  1. They were the only Division II corps at Allentown. I'm sure the score would be different if they were with other div ii corps. This happens all the time. The numbers are not important. What is is that they got quality feedback from higher quality judges than Division II usually has, so that they can come back with a higher quality product.
  2. We're very happy to be placing so well! We got a lot of help from the Imperial Sound. They even sent a few of their guys over to do a workshop with us. Very classy, and we are happy to be a part of their drum corps organization!
  3. West Coast = :sshh: Middle Coast = East Coast = ^0^
  4. I saw this show with a friend of mine. I've been watching drum corps in Division I and II for a while longer than he has and we both got chills. Surf 2006 - Everything I heard about last year has made me come to the conclusion that last years was an off year for this corps. From what I heard, there was little sense of purpose and the corps lost much steam during Finals week. The show itself seemed built to fail, and that is my honest opinion. The music was mundane and lacked emotion. The show itself lacked a concept other than the fact that the show was 4 songs from Moulin Rogue, a movie which blowed. I can't really say how much I hated this show. Visually, there were a lot of cool concepts, but, combined with the show's music and the individual marching program of the members, the corps did not get the points that it would have if the drill was cleaner. The brass section had an issue with the new Bb horns. By the time that they got the new horns, where most members had memorized music, the corps was getting ready to put drill on the field. This was a huge mistake. This really hurt the corps psychologically. Surf 2007 - The members have been pumped with determination since the beginning camps. This corps really wants to win. Their is more of a sense of family and corps history and overall respect at this corps than last year, from what I'm told. The visual staff has both retained very good people and acquired very good people from ECJ. The visual program is new and interesting and very jazzy. The biggest problem when I saw the corps before they went away on Mini-Tour was individual upper body movement. A lot of sway and carage problems on certain individuals in the low brass section. This hornline is freakin' incredible. From the first note, it made the hair on my arms stand up. The trumpet duet in Shaft is a welcome new experiment for this corps. I don't really like the ballad, but I appreciate it for spotlighting different timbres in the hornline. The pit is experimenting with several different cool instruments. I really like the new drums in the battery. They are red lacquer, and since the color does not match, they stand out. The percussion section is better than they were last year, although they are the weakest part of the corps right now. The best part of this show is the closer. It's Bloody Sunday from LA Confidential and it stings with isolated attacks from the brass and perc. (think Cadets 1990 after the ballad) and then they go into California Dreamin' for the end. One of the cool visual things this year is the prop racks with the panoramas of each of the parts of the show (new york skyline for shaft, barn for Unsquare Dance). That looks cool and doesn't interfere with the show, but it contributes to the show, not like the Cadets 2006 racks did. Overall, this corps is going somewhere! And I saw the Spartans show too, but I definately thought this show was better. Better execution, music. All they need is to tighten the screws on their visual program.
  5. I'm sorry, but maybe if you saw the Surf show you'd think different. They are not the same corps as last year, by far.
  6. 1. Jersey Surf 2. Spartans 3. BD "B" 4. SCVC 5. Teal Sound 6. Raiders 7. Colt Cadets I've seen both shows, and I believe that Surf's show just has more of an ability to succeed from a show concept placement. Surf's repetiore musically, I feel, is more challenging and interesting. As for Blue Devils B, I have a feeling that the score is slightly inflated, but not that much. Other than the top two, I cant really say the placements would be surprising. Spartans are ahead visually, and I think that is their greatest advantage, but two things are causing Surf to not be at the level of Spartans. The change of the visual staff, and new marching technique, and the fact that they are a larger corps, and more dirt is likely to be seen in their drill. If Surf comes up to terms in visual, they should be in first place. They also need, as is always true with the Jersey Surf, some more percusion points.
  7. What kind of drum corps do you have where no one drinks or has sex?
  8. Souns like something that would've fit in with Faust.
  9. Unleashed begins tommorow. We are fielding a corps for the Gettysburg show.
  10. Its ok. I'm friends with 3rd_star in real life. In fact, I'm on his computer now, cause im staying at his house tonight. Im going to try to join asap. My corps are going to be a part of his organization.
  11. I'm new here, but I agree with you. I read a thread yesterday, where every single post had a moderator edit up and down the page.
