  1. With such a WIDE variety of gospel music to choose from, I am sure it wasn't easy for the design staff to narrow down, and pinpoint the 5 selections they made. The Hurcs are no rookies to doing a gospel type show either. Some of their most entertaining programs have been pulled from this genre. (1992 sticks out in my mind) With the direction DCA is going nowadays, you don't always hear the "classics" and the well knowns, but a more contemporary, modern sound. Not to say the classics don't work, its just nice to hear a new sound. Enem though Mag 7 doesn't quite fit with the show concept, you can be sure you'll hear it at all of the encore performances we plan on doing this year! Anxiously awaiting rehearsal...Super Bowl is this sunday? Nope, Hurcs have practice! Walk Proud James
  2. This announcement is too good NOT to bump...In my ten years with the corps, this is definitely the most excited I have been for a show. The Hurcs are spring boarding off of the most successful year in its history (without winning a championship) and jumping head first into this production. I loved Cavies in 89 and 90, so this closer will be out of this world. Look out for the Green team this year as they appear to have a higher entity on their side in the DCA ring! Walkin Proud! James
  3. Bump. Bump. Bump Bump Bump. Don't forget, brass rehearsal tomorrow 10-5 at The Seymour Rec Center! Directions can be found on our website! See you all there! www.cthurricanes.org
  4. I was in attendance for half the day on Sunday, but I can already tell you...If you thought the Hurcs were intimidating last year, you just WAIT until you see them this year! Unlike most winter beginnings, this year was not a "dust off the chops and learn to play again" start. The educational staff jumped right in and treated this as if it was Sunday morning of Labor Day weekend! And by the end of the day, you could tell this corps means business this year! Justin Mitnik returning as brass caption head already had the hornline huffing and puffing and wanting more! This hornline already has a great sound, and definitely practiced over the break! The day ended with the production of a few excerpts from the brass technique book, as well as the corps song, and warm up Mariah. What a rich, deep sound the 50+ horns in attendance were able to put out in only December! A full percussion in attendance began working the technique book put into place by returning caption head Kevin Murphy. All i can say is 25 snares and 11 tenors were present at the open house. Look out for this battery this summer. They'll definitely get your attention. The pit percussion also had about 15 people in attendance. I believe someone was overheard as to say "I can't believe the talent level in this front ensemble right now" The day ended for the battery showing off a few of their technique exercises, as well as the pit playing one of theirs. Overall, a very successful day for the Hurcs percussion who are looking to improve upon their 3rd place ranking from finals last year. The guard, led by the brilliance of Philip Traini and Jim Zulik again this year, rehearsed all day as well. They definitely have not skipped a beat since September. They performed a short "winter guard"-esque routine for the corps at the end of the day. Can we say three-peat? They already demonstrate the talent, drive and motivation needed to compete in the DCA arena this summer for a third straight guard title! Overall the corps had a very successful day and look forward to the 2010 season. The Jim's, Philip, Kevin, and Justin, along with the rest of the teaching staff are all very excited about this year! If you are on the fence about marching at all, you need to hop off and get to CT! You will not be disappointed. There are still spots available in all sections, so stop by and see whats cooking. The design and educational team have their act together this year to put out another quality program from the green team! Walkin Proud, Thinkin Thunder James
  5. BUMP! Can't wait to see what the Hurcs have in store this year! Go Big Green! If you are on the fence about marching Sr. Drum and Bugle corps this year, I guarantee you will not be upset with the Hurcs! Stop by the open house and check it out. Sunday, 10-5, Shelton High School. Thanks also to the Shelton High School Marching band, and Winter guard for hosting the corps for the day! Walkin Proud! James
  6. This is a HUGE announcement...if I hadn't already decided to march again next year, I probably would be back just for this. I have played Dave's horn book for the last few years with this corps. He does a great job, but I can't wait to see what Jim, Kevin , Tim, Jim, Philip, Jamey and Michael Klesch can do for this hungry drum corps. If you saw the Hurcs in the last 3 years, you know they are moving in the right direction. But you haven't seen anything close to what this year is going to be. Get off the fence and get to the Hurcs open house in December. On the 7th to be exact, in Seymour. Its time to get excited about the 09 Hurricane Season...I love the corps. Walking Proud, always!
