  1. Just 1. I didn't go prior to 1980. You can see who had the bites in all the data.
  2. I started at 1980. They were the favorite and didn't pull through 1 time. 0/1 = 0%. There's no emotional analysis going on here, sorry. :sad:/>
  3. It's pointless arguing this topic with someone who thinks amps/electronics as 'hardly extreme'.
  4. Favorite, as in 'favorite/leader to win championships week' Did I still lose you?
  5. Pardon me but year after year during the years I marched and post, extreme rule changes were submitted by him. If you don't think amps are extreme I don't know what else to say and can't expect a Cadet alumnus to understand.
  6. Still waiting for a top 6 corps to do Gladiator. The film Cloud Atlas has some fantastic music that would translate to the field well.
  7. Correct. I would go absolutely crazy if BD did a DT show. It would be amazing.
  8. I was really worried for my own corps in June and was satisfied when I saw the theater show.
  9. Defending champion should always be the favorite at the start of the season until they lose during the season.
  10. Still sounds the same and I stand by my analysis. Sounds like he is comparing the learning at Cadets vs the learning at all other corps in 2013. "These guys are perhaps more advanced." - sounds like he is talking about the members of this year's corps. Who are they more advanced than ? Past year's Cadets members? IMO, I would guess that every year his Cadets 'have a handle on the message'. I don't see the need to even say it unless he's wanting to talk about himself. A cheerleader should never put the focus on themselves. It's always about the team, which in this case is the corps.
  11. Correction: BD wasn't jumped over in 96 or 99. The term 'jumped' sounds like another corps went over them like a leapfrog. That wasn't the case those years.
  12. His submission was the one that passed. Nothing more be said about it.
  13. He's the one responsible for putting amplification into the activity so yes, he gets the target. Way too many extreme rule changes all in the sake of making things 'fun' or bringing in more fans.
  14. Give you a break? Perhaps the OP should have posted the whole thing. I'm not a facebook user or fan and have no reason to even go there. Maybe what you say is true, maybe not. All I can do is read what is here and respond to it how I like.
  15. Agreed. This topic is sensitive and frankly, I'd rather religion stay out of the activity. Historical shows are fine.
  16. You get points just for having Dream Theater on that list!
  17. While I appreciate the comments above, this research was only done for the championship winners/corps favorites for the season. In baseball, good closers are those pitchers who come in with the lead and win the game. The same theory is applied for a drum corps season. Point spread doesn't mean squat. A win is a win.
  18. Stop being a ring chaser and think about what kind of show you like to perform. What kind of people you want to be friends with and hang out with 24/7. Which part of the country you might tour in. Sheesh.
  19. I sure hope this topic hasn't been done as the research took some time Like others here I am a big corps history nut. Every year I hear/read much about how different corps are 'good/strong' closers championships week. Let's look at DCI history and see how true that really is. For this test I looked at which corps won each night of championship week. If the same corps won all nights and the previous head to head night of their competitors, they will be considered the 'favorite'. If different corps won during championships week then I'll look at which won the first night and previous head to head records. If they competed against each other and the 2nd place corps won that match-up, they will be considered the 'favorite' to win finals. If the first place corps of that show won and won all nights of championships week plus the head-to-head matchup prior to the first championship week show they will be considered 'best closers'. Years that had a tie will not penalize either winning corps, but I can't give credit for being a good closer to both when they both weren't favorites. I'll have to look at who 3rd place was and past record. Make sense? Hope I didn't confuse you. Remember, this is all based off of historical data, not rumors or word of mouth of who thought was the favorite. Some of these results might surprise you. Using corpsreps.com for source material, I started with 1980 as previous years had partial data &/or not enough show scores to make a valid statement. Since 1980: 1980 - 27th Lancers wins DCI east but loses to BD both championships nights. 