  1. pay your membership....just kidding. new corps are always tough...partnerships with every local school, college, church, community center, YMCA, YWCA, CYO, PAL and scouts troops you can. It wont be easy, but nothing worth while ever is. good luck.
  2. Whats the matter tom, afraid someone might actually read what I say and see you for what you are? I ask the moderators to leave it.
  3. HELLOOOOOO in there!!! Is anyone home, lights are on but no ones home! My name is not Art. I have told you that before. But, whatever, you obviously do not know my name and that is a good thing! I am not a low-life, or a loser or a coward or a liar, I am quite knowledgeable and quite capable of defending my position on this. I am also not going to sit down and take it when someone uses my log-in name and tries to fool the DCP forum readers into thinking that things are not what they truly are. My log-in name is M&MBozo, I have never changed it. I do not know who the other poster is. DCP forum readers do not be fooled by this man---seriously, anyone who cares at all --believe me that what I say is the truth. I have not been in contact with brassojerk in months and he came out of no where to slam me. He is a gossip queen who needs your sympathy and your approval. Ask yourself, why did he even put all that stuff in his post about getting paid after he announced the job?? It was for no good reason, it was so people could react just the way you did. He needs to hear that people support him, he need to hear that he can do things outside of the norm, he needs to be told that he is right, all the time! Again, even with this post he is seemingly taking the high road, but still he flamed out, calling names, and saying things like "leave me alone", "I have put up with you for 2 years" - I have not been a member of DCP for 2 years, so what is he talking about??? And by the way, I can read any post I want, you can not control me, that is probably your biggest issue. Forum readers, re-read my first post carefully. This man is crazy.
  4. OH MY GOD!!! Are you joking? I can not even believe that you are still pulling this crap. I have not said "boo" to you in months!! You are not a target of mine. Please get a grip on your realm of reality. And yes, I will continue to stay anonymous. That seems to bother you, so I will indeed continue it. Ya know what...I give up, thats it, you are amazing! You are god gift to drum corps or mini corps or MCA or BOM or whatever else you do! You are a god amongst mere mortals! Thank you for letting us share this forum site with you! Please tell us all how you do it!! The paparazzi must be a real ##### for you to deal with! Lets clarify; I never said you shouldn't get paid to do gigs! Go back and look it up. I said, I didn't agree with members of a competitive group being paid within the constraints of a competition. It promotes bringing in ringers and skewing the competition. AND I never mentioned you. You were the one who jumped all over it and made fast work of explaining to everyone how you do business. In my experience, it is usually the guilty who need to give explanation. If you do a job like the one you describe, then take the cash!!! And if you do a parade, and the parade people want to pay you, then take the cash! If you want to pay your members gas money for driving, then pay them! I don't care! You are so ridiculous with all of your conjecture and grand-standing! If you were an attorney- wait a minute-are you an attorney? You must be, I figured it out! But, I would tell the judge to strike your comments from the record due to you testifying for yourself. What is that old saying? Only a fool would represent himself! How perfect. All you had to do was announce your job. But that wasn't good enough for you. No, you wanted to create a scene, create a stir, create a buzz. And get some justification for the way you have conducted your business. You had to create this imaginary conflict between me and you. You have not been a thought in my head for months, I do not care what you do! Get paid, don't get paid, do jobs, don't do jobs, use your music stand or don't, I do not care. You are not a target of mine. As you said, if you don't like us then look away---Hey buddy, I looked away-MONTHS AGO. Is that what got to you the most?---that I could actually look away and that I wasn't playing your games? What is up with you? You are so needy. You need for the forum community to feel like you are being falsely persecuted so that you gain there sympathy and at the same time get their approval. "poor tom" "go tom" "keep it up tom" "your the best tom" Is that what you need to feed your ego? If the forum community only knew what I have always known. Anyone who is truly out to spread the good will of musicianship and performance as you continuously claim, "just play" and constantly referring to your group as "a little and humble group doing things in our own way", ect., that person would not have slammed me the first day I asked about your group, and every time since. It is amazing to me how often you edit your posts. I suggest all of the forum reader who want to waste some time, to go back and look at brassomaniacs posts. He continuously edits his posts to ensure he comes out on top. For the record, I think the pep band job sounded awesome! Paid or not---I could care less. But, I would love to play for march madness somewhere. In high school, we had some much fun playing in the stands for basketball games. But when I saw that you had brought me into the fold again with your "it's no ones business, but BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, I'll tell you anyways" , and you made sure to trick the forum readers into thinking that I had been recently arguing with you about you getting paid and doing business...god, get over yourself. How much more of your BS is really just BS? With all the great things you post on here about your group, one would think that the last thing you have time for is creating BS stories. You obviously do have a group that stays busy, so go do your thing and, to use your own words, "Why not just go out and do drum corps YOUR own way, and let us do the same? Would that be SO hard?" Please DO NOT mention me in your posts again! I would suggest you forget about me as I HAD already forgotten about you.
