  1. wow, so pride is done for a year, and fantasia isn't coming out? it's going to be strange at wgi without them!
  2. There are people here ripping Choctaw apart like they are an independent guard... they are really just high school girls, lighten up a bit. Personally, in watching replay, I feel the show is very uplifting and beautiful. This sport is about art and they, to me, are creating beautiful art. Keep at it Choctaw! You MUST be doing something right, or you wouldn't be where you are. Besides, the people that tear you down probably couldn't do what you do, and if they can, they are jealous.
  3. DUH! It's all about movement! (which NEi won also)
  4. From Central Florida... Not much classical here, Three IW guards, none Classical.... NEi- fast and powerful, Knights - Mr. President... so pop? (best they've been imo) Fahrenheit - french. Other than that, there are three SA guards here worth mentioning, Colonial High School - classical, but BEAUTIFUL, Lyman High School - tori amos-esque, not sure who the artist is, University High School - I think it's based on the movie Babel... really really good though.
  5. Let's save the rude judgment until you actually see the guard. I've seen them, I had chills through my entire body. DEFINATELY a show I think will make WGI history. They deserved that 82 if not more.
  6. Excellent point Zack... IT'S ALL MUSICAL SPINNER'S PERSONAL OPINION. It's clear that they have nothing good to say about NEi from a movement standpoint. Even if he/she did give their credentials, it would still just be an opinion not a fact. Here are the facts, NEi is an extremely sucessful top 5 world guard. NEi puts out entertaining shows to the majority of the winterguard world, ask any person who actually spins in the activity. Lets return this thread to it's ORIGINAL intent, complimenting the guard on their accomplishments instead of personally attacking them based on a closed minded opinion. You've gone from saying you just dont like the movement, to it being stiff, to poor technique, then to good choreography but sacraficing safety for effect, your opinion seems to shift with the winds.
  7. I guess when it comes down to it, it's all your personal opinion. I think NEi has great movement and great hands. If you don't, that doesn't mean you're correct, or incorrect, it means that's your opinion. You can break down the movement to a cute little definition from your modern dance class text book, or you can appreciate the fact that there are colorguards being gutsy enough to try something better than the so called "definition" of movement by WGI. I think people like Mia Micheals and others would have a little bit more to say about a group that tries to be out of the box instead of someone constantly conforming to the norms in place since the beginning of movement in WGI. God bless NEi's movement instructor and her stylistic approach to a show about war. I would much rather see what they did do then see a ballet company perform to the same soundtrack. Having lived in Florida and having the opportunity to go to many FFCC shows since 2000, I have seen the Knights and how they move. It is very consistent from style and execution every year. At least when watching NEi, from someone that is clearly not as intelligent when it comes to dance with no hope what so ever as being as smart as you will be with big medical terms and text book definitions, enjoys watching a stylistic morph from year to year, even if it is a "stiff" upper body during a show about things being blown up around you. But, that's just my opinion.
  8. You feel that their show last year lacked intellectually? Did you see the same show I did? I felt it was incredibly intellectual. Maybe it wasn't as intellectual as... snow, or... batons, but it was an incredible show, full of emotion and a current topic as well. Back to the movement, people keep saying it's bad, it's poor, blah blah blah, I think what really needs to be understood is, IT'S DIFFERENT. Because they aren't doing double turns like Pride, does not mean their movement is lacking. I thought their athletic movement was very stylistic of the show they were perfoming. The show was about war, I personally loved seeing stiff rigid bodies being thrown around because IT MAKES SENSE, and thank GOD there was someone there to break up the classical music and movement. I would hate to watch a show about war and see nothing but ballet turns. Nei in their earlier years had more "classical" movement and nobody had a problem with it then. Now they try something out of the box and get ripped apart for it? Gag, get over it. They were incredible. I would LOVE to see you write a show about war and see it come anywhere close to what they accomplished. NORTHEAST YOU ROCK!
  9. It's not that their movement was ever bad, if you look at recaps, they had a decent score in movement in prelims, then suddenly dropped to 11th in finals? How can they get 1 in equipment execution, score consistently around 3 and 4 in everything else, then get dropped to 11 in movement? Rumor has it the judge apologized and her job was put on review... not even by Northeast... it was someone on the West Coast that made the move.
  10. So they picked up Scott for Brass, we in the colorguard world found out they picked up Jill and Robbie from the INCREDIBLE Northeast Independent World... Anyone else feel like they are trying to make great strides? I hope they come out stronger than ever...
  11. No, they will keep it a secret until their first show... They like the element of suprise. I'm excited to see them... anyone else?
  12. Who totally loved the last two years? I heard this show is going to be more on fire than anything they've ever done... PERSONALLY, I hope they win!
