  3. As a staff member of the Manchester Muchachos, its not easy getting people to join the drum corps activity in any form around here.Obviously things have changed over the years, and a portion of the lack of interest is the advertisement or promoting of the activity. Its still costly to host a DIV II/Open Class show, and we've been doing that for several years now.We have a good turn out for crowds, but still its been many years since NH has really seen the drum corps activity in any full form. Its also not easy if you dont have many former marching members in your area to talk things up.Also its not easy getting into local schools to PR the corps.Things have definately changed. We up here in NH have been busting our butts over the past few years to change things and its working. We have the best instructional staff the corps has had in years w/experience from corps such as the Boston Crusaders,Spartans(NH),27th Lancers, just to name a few.A few names from the staff are Chris Dufault(Spartans,BAC,27th Lancers) & Joe Taylor(BAC & Spartans)....We have a good base structure and working environment. Its also costly to run things, and not everyone wants to perform in parades :) We are celebrating our 50th Anniversary this year(2010) and the corps continues to keep growing this year.Last year was a very good year for the corps and this year is even better from talent to music. We have former marching members from the Garfiled Cadets days,27th Lancers,SCV,Spartans,GSG,Fitchburg Kingsmen just to name a few.We have no intension of slowing done either.Anyone interested check out the website. www.muchachos.org It would be nice to keep the drum corps activity alive in the North East.

  10. The Muchachos Drum & Bugle Corps of Manchester NH had their most recent open house on Sunday 12/14/08.It was very successful,as they had inquiries in all performing area's of the corps. Some new faces and some old faces stopped in to visit, eat, and play w/the corps....It was a great day for the corps as people signed up and are hungry, and excited to start work on the Muchachos 2009 season. The corps had their first listen of some of their new music for 2009,and it was met w/excitement and energy from the corps. If you're looking to play, but have limited time, come check out the Muchachos, and see what they can do for you. The Muchachos organization wishes everyone a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year !!!!!!! Check out the website and drop us a line: www.muchachos.org 2009 Here we come !!!!!!!!!!
  11. Open House 12/14 for the Manchester Muchachos from 11am-3pm,with food..... If you havent marched in a while,or you recently aged out,or maybe just havent played an instrument in a while, then come by and say HI !!!!!...Meet some new folks, say HI to old friends,or hang out in the drum corps environment. If you feel like playing a little then you're welcome to do that too !!!!!!!...At least concider stopping by to tell your drum corps stories.... The Muchachos are happy to announce the return of Chris Dufault for the 2009 season as a part of the instructional staff.Chris Dufault has been involved in the drum corps community as a player and a teacher for over 30 yrs.Chris has been involved w/the 27th Lancers,Boston Crusaders,Fitchburg Kingsmen,Leicester Satellites, along with other local NE groups.....In 2006 Chris finished a 20 yr stint w/the Spartans of Nashua NH,and in that time helped the corps win several championships and a drum title.... With that being said, come by say Hi,have some food, and enjoy the atmosphere....The Open House will be held at the Boys & Girls Club in Manchester NH,the address is 555 Union st.The corps websight has more info: www.muchachos.org If you have little time or alot of time and want to play again,we can make it work for you..... The Muchachos are also looking to add to their instructional staff as well,so if that interests you then check it out !!!!!!!!
  12. I think more local corps would be great.A friend of mine used to tell me stories of when he was involved in drum corps through the 60's,70's in New England. He mentioned all the different corps that used to be around.I enjoy travling to a degree when I can to see shows, but I also used to enjoy alot of the local corps, local shows years ago.I wish there were stilla lot of local corps & shows....There are alot of options for kids now-a-days so I would guess getting kids involved w/creating local corps may be tough....
  13. I agree w/your edited section.I think one of the ways to get the crowds back to local shows would be to play or attempt more fan freindly/understandable music, that would help the crowd enjoy more, and I think attract people to want to join the more local corps....I think since the mid-90's the corps have been playing to the judges more than to the crowds, and there are alot of people that feel the same way......
