  3. THe '72 DVDs are great and bring me right back to Drum Corps at its best. Regarding the Hurc's, for pure listening enjoyment both horns and drums, their 1971 show was their best and can not be beat. IMHO
  4. According to the articles posted on pg. 20 of this thread by GrewvyG2 one of the DMs was Dick Dyckman
  5. Hi Gary If you go to http://drumcorpswiki.com/index.php?title=E...;action=history you will see the names of those who contributed to the site. I added the RCA part. John
  6. For all of us that were part of the Red Carpet Assoc. I would like to suggest that you visit http://drumcorpswiki.com/RCA , find your Corps and fill in the blanks. It would be a shame to loose that history
  7. HI We [imperial Knights from Sudbury] competed against the Grennies from 1970 through 1976. If you check out the following link you'll find our contests (most with scores) that I have able to find - many include Kingston. http://drumcorpswiki.com/Imperial_Knights,_Sudbury . In your research if you come across any others that we shared I would really appreciate them to add to my list. Good luck on your 50th
  8. The Imperial Knights from Sudbury, Ont had the pleasure of competing against Les Diplomates only once, I believe in 1970 or 71 in Lindsay Ont. They were an A class corps and we were B class at the time. Once we hit the party, as about half our members spoke french, we had an instant corps fest on equal ground. Any Dip members or other corps on the field that evening remember that contest? Let me know!!!
  9. 1972 was a great year! Having travelled for over 12 hours to see it was worth every mile. At that time I was with a small corps from Sudbury, Ontario Canada the Imperial Knights. We had just completed our first year in RCA and finished 5th only 3/10 out of third place and had to make a decision to try out for DCA or pass. Due to many reasons, mentioned in another post regarding RCA, we took a pass. At RCA we were almost 3 points ahead of the Matadors who made DCA that day, all of that to say it would have been such a rush to have been on the field that night. Even thought Cabs. won DCA that night every member of every corps should, over 30 years later, feel like a champion. What a contest
  10. You might go to http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/Westshoremen and make the correction there to name history etc. Also they are looking for information for Johnsonburg http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/index.php?###...amp;action=edit maybe you could help there
  11. I have started adding the information I have regarding RCA contest scores etc to the following web site http://www.drumcorpswiki.com . Thus far I have added to the pages : http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/Hanover_Lancers , http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/Emmaus_Sentinels , http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/Suburban_Knights as well as my own corps http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/Imperial_Knights%2C_Sudbury . I will add to other RCA Corps, and hope that you do as well, when time permits. All of this information shouldn't be lost. They were too good a time to forget.
  12. I am trying to post RCA information at this site http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/RCA Also would be great if Ron put his history of the Red Carpet Assoc. there.
  13. Most corps that made that choice did so for the right reasons. Too many times a corps would gobble up (merge) with others with the eventual loss of all corps in the area. Bigger might have ment better in terms of performance etc but at what cost. I am astounded to hear that corps now a days have tryouts for positions. We taught from the ground up, had local writters and instructors yet I truely believe entertained our audiences, look at all the Corps that have gone under just trying to be in the elite. What a loss to a great hobby. The only Corps members to ever hassel us at a party were Pheonix members, maybe they were getting ready for the big time.
  14. Sorry to hear the Big John is no longer with us. "missed opportunity which was taking the corps to DCA`s which would of been a top ten finish" It is interesting that you mentioned not going to DCA's as a mistake. In our first year in RCA (1972) we finished 5th and if: a) placing remained constant and B) we would have taken the 16 hour trip to Jersey City we would have made DCA. It was a hard decision to make NOT to go but I knew our corps would never be of DCA size, we could not afford the cost of instruction, nor could we afford the cost of travelling even further for DCA contests and of course the toll it would take on the membership. So we stayed RCA only and loved it, great contests, fun parties, and great people. I wonder if other corps were forced to make similar decisions? Thanks for the info on the 1971 show, if you come across anyother info that mention us please let me know
  15. That would be great if he joins in and especially if he he has access to old Grennie records, programs etc. to aid in my research. Director of your corps way back during my time was John Raymond
  16. We had the pleasure of competing in Kingston several times (73 & 75) and Belleville (75). In my research I see we also competed at the 10th Annual Parade of Drums in Kingston...any idea what year that was? What I know was that Kingston finished 1st, Sudbury 2nd ,and Lindsay 3rd. You beat us by just over a point and we took best GE, M&M, and Colour Guard trophies. Were there other corps there?
  17. Hi all...I am putting together the history of the Sudbury Imperial Knights, RCA 1972-76, on the following web site http://www.drumcorpswiki.com/Imperial_Knights%2C_Sudbury . It lists many scores from contest that the IK were in and of course lists many scores from corps that you marched with. Anything you can add to my research would be of great help (thanks to Gary for 1975 scores)