  5. huh? hidden agenda of what? never mind then, dont keep it going.
  6. wow! thank you, thank you, thank you to all who have had fun with this post. I just got home and can not believe the action on this thread. I love the "will march for food/beer" posts. And it is great how many folks are coming out for this one. and on both sides of the debate. I think bartering is fair too. If someone has something the core needs, and the corps is willing to trade it for membership, that seems fair. My original thought was more on a job by job basis though. For a concert or a parade, getting paid to do each job. But, from reading this, that doesn't seem to be common in drum corps. Just some payment for the soloist. But I only read through this once, I have to read it all again. remember the original question, what if a corps was completely paid for with million dollar salaries and the whole major league sports deal. Would that corp win? Could that corp win? Or would it be like the Florida Marlins? (sorry if there are Marlins any fans out there) Thanks lets keep it going
  7. Mr. Brassomianiac, this is why I erase my posts with you. You are convinced I am someone that I am not. You completely sidetrack the post into a war between us. I DO NOT KNOW YOU!!! There is only one band teacher in Waverly, so I will tell her you said hello! and I never said there was a corps that paid everyone, it was a hypathetical question, what if? Like I said, my name is not art, so please stop ruining my posts.
  8. Mr. Brassomaniac, really, you certainly had alot to say if you think it is not a topic to be discussed here. It is interesting how you can say your post all you want, but then once your done, it is then time to close the post. You did this to my last post too. I DO NOT KNOW YOU!!! I didn't quite understand your first response, but now I think I do. I think you believe me to be someone who I am not. I am not sure, you may be talking to someone else on this thread(it is kinda hard to follow), but if you are talking to me, then my name is not art. My name is not important. I live in Waverly, Ohio. (it is a small town about an hour east of Cinci.) I have not ever marched drum corps (yet!!), but I have been following it for a while and love the activity. I think I had a conversation with you (brassomaniac) a while back, right? Why are you attacking my posts? nonetheless, it seems I have upset you and this was not a means for that. I do not know you or your group other than what I have learned from your website. I am not looking to get your group banned for anything (especially music stand??? - not sure what you are talking about??) My suggestion is if you have enemies out there, go find them and make them your friend. I assure you, I am not your enemy. I just wanted to get the opinion of some drum corps people about my original topic. Thank you for your opinion. I thought it was an interesting topic. And from the others who have posted I have learned quite a bit. I did not write this post to you or about you/your corps. I am new to the drum corps scene (relatively speaking, my dad has all the videos), and when the prospect of being paid became a reality for me, I was just wondering what everyone thought. I have learned though that fire house bands usually do pay members and some smaller town bands too.
  9. I have been asked to try out for a local community band in Ohio and I have been told that they pay their members. Its not alot, but the money earned is split up between the members. My father was in drum corps and I want to march drum corps too, but I do not believe I am quite ready. A friend of mine asked me to try-out for the comm band with him and after hearing that they pay you to play, I was wondering if this was a common practice in any drum corps or if this is unique to this band. I have visited almost every corps website both DCI and DCA and most ask members to pay dues, but wasn't sure if anyone could shed any light on this for me. The question I was wondering is would a drum corps be allowed to compete in the same circuit if there was a "Yankees" type drum corps with a "George Steinbrenner" paying for the best musicians money could buy. It wouldn't seem fair, would it? At what point does the corps become a professional corps vs. a non-profit??? I know that no amount of money can buy loyalty and/or passion. But it seems that this is the last unexplored option in drum corps...to pay the membership! And that is not to say that if a musician is paid then they are not passionate, I am sure they are, why wouldn't they be, they are making money! Anyone have any thoughts?
  10. John, this is all exciting stuff. Any chance for reconsidering the recent changes to the DCA forums with the merger of the Announcement and Discussion forums? Or may be a consideration of seperation of DCA and Alumni corps? There is so many groups represented in the DCA Class A/DCA Open Class/DCA mini-corps and the Alumni world, it is often nearly futile to post now as it ends up on page 7 after only a few hours. Just wondering. Also, I would be interested to see if the number of posts have reduced since the change, I have heard alot of grumbling about not liking the changes. I'm curious?
  11. I haven't been on in a while, and I see the forums have changed a bit. It took me a minute to find everything. I haven't heard of many of these corps, are they are competitive groups? I hope so!!! Can someone put a class notation next to each corps telling me whether the corps is a Class A corps, an Open Class corps or an Alumni group? That would be great!!! I hope to get out to Rochester this year! I want to see all of these corps!
  12. Mr. McDonald, I tried to visit your website and it seems to be down...just thought you'd like to know.
  13. Great stuff! WOW! love a big hornline.
