  1. First off, congrats to all of the corps that made it to the finals, FDB rooted for everyone there and saw great performances all around! Special congrats to THE KNIGHTS for winning it and keeping the championship in the CLASS family (though FDB DID win the CLASS Championships. HAHA)!!! With DCPI-XII now over the FDO can now look to clear horizons as to what to do for the upcoming season. I will say that we are bringing ALL of our corps back as well as our pre-season event. However, we do have some changes for our pre-season event, but more to come on that later in the post. Some may think that this is premature, but if I personally don't do this now, then I'll end up forgetting!!! The flagship corps, Florida Dragon Battalion will be bringing back a show that we wanted to do in DCPI-X but never got the chance to do it. "Trittico" by Vaclav Nehlybel Mvt. I - Allegro Maestoso Mvt. II - Adagio Mvt. III - Allegro Marcato There will be a total of 146 members (78 Brass, 36 Percussion, 30 Guard, 2 Drum Majors) in the FDB for DCPI-XIII. DCPI-VIII Division II (now Open Class) Champions Florida Dragon Regiment will be performing a show based off a HBO hit miniseries. "Music from Band of Brothers" by Michael Kamen Mvt. I - Main Theme Mvt. II - The Mission Begins Mvt. III - Bull's Theme Mvt. IV - Excerpts from Suite No. 2 Mvt. V - Requiem for a Soldier There will be a total of 120 members (60 Brass, 30 Percussion, 28 Guard, 2 Drum Majors) in the FDR for DCPI-XIII. DCPI-VIII Division III (now A Class) Silver Medalists Florida Dragon Cadets has some latin feel to themselves this coming season. Some of the pieces may seem very familiar. (But hey, I like them!! LOL) "Latin Fever" Mvt. I - Escorpion Mvt. II - Bolero (Maurice Ravel) Mvt. III - Como la Flor (Selena, in case some didn't know) Mvt. IV - One More Time, Chuck Corea There will be a total of 84 members (40 Brass, 24 Percussion, 19 Guard, 1 Drum Major) in the FDC for DCPI-XIII. FDO's Pre-Season event is coming back but with a different feel. We want to try something different out this time around offering a full week of competition where each ensemble attending will perform once a day for four days (Monday through Thursday) to get a feel for it and to earn as many points as they can. After the four days, only a certain amount of corps will be allowed to perform at Friday's Quarterfinals event. Saturday will be where the Semifinals (morning/afternoon) and Finals (evening) events will take place. We are still working out all of the details, but the scoring format will be done in a traditional marching band set up for the state of Florida, though expanded and with a couple of twists of my own. There are two judges for each of the primary captions (GE, Music, Visual) except for Individual Music and Individual Visual. If you're not familiar, I will gladly explain. Primary Captions General Effect (40 points) = GE Music (2 judges, 20 points each, averaged together) + GE Visual (2 judges, 20 points each, averaged together) = up to 40 possible points Music Performance (30 points) = Ensemble Music (2 judges, 20 points each, averaged together) + Individual Music (1 judge for 10 points) = up to 30 possible points Visual Performance (30 points) = Ensemble Visual (2 judges, 20 points each, averaged together) + Individual Visual (1 judge for 10 points) = up to 30 possible points Side Captions Percussion (100 points, ONE JUDGE) = Front Ensemble (50 points) + Battery (50 points) = up to 100 possible points Color Guard (100 points, ONE JUDGE) = Flags / Rifles (50 points) + Dancers / Sabres (50 points) = up to 100 possible points Drum Major (100 points, ONE JUDGE) = Image / Projection (50 points) + Field Conducting (50 points) = up to 100 possible points For classes, I tend to go with a Marching Band style where there's no World Class or anything like that. This event offers five classes (A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A) depending on the SIZE of your group. Just because you're bringing bigger groups doesn't mean that you're better! Organizations will be allowed to have one group PER class, so a total of five groups will be able to attend. This could also help Executive Directors out that want to also bring those that auditioned but didn't quite make the cut as they can still get a feel of what it's like to compete in a DCPI Pre-Season setting. The registration form will be posted shortly, but I know that "Caption Submissions" will be done by a random number system, except that YOU pick the numbers. More to come on that. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or send my an IM on Yahoo! (username: wwildt). -Wayne PS: Mitch I'll be asking for new logos and show posters for my corps soon too!
