  1. Agreed, but other BODs have fired Madison EDs.
  2. I'm 100% with you after your first sentence. The BOD is not filled with inept people, but they seem reluctance to do their jobs. They have a fiduciary responsibility to make sure that every dollar is being spent efficiently and effectively. It's this current BOD that needs to fire the day-to-day leadership. A wholesale change of the entire madison leadership would spell disaster. Madison people need to share their thoughts concerns, and suggestions with the current BOD, not look to overthrow them.
  3. It's not about losing to Troopers it's about the totality of circumstances. Two Open Class corps that decided to not do a full tour would probably add to the group of corps that Madison will lose to. They can't sustain a World Class corps due to whatever it is that led to their continued struggle to remain relevant within the activity. I don't think they need a BOD change, but I think the people leading Madison need to be replaced. That fulls on the shoulders of the BOD and there are some really smart people who I'm sure would love to turn the thing around, but they need to have the chutzpah to pull the trigger and replace the day-to-day leaders. There could be someone with that chain of people who have ideas but who are being silenced or ignored by CK. This is not dissimilar to Wisconsin's beloved Green Bay Packers. They changed head coaches because the team was not living up to the expectations of the fan base and Owners (those shares of Packer stock are a joke). It wasn't just losing games that led to the firing, it was losing the support of the people who are the team's stakeholders. I know that you don't get it and that you appear to live in a non-competitive bubble, which is OK, but there are certain expectations for any organization that competes, and Madison is out of its league in World Class drum corps...financially, infrastructure, talent, and sustainability. Heck, they're not even from Madison anymore.
  4. After losing to Troopers last night, it's a good thing BDB and Vanguard Cadets aren't going to Indy or Madison may have finished outside the top 20 on Friday. It's time for the blindly loyal fans on Madison's FB Page to get woke. In all seriousness, should Madison consider dropping to Open Class and having a limited tour? They have no food truck and are begging for donations to pay for catered food. They are performing their brand of drum corps which doesn't fit with the current top point earning designs. They struggle to fill the corps with bodies, and the talent level of 16-19 year-old kids just can't compete with 20 and 21 year-olds. I think they are working too hard trying to do what they are getting worse at competing in World Class. They would be top 5 in Open Class, save money, develop leadership and instructors, and have a fan base that will appreciate them winning shows and entertaining crowds.
  5. Nick, it was actually 100% Pure BRED Scout!
  6. Yep, that right. But she married a Madison DM which is kinda a big deal, kinda like dating a QB. ๐Ÿ™‚ They referred to their baby as a 100% pure Scout! That will have to be amended to the First 100% Pure Scout in the future... ๐Ÿ˜ž
  7. She did marry the drum major. That was better than a jacket!
  8. One year, 2018. She was given a member jacket. Bonnie Howard and Rebecca Hershman were billed as Guest Performers.
  9. I hope they know what to address and how to identity a person who can help. Of course the BOD of any organization must have that knowledge, and to ability to know when the time is right to make a change of leadership. You're a Madison guy. Do you have faith that the current BOD thinks the time is right?
  10. They SHOULD, but I think MMXX is going to be a struggle as they try to find themselves. Lot's of different logistical things to be addressed for the Scouts.
  11. If the current kids are hungry for success their only option is fast food. DCI has an age-out wall that limits the time the kids have to shop and cook before eating. I'm not saying Madison will get good over night I'm saying the kids who have the talent to march in a better corps are likely to go to someone who at least performs on Saturday night. The highest level talent may chase a ring. Time is of the essence for a 20-year-old.
  12. It's a huge leap off a cliff for many Scouts' fans and alumni. I'm not sure why some people think girls are the panacea. The most talented girls will still go to the better corps leaving Madison with the left over talent. The same with the boys. WarriorHal wrote that the guys are hungry for success. When I'm hungry I go where I was satiate my appetite immediately rather than grocery shopping and cooking a meal. Will the top talent of the 19 corps seek immediate success? Do they have time to endure a few years of rebuilding?
  13. Sadly, entertaining doesn't pay the bills or draw top talent.
  14. WIthout looking...who won the NIT this year?
  15. This wasn't about Blue Stars until you made it so. It's about the Madison Scouts continued fall from glory and how to stem the portentous reality Madison is living. No one is feeling sorry from what I've read. This thread is fraught with frustration and at times even some anger, but pity? I don't agree.
  16. Blue Star are not two time DCI World Champions. There are only a small handful of corps that can make the claim of having won DCI. Kingsmen SCV Madison Blue Devils Cadets Star Cavaliers Phantom Carolina Crown Bluecoats Any one of who ever marched in one of these corps has a higher expectation for their corps than any fan or alum of other corps could fathom. They wear their championships like a badge of honor.
  17. This is a MADISON SCOUTS discussion. I would assume that no one is talking about Madison on the Blue Devils's discussion pages. I doubt Bears fans were concerned about the Green Bay Packers missing the playoffs for a second year in a row.
  18. It's a misnomer. Not only are they not from Madison and they're not even from Wisconsin. Rebrand them into the co-ed corps they will be from Bloomington IN.
  19. The sound in those seats must be off the charts! ๐Ÿ™„
  20. This is where those of us with a historical perspective have a different mindset than those who are reading about historical drum corps. I understand how people can think of Madison as a non-contender, but for those of us who grew up looking at the Scouts as drum corps gods it seems the universe is out of whack when they aren't neck and neck with BD, SCV, Regiment, Cadets, and the other all male green team. The alumni from the beginning of DCI through the first two decades of DCI have a muscle memory that is hard to shake. I recall distinctly when Star came out of nowhere and upset the status quo. They were good then great and then they won! A corps with 0 history took the activity by storm and disappeared just as quickly as the arrived. When they left, the universe returned to normal! There will always be debates about which era of drum corps was the best, but when a consistent top 6 contender is being outscored by junior corps there is no way to hide that is something amiss.
  21. The rankings are what they are. Clearly there haven't been head-to-head competitions for all corps, but it's illustrative that the scores Madison is earning are lower than 19 other corps. When the season started and the scores from the East and West were being posted it was obvious who the front runners were. The only question was who would be at the top of the heap when everyone started competing directly against each other. Applying Bayesian probability to the current ranking by scores indicates that Madison will end up between 17th and 19th after Semi-Finals. If the Caballeros are scored on the same sheets and judging system as DCI, then you would be correct based on scores, but Hawthorne marches members who are not eligible to march in "junior" corps, making a true comparison impossible.
