  1. Honestly, as a SOA homer, I could care less where SOA places. I'm already so proud of them. There are a lot of great quality shows this year and everybody's really pushing towards the end. Love you Baby Blue! And the best of luck to all the corps in Atlanta. Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, it only makes the activity, as a whole, that much better!
  2. Yeah dude, it's rather simple. Go running, practice, and the most important thing is to never give up. I've seen too many people talk about marching and never do and end up aging out without ever even trying. Best of luck bud.
  3. I've marched Spirit for two years as well as another corps. I find it extremely odd how many people places weight on placement. I remember when everyone use to speak of Spirit constantly getting 12th place every year as if it was the worst thing that could possibly happen and now people are seriously fighting it out to get there. I'll never forget. The feeling of making finals was great, but what surprised me more was how much more I enjoyed my experience at Spirit the following year after not making finals. This show is the best show from Spirit i've seen since the 80's (maybe except for 06 lol) but everytime I see this show it seriously does something for me. I just hope that the members/staff at Spirit don't get discouraged from the past few years and decide to leave. I understand you'll have some people that leave for personal reasons and convenience. But please realize you guys are doing some great things and making alot of people happy. I know it's hard to just "not care" about the scores and everything, I use to be the same way and yeah it kinda stinks but we're all extremely proud. And as for everyone else, pleaase, stop the bashing, that's all I ever see on these forums. It's not like DCI is a thriving activity to begin with and to just constantly put down each other is not helping very much. I love you Spirit, and I always will, i'm wearing my deltas proudly. And I hope everyone has a great last leg of the season. KSA Spirit, Crossmen, Colts, and Bluecoats!
  4. Digging scouts new threads alot! Up there with the 03-05 unis. Spirit's are growing on me. People often complain about there not being a giant delta on the chest but maybe Spirit choose this direction for a reason. It's safe to say that most uniforms today are designed with the show in mind. So as a few had said earlier maybe it's best to wait and see a live show and see how the show design takes advantage of the uniform.......same goes for Crown. Excited for the summer!
  5. If one really wants to march then they'll be able to. I was fortunate for my parents spared me the bucks to part-take my first year, but after that I had to find my own means which resulted in filling holes in whichever corps had vacant spots during the summer and I did this until I aged-out. If you really enjoy the sport then nothing else really matters. If you can't afford to fly out once or twice a month to your dream corps look at one that's closer, so what if it's right down the street it's still drum corps and it's still as rewarding....speaking from experience. DCI.........the rich kid's sport, haha.
  6. I believe a reason people tend to leave to join other corps is because the majority of people believe that one has to participate in a top corps in order for someone to take you seriously. Personally, I think there is no correlation between the caliber of the corps a person marches and their teaching methods/knowledge/success. I know plenty of people who marched top corps and won who turns out to become horrible teachers or ended up working at McDonalds, in other words, world champions are not immuned to real life problems, they're normal just like everyone else. And plus, who says you have to march corps at all to be successful, I mean look at people who marched low placed corps or not at all and still did quiet well. Drum corps should be something that someone does purely for the joy of entertaining or performing challening shows, but more and more people each year goes into the activity to "win" . Drum corps doesn't define the person, the person defines themselves. Don't make a simple thing so complex, just do it to have fun guys. (and to get your ### kicked)
  7. Drum corps is definately not your average cup of tea in terms of heat exposure and the physical beating your body's not use to. Heat plays a big factor and will get to you if you're heavily clothed. I hardly ever took much clothing on account i'm always shirtless in rehearsal(which last 10-13 hours a day collectively). Wear shorts that breath (cloth shorts are a big no no) and I usually pack only like 2-3 outfits for off days and a few shirts for when you have to wear them in public, no need to pack too much. I only took about 5 pairs of shorts, but one wise investment would be in a good pair of shoes, preferably new balances or asics.
  8. Well said! Tell your dad I said "thanks for the advice" Catch you l8r
  9. You can try Spirit, not sure if they've sold all the Euphoniums or not.