  2. 14th.... with our highest scores ever! We'll take it and run considering we haven't been in DCPI in a couple of seasons. The entire FDO would like to thank everyone for supporting us and we do have plans on bringing back a pre-season show, though more in an expanded style. Shows are already taking shape too! More to come!
  3. Dropped a place... oh well, no biggie, still my highest showing yet in championships so far! -Wayne
  4. Battalion's in second at the moment. We're not going to change anything up except work on minor issues seen at the quarters. This year's championships are probably going to be the closest ever. I wouldn't even want to do predictions it's so close! -Wayne
  5. Surprisingly, I'm the one that's in first right now. Usually I'm lucky to be borderline in even making it past quarterfinals! -Wayne
  6. Thanks! To be honest, I didn't even notice. Oops. -Wayne
  7. I generally go with the trends. If I see good scores, I'll run with who has the best scores if I can afford it. It worked for the New Orleans prelims. Let's see how it holds.
  8. Well, the fire that was laid under the butts of the FDB worked. Broke 80 for the first time this season and are currently in first place in New Orleans. Let's hope we can at least medal considering our performances this past week. -Wayne
  9. Tonight. Scores should be posted tomorrow afternoon-ish. -Wayne
  10. The Florida Dragon Alumni Brigade will be coming back this season, though with a different type of show than what people are used to typically from the ensembles of the Florida Dragon Organization. This is the FDAB's first time back since season II of CLASS ACT, so it will be interesting to see what's in store for us. This is the first step in rebuilding the FDO (where we will be going full force come DCPI's 13th Season). BREAKDOWN OF CORPS MEMBERSHIP DRUM MAJOR: 1 BRASS: 80 Trumpet: 32 Mellophone: 17 Baritones: 17 Contras: 14 PERCUSSION: 33 Front Ensemble: 10 Snares: 9 Tenors: 5 Basses: 5 Cymbals: 4 COLOR GUARD: 36 Flags: 24 Dance: 12 TOTAL: 150 SHOW FOR CLASS ACT V Show Title: A Night at the Movies -- Opening Credits -- Jurassic Park (1993), John Williams -- Hymn to the Fallen -- Saving Private Ryan (1998), John Williams -- Enterprising Young Men -- Star Trek (2009), Michael Giacchino -- Zero to Hero -- Hercules (1997), Cheryl Freeman
  11. It's just how the scores add up. You may have got 2 out of 3 high caption awards, but may have been lackluster in the 3rd caption and didn't place well there. Just my theory. -Wayne
  12. Hey all, It has been a long while since I have been at DCPI, but I will be back for this season, but not in full swing. Because of everything I have going on right now (other online communities, work, certification testing, etc), I am only having one corps in DCPI and it looks like that they're doing very well for a first night back with a score of 76.961! But to give you knowledge of what the FDB is doing, here is the repertoire for this season of DCPI: Wind Band Music with a European Feel: I. (Russia) Symphony No. 3 "Slavyanskaya" Mvt. I: Allegro II. (Great Britain) World in Union (based off a the melody from the First Movement of Gustav Holst's First Suite in E-Flat) III. (Scotland) Culloden Mvt. III Congrats to everyone on a fantastic first night and good luck to all! -Wayne

  15. Reminder that directors are allowed to participate in one or ALL of the events slated for the festival. Believe it or not, the Concert Band part of the festival has attracted the most attention so far, but let's get the rest up there! Veteran directors, where are you at??? I know that it's the winter season and no one is nearly as active, but this is open to ALL! Take care, Wayne

  17. Just to let everyone know that I have already started to receive applications for the festival. It looks like that it may be a short festival so far, but it will be a good one nonetheless! Applications will be taken until Thursday December 4th at 10PM Eastern standard time. Thanks everyone, Wayne
  18. Due to this regional most likely attracting more attention and receiving much more attention than originally thought of, rehearsal sites will be at the local high schools, but housing (due to the fact that the corps will have to ACTUALLY sleep and we want our participants to have nice beds rather than uncomfortable bus seats to be on), housing will be set up at the following local colleges and universities: University of Central Florida, Rollins College, and Valencia Community College. If absolutely necessary and we will help with timing and transportation issues, Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL (less than one hour from Orlando) will be used as an ALTERNATE site for housing IF NEED BE. Thanks, Wayne Wildt Exec. Director, FDO PS: Reminder that the Dragon Festival of Music is currently taking applicants. If you want to participate, get your application ASAP!!! Thanks!
