  1. Thanks for the clarification Randy. I talked to Scott last week and he says the planning is going well. 150 would be great and with that many, we would sufficiently blow the faces off those in the crowd! I don't know if you remember, but back in 91, I helped you set up for Bingo (when it was at the Labor Temple). We were taking tickets at the door and one of the clientel was being quite beligerant and complaining about the game and how she felt there was a better one down in Beloit...I believe your exact words were "start yer ####### engine sweetheart!" I still laugh at that one. The look on her face was priceless.
  2. The plan, from what I hear, is to do the full uniform from the early 80s and a full show complete with drill (although it will probably be simple drill) From what I hear, some of the music considered will be Ballet in Brass for the opener, Macarthur's Park or God Bless the Child, Malaguena, and Ice Castles or The Way We Were as a closer...but nothing is official yet. I was just given a Deg Baritone from a guy over on the Blue Devils discussion group, so I'm getting my chops (and the rest of my body) ready! I talked to one of the organizers and he said the goal is to march 80-90 brass!!! http://www.fastlanecpu.com/reunion

  4. My vote would be: Madison Denver Foxboro Somewhere in California And then every 5th year, we could go to Hawaii! b**bs
  5. Thanks guys for the advice. I checked e-bay and I also recieved an offer for a 2-valve Deg from a friend who has one. It looks identical to the model I played when I was with Madison! So I will probably make an offer on that one. Thanks!
  6. Does anyone know where I can buy a nice used or new G baritone? I've got an upcoming performance several months down the road (in front of 25,000 + people ;) ) and I need a competent instrument.
  7. Oh, and another point. :) To those who have been saying that Crown is trying to emulate or immitate Star, remember that one of the greatest artists - Picasso - when questioned about his success and inspiration, simply replied: "I steal". He took ideas from other artists and made them his own. There's nothing wrong with immitation.
  8. No problem. I admire the philosophy and style of leadership. Oh, and of coarse the product on the field...especially the 90-93 shows. (proof to me that G hornlines can sound as well blended as Bb)
  9. Holy crap Batman! Can you say prodigee?!
  10. Well, I have to admit that when I marched, I resented Star. But it was pretty much because of being blinded by competition... well that, and you guys stole Todd Ryan from us :P But after aging out in 90 and becoming a spectator, my admiration and respect grew for Star and Mr. Cook. Now, looking back, and reading his article entitled "So you want to start a Drum Corps?" I feel the activity needs more people like Bill Cook who have the vision for what they want and the will and the knowledge to go after it. As far as Crown being the new Star, I don't know, but they are creating a unique identity for themselves. By the way - here's the link to the afformentioned article by Mr. Cook: http://www.cookgroup.com/star/ (It's the third article down on the right side.)
  11. I think 2002 was the only year they didn't have one. And from what I remember, I think it was due to a break down. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) Anyway, we definately had a full fleet when I marched. But admitedly, what they had was in serious need of repair/replacement. What they have now is a huge improvement and well worth the financial resources!
  12. No problem. Just trying to clarify. And they don't say anything in the press release. But from an e-mail I got from Sal (Madison's director), I did not get the impression they are name chasing to get the better visual score. It's simply what happened in the organization and they are moving forward. I hope it works out. And I, like you, hope that the drill is not too SCV-esque, but something still mind-blowing and unique for Madison.
  13. Like I have said before, Madison didn't get rid of Pete Weber so they could hire the bigger name. Mr. Weber left the organization because of upcoming schedule conflicts in 2006. That forced Madison to have to look for a compitent replacement. Mr. Rosander happened to be available and like any smart organization, they took advantage of the good timing and hired him. Will his drill design be as good or better than Pete Weber's...that remains to be seen. :)
  14. Well, given the track record of the current administration for announcing programs, I wouldn't expect to know anything about the 2006 Scouts before late April. :) They tend to be stealthy about what they are planning.
  15. Well, I didn't exactly mean for 2006 Madison to do it. I just meant in general, it would be great to see a hornline that huge, playing some of the greatest hits in Drum Corps! B)
  16. Hang in there Troop. We're all pulling for you! See you in 07
  17. Horns and drums should be great. If they can improve their guard scores from last year and have a great visual package, they could be dangerous! The only thing better in my opinion would be a 90-100 member hornline in the key of G
  18. You're not raining on MY parade. And if everyone knew that, what exactly is the point of the thread. The original poster said they heard this rumor about the all-vet hornline and I was simply responding to it. :)
  19. 78 Scouts. "How deep is your love" and "Star Wars". Major cheese, but it worked at the time.
  20. Happy Birthday Michael. I miss "A bit of Boo" but I love reading your columns on DCI.org
  21. Ok, not to speak for the corps and not to rain on anyone's parade, but if you read a little further down the page on their forums, they state that although the staff was hyping the fact that they could potentially have an all-vet hornline, they are still conducting auditions the same as always. If you are a quality player, you have the potential to get a spot.
  22. Ok...I'm not feeding the trolls, but I have to say that it's a little presumptious to say that volume must equal lack of quality. Phantom's hornline was sublime...in power and in performance. Their blending was better than anyone else's...well, Cavaliers were right up there too. But what I really appreciated was that they (Phantom) brought a very traditional and powerful show to the field and didn't sacrifice the quality...and they were rewarded for it. I hope more corps follow their lead.
  23. I don't get the impression that they got rid of Pete to aquire Mr. Rosander.
