  1. Saw a few Alberta All Girls alumni yesterday. A dozen or so went to Pasadena and told me 'Anaheim Kingsmen were great'. Debbie wore her 1974 Anaheim Kingsmen T shirt while there. In keeping with the music of our time, thank you Anaheim Kingsmen alumni, for showing others the music of our time in 2007.
  2. Thanks. The girls were wonderful to work for and march with. I was drum major and assistant 'drill-colour guard' instructor with Alberta All Girls 1977. The main drill and colour guard instructor, co-drum major and my roommate in 1977-1978 was Pam McFarland, who marched colour guard in SCV. She became a dear friend and still is. She introduced me to Tower of Power. Drum corps is a small world. Thanks SCV and Alberta All Girls for giving me the opportunity to meet this wonderful lady.
  3. LOL Yes, the mixed bus (boys and girls), the boys bus, the girls bus, the rookie bus, the 'oldies' bus, and when with all girls drum corps the horn bus, the guard and drum bus and sometimes the staff bus, all with different flavours of musical tastes. When you get off the bus and stay home you sometimes hang out together. Toronto area in the mid 1970's, house with a drum set, drum corps people together, Sam K starts the drumming, Ron M the baritone player picks up a trombone, someone else has a guitar, another a flugle horn or trumpet, whatever instrument was there or brought; jam session, no tape, no video, just great, talented, spontaneous music. I have fond memories of the music from the drum corps friends in the 70's. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for triggering my memory. In Ontario we mostly commuted via school buses, no sound system and we sang on the bus. Went to western Canada, better buses, listened to alot of Stevie Wonder, some Tower of Power and Pointer Sisters. When we went to Europe in 1977, it was ABBA. Personally, I like Segovia but the McLaughlin & Dimeola posted earlier is awesome.
  5. 2 that came to mind; I gotta go back to work. http://youtube.com/watch?v=8mn8HjuMoro&amp...ted&search= http://youtube.com/watch?v=1b9YdHep-1U
  6. To - Aged out in 1979, in 4th place at finals in Birmingham. Alberta All Girls went by bus to Birmingham 1979. I had to work and took a flight later, Edmonton to Winnipeg to Chicago to Atlanta to Birmingham. Luggage lost in Chicago. No problem. Birmingham was wonderful. Took pictures of prelims but not enough pictures. (Posted on Old Photos thread.) I had a great time there that year and I do remember the clean blue with Georgia on my mind. Thanks to all competitors that year. I did get my luggage 2 days later just in time to head to Florida. So all was good.
  7. Aged out more than once. Seneca Princemen in 1975. Loved being in this corps. They merged with Toronto Optimists to become Seneca Optimists later that year. I quit marching before 21 years old 'cause I was going to university in Kitchener-Waterloo. Taught Dutch Boy Cadets, great group. Asked to march with Oakland Crusaders in spring of 1976 'cause they needed another flag. Got to go to DCI finals and really age out in 1976. Got the opportunity to march with Alberta All Girls, exhibition group in 1977, no age limit. "Aged out" with them in 1979. Kept my 'shoes' each time. Good thing, 'cause I needed them. Got to find a senior corps in western Canada. Getting itchy feet.
  8. 1969 - Saw Shriner's Internationals and North Americans in Toronto, Ontario. What I wrote in my scrapbook in 1969. I just turned 14 and my opinions then may not be my opinions now. You can get hooked on drum corps without marching in one. "August 10th, 1969. Varsity Stadium, Toronto, Ontario. North American Invitational Drum Corps Championship. I had seen Kilties in the Shriner’s show earlier this year and I thought they were great. I saw Troopers tonight and the sunburst was fantastic. I’ve never seen a real drum corps show. I’m so used to being in a show myself. You have to be in drum corps to understand what drum corps was all about."
  9. I found a scrapbook from 1968-1969. Here are my words from my scrapbook about my first drum corps contest. I was 13. "May 31st, 1969 Etobicoke, Ontario. Alhambra Day in Etobicoke hosted by Michael Power Knights. First show of the year. My very first show. We won over Midlanders. Airplanes flew overhead and muffled Midlanders music. I cried when we won, first show you know."
  10. I may be biased because I marched with and instructed Alberta All Girls, Alberta, Canada. However, Les Châtelaines de Laval, Québec were very classy. If 'Hot' means good sound from drums and horns, entertaining drill, a polished marching style, then both of these all girl drum corps were hot in the 1970's. How I wish you could hear our CD's from 1974 - 1977. Sometimes pictures are not enough.
