  1. http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=4...4f-b8e6657c955c Buuuuutt... again, they were told the year before that they'd get in. Spartans did too (though we all know how that worked out). So they had already been through the whole process, and that's why the announcement came so quickly. Move along people, nothing to see here.
  2. Surf already knew by this time because they had been told the year before that they (and Spartans, which obviously didn't work out) would get the nod the following year. I'm guessing the public won't know for another couple months until the schedules come up... though I'm guessing those associated with Teal probably already know their fate. But yeah, one thing we do know is that the only corps going up (if they do, which I think they will) would be Teal... looking at the top OC corps from last year, the only corps with a large enough member-base to work would be Teal or the BD/SCV feeder corps (which obviously aren't going up)... Citations MIGHT have had a chance -- though not for this year -- before their collapse. Just my two cents, of course.
  3. It's funny. I think that with all the boldface, underlining and obscure references to TV shows and ferris wheels from like the 17th century, you're trying to portray and image of yourself as this distinguished gentleman that just hates to see the good name of drum corps ruined in the name of entertainment... but you really just seem like an immature jerk that stamps his foot and pouts just because a corps does a show differently than the way you think they should. You may be "oldschool" and all that, but seriously dude, grow up and get over yourself.
  4. Good question. When you figure it out, let me know.
  5. Nah, oldschool wouldn't like that. Singing + Drum corps = bad, right?
  6. I'd go with the latter, personally. Probably just obtuse. Unlike your Met $5k ticket person, people go to drum corps shows to hear a variety of different music and styles. And unlike the Met, the beauty of doing it in a stadium is that you can always get up and go buy food and/or souvies if you don't like a show. So why don't you try doing that instead of complaining to us on here? Because I can't be the only one that really just doesn't care about what you think drum corps should be.
  7. It was just an example, and not really "hate" anyway... just wasn't my cup o' tea. Considering the Teal hate already in this thread, I thought a little counter example would be appropriate. Apologies if I offended anyone, wasn't my intent.
  8. Thanks for the lecture... but I can't recall ever saying anything about Teal being innovative instead of just incorporating. I just said they had a fun show, which, like that incredible ferris wheel experience, can touch a whole lot of people and make them enjoy the show, and would probably make a lot more people want to march Teal than this year's Blue Devils, which were innovative (love those $1 words), but really rather boring, to be honest. Some corps try to be innovative, some corps try to be fun. I don't know the staff at Teal, but I guarantee you they didn't care nearly as much about their place in the annuals of drum corps history as they were about getting their name out as a fun, exciting corps that gets people off their feet and clapping as opposed to being just another corps that puts on a piece of holy art and allows people to admire and golf-clap at it.
  9. I don't think I was necessarily being harsh; one thing I just really hate about this board is the people who automatically hate a show because it uses electronics, or focuses more on the visual aspect than the music, or because it doesn't have symmetric drill, or whatever. If you don't like it, don't watch it. No need to take a holier-than-thou approach to it and feel the need to rip it apart on a public forum... what exactly does that accomplish, anyway? And FWIW I don't really like electronics or narration either -- but regardless of what I think about corps adding them, Teal put on a heck of a show and I salute them for that. But regardless, we are getting way off topic here. I would love to see Teal in World Class next year; they're a class organization and I think they'd be a quality World Class corps. DCI needs to reward more corps that are taking steps forward (Teal, Academy, Surf) and do more to prevent corps from taking decidedly bigger steps backwards (Magic, Spartans). As long as Teal's finances are in order (which, from this outsider's perspective, it looks like they are), they deserve to be able to make the jump.
  10. Thanks for your opinion. I'm so glad DCP has posters like you to tell us what is right and wrong in the drum corps world today. For the record, I saw Teal a few times this season and absolutely loved them. They weren't as old-school-magical as an SCV or Holy Name, but they were a lot of fun and definitely got the crowd excited and were tons of fun. But you certainly have a right to your opinion. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
  11. Hey all, I'm selling a slightly used Dynasty M503 trumpet on eBay to cover some college costs. If you're interested, please check it out. Just in time for the fall marching band season! Here's a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dynasty-M503-Prof-Marc...1QQcmdZViewItem Thanks for the look!
  12. Just got back from Indy and my own tour... Bluecoats were just insane last night. SCV didn't really have the same vibe, IMO. They were trading placements all season, I think, and Blue just overtook them at the right time.
  13. Pre-show Under Armor rehearsals when you had forgotten to put sunscreen on the areas not covered by the shorter sleeves = Fun. It kind of acted like a bright red arm band... My vote goes to sunglass tans/burns. I still have mine... and I didn't wear sunglasses much this summer (did a lot in '06).
  14. The Blue Man Group actually takes it a step further. They light the water with colored lights, making the splashes all different colors. Awesome affect. Of course, that wouldn't really work in drum corps.
  15. It's also something that the big corps may be able to afford and the smaller corps can't. Making another separation of classes.
  16. This is so addictive... wow... Too bad I'm not nearly good (or focused) enough to make anything worth posting. That's amazing.
  17. This just makes no sense to me. What this rule proposal does, in reality, is remove a large part of the difficulty from drum corps. You want this part at a mezzo piano? Turn down the volume. Big impact point? Go to level 11. All while the hornline is playing the exact same way. No different air temperatures, no different air speeds, just one, constant volume down below. Maybe Hopkins originally proposed this to be soloists only. Maybe he didn't. But was the narration rule proposed for stuff like the singing in 04 Crown and 06 Cadets? I doubt it But that's the way it's used.