  14. The Sun Devils didnt make it to finals in Rochester,I believe they ran out of funds...
  15. Another way to save drum corps and $$$$ would be to look back to the past. One of the biggest issue's people have with any competitive drum corps wether its a junior or senior corps is the fact of traveling to get to them and so forth.Just for example back in the 70's and 80's there were more local drum corps in local towns across the US.I think we as drum corps fans, participants,or whatever should look at helping rebuild the "drum corps" community as a whole.I would like to see many more local shows,so that corps dont have to travel as far on a regular basis, unless they want to compete at finals wherever they may be.This way we could create or revive more corps to compete and they could do it more locally and save money & save people from having to travel many miles if they couldnt, to be apart of a drum corps. This would give many kids/people the opportunity to be in a drum corps w/o out having to remortgage a home for fee's etc...or gas to get there.......Just think about the idea....It would help drum corps as a whole...Wouldnt that be nice ??????? If you live in NH you only have 1 or 2 choices to march in a competitive corps, junior wise....NH doesnt have a competitive all-age curcuit, but wouldnt it be cool if they did ???? Again just think about it.....
  16. Hey do you want to still participate in drum corps in some degree, but you're limited on time ??? Or limited on money ???? Have you marched in High School Marching Band,or any Legion Band,or any type/style of Drum Corps.....Are you a musician at any level ????? If you fit any of these categories or even if you dont....There is an option out there for you !!!!!! New Hampshire has a Drum Corps experience for you......The Muchachos Drum & Bugle Corps is based out of Manchester NH,and has been around for several decades and is still thriving w/music and fun,and friends !!!!!!!....We're an "all-age" corps to fit any age,any economic statis, any type of busy lifestyle....We have openings in all area's of the corps AND are also looking to add instructional staff !!!!! Come check us out at www.muchachos.org If you have limited funds,if you have limited time, that's not a problem....Come check out a cool atmosphere,we're friends,we work hard,we have fun.....Its a great time !!!!!!!
  17. Check out the Muchachos from Manchester NH... An all-age corps thriving and going stronge !!!!!!!!!! The corps is always looking to add to there corps in Brass,Percussion, and Guard....The Muchachos have some openings for their instructional staff as well !!!!!! check out any info and contact the corps at... www.muchachos.org have a great summer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. There are different levels of youth at the musician level in different parts of the country. If some youth are familier with drum corps than your statement can hold true, but there are alot of youth that arent that familier with drum corps ate the DCI top 12 level or even DCA top 10,so there is a market for youth, with talent at different levels to present an idea of a type of drum corps.Drum corps life and performing is what you make of it at any level,I'm not knocking DCI,but DCI and DCA are not the only examples of what drum corps is or can be,there's a larger picture.....Just a thought is all....
  20. I wouldnt have pictures of 1989 but may have of other years, and may be VHS....
  21. I marched in thr GSG 1983-1988,and 1990...Todd Breen
  22. I marched in the GSG from 1983-1988,then Sept of 89 to May of 1990 when they folded. My cousin(Ed Sterling) was one of the Simplex former members that went to teach the GSG when Simplex folded and the equipment came to Keene NH.Some of the staff that worked with the GSG were Ed Sterling,Mark Lore,Mike Lore,Joe White,Bill Jamsa, some guy nicknamed "fudge"(brass-soprano),some guy nicknamed "Jazz"...Paul something ????.... taught mallets(front ensemble) Joan Jolie,Reed Desrosiers,Eric Shadine??,Rick Anderson. There was another guy named Tony Koski that worked with Simplex as well either brass or drill ????As for Chris Dufault,he taught me in the Spartans for 1990 & 1991,and I worked w/him on the percussion staff in 1992.Chris Dufault also teach's with me in the Muchachos of Manchester NH,along w/an old marching buddy from the GSG days teaching brass. www.muchachos.org The Muchachos are an "all-age" corps and were always looking for new members and instructional staff...check us out .... www.muchachos.org or email me "todd" yamaha5pc@yahoo.com
