concerto in F" "Porgy & Bess", etc. I know Hy did downsized versions of much of this, but an entire Show... brass, perc, guard, Production devoted to ONE Gershwin Enterprise could sound and look NEW, and still be recognizable as SKY. Bucky Swan has SKY Chorus doing an all-Gershwin revue (He says it writes itself.). Seems timely, appropriate, and might give the Staff an opportunity to make its OWN contribution, while keeping to SKY tradition, while not risking a "re-hashing" of a HY Classic. Maybe you can't "go HOME", but there's much to be said, perhaps, for revisiting the old "NEIGHBORHOOD"... "New York, New YORK!" Bill Moore/SKY Alumni brass