0/1 for Lancers. 1981 - SCV wins Aug 10 and all nights championship week over BD. 1/1 for SCV. 1982 - BD goes undefeated. 1/1 for BD. 1983 - Santa Clara wins semis but loses to BD and Cadets at Finals. 1/2 for SCV. 1984 - BD wins Aug 11th but loses to Cadets both championships nights. 1/2 for BD. 1985 - Cadets wins Aug 10 and both championship nights over SCV. 1/1 for Cadets. 1986 - BD wins Aug 6th and both championship nights over SCV. 2/3 for BD. 1987 - SCV wins Aug 8th but loses both championship nights to Cadets. 1/3 for SCV. 1988 - BD loses to Madison and SCV during championships week after going undefeated. 2/4 for BD. 1989 - SCV wins July 29 and all championship nights over Phantom. 2/4 for SCV. 1990 - Cavaliers wins July 29th but loses to Cadets all championship nights. 0/1 for Cavaliers. 1991 - Star wins July 30th and all championship nights over Cavaliers. 1/1 for Star. 1992 - Star wins Aug 8th and Quarterfinals but loses Semis and Finals to Cavaliers. 1/2 for Star. 1993 - Star wins Quarterfinals but loses Semis and Finals to Cadets. 1/3 for Star. 1994 - BD goes undefeated. 3/5 for BD. 1995 - BD goes undefeated until losing to Cavaliers and Cadets championship week. 3/6 for BD. 1996 - BD wins Aug 5th and all championship nights over Cadets. 4/7 for BD. 1997 - BD wins Aug 9th and all championship nights over Cadets. 5/8 for BD. 1998 - BD wins Quarterfinals but loses Semis and Finals to Cadets and SCV. 5/9 for BD. 1999 - BD wins July 30th over Cavaliers and all championship nights. 6/10 for BD. 2000 - Cadets go undefeated. 2/2 for Cadets. 2001 - BD wins Aug 1st but loses to Cavaliers all championship nights. 6/11 for BD. 2002 - Cavaliers go undefeated. 1/2 for Cavaliers. 2003 - BD wins Aug 2nd and all championship nights. 7/12 for BD. 2004 - BD wins July 31st but loses all championship nights to Cavaliers. 7/13 for BD. 2005 - Cadets wins Aug 7th and all championship nights over Cavaliers. 3/3 for Cadets. 2006 - Cavaliers wins Aug 6th and all championship nights over Phantom. 2/3 for Cavaliers. 2007 - Cadets wins Aug 5th but loses all championship nights to BD. 3/4 for Cadets. 2008 - BD wins Quarters and Semis but loses Finals to Phantom. 7/14 for BD. 2009 - BD goes undefeated. 8/15 for BD. 2010 - BD goes undefeated. 9/16 for BD. 2011 - Cadets wins Aug 7th and all championship nights over BD. 4/5 for Cadets. 2012 - BD goes undefeated. 10/17 for BD. 2013 - BD wins Prelims but loses Semis and Finals to Carolina Crown. 10/18 for BD. Final recap of 'best closer': 27th Lancers 0/1 0% BD 10/18 55.6% Cadets 4/5 80.0% Cavaliers 2/3 66.7% SCV 2/4 50.0% Star 1/3 33.3% Interesting, no?
  20. Looks like I'm marching with Couchmen first half of the season and the West Coast Sleepers in the second half.
  21. All we can go on is what is quoted. To me it sounds like 'other corps' = other world class/open class corps.
  22. "changing the activity for the worse" was not about his comments. If you know GH and his involvement with the activity you know how much he's changed it. IMO, for the worse.
  23. I agree 100% on all spots! Recruiting: the kids are there. I see them at the local shows and even at the theater show in Beaverton this year. They can't all be woodwind players, right? Even if they were I knew some that played brass in corps. Cascades definitely needs to style a show that kids recognize and want to play. A name change to Seattle Cascades would do them well. The corps itself needs to advertise throughout the fall and the staff would do well to recruit players from the bands they teach. Know how I started my 6 years of corps? My band director called me up after my sophomore year and asked me if I was interested in seeing the country. He called me on the 4th of July 1990. I joined the next day with Marauders and was in Utah with them on the 6th, learning the show as they went. He happened to be one of the brass instructors. Six years later I aged out with Cavaliers. It can be done.
