You don't have to like a particular corps and you don't have to like their director, but one should consider more than personal preferences (music and otherwise) when making notations about the rankings. What one really needs to think about is the level of achievement (the what and the how working together) displayed by each corps and the judging system that is being utilized. Does anyone know where Tim Newburn is teaching next season? He's the longtime Glassmen guard caption head. A recent story on the Glassmen web site listed next year's design team and his name wasn't mentioned.

What about Jeff Fiedler? He's already there and he's one of the best. Plus, he has a history of building championship groups with Cavaliers.

What happened to Anthony, the guard caption head for 07 and 08?

I noticed that Tim Newburn, Glassmen's longtime guard designer and caption head, isn't mentioned anywhere in the story posted on their web site. All of the other members of the design team are listed. Is Tim coming back? I hope so. The guy writes some great stuff.

Is the guard staff staying the same for Cavaliers in 2009? Who is their caption head? Who is their primary guard designer/instructor? Are their any key additions for their guard staff?

In response to the person who doesn't see a change in dates for the May move-in period... Some groups HAVE changed their move-in arrival and made it later. For example, I noticed this is the case with Glassmen.

Here are some possible options that I've heard about: Return to a regional based schedule of contests for the first half of the season. In other words, DCI would keep eastern groups in the east, midwest groups in the midwest, etc. It would be similar to what we had a few years ago with DCE, DCI-PD, DCM, etc. The idea would be the elimination of long trips and a savings on fuel costs. Shortening the season, but not the number of contests, would eliminate many of the "day off" situations that a corps has. While those dates allow for extra rehearsal and rest time, they are a financial drain on the groups because they have to find housing on their own and pay for that housing. The corps get one night of free housing when they perform at a contest.

I heard that DCI meetings are taking place in the Indianapolis area today. Apparently, the meetings started yesterday and will last for 2 or 3 days. Does anyone know anything about this?

Rumor has it that DCI will shorten their season in 2009 for financial reasons. In other words, the season will have a later start date and fewer contests. Has anyone else heard this?

Does anyone know the status of the Glassmen color guard staff for next season? Are they returning? There's been a lot of staff people moving around from various corps and I was wondering if the talented Glassmen guard designers and instructors are staying there for 2009.
