  1. Sometimes?!?!?! I think we need to have a little chat.
  2. Thanks, Dale. I was looking to see if anyone was going to mention Dave. I was having a hard time choosing a solo of his. I was simply going to add... "any solo David Halter played with the Defenders" and leave it at that. That boy hangs with anybody!.
  3. Dennis, We have some good snare drummers already, but there's always room! We also are in search of a few more good bass drummers. We would love to have some talent to add to the line if you are interested in stopping by! Bill Mac Snare
  4. I had the pleasure of working with Carl during the 82 season as a member of the Defenders snare line. I haven't seen him in several years and would love get in touch with him. Is there a chance you would be willing share his contact information?
  5. They got the "new white drums" at the end of the season. They borrowed them from the Defenders who bought them new that year (to replace our old blue vista-lites). They felt that they had a chance to win the drum trophy, but the drums they were using sounded terrible. Sully (our caption head at the time... r.i.p.) and Charley Poole were good friends and worked out the deal. We got our drums back when 27 got home.
  6. They were actually not quints. I believe they were "septoms". They used seven toms and they looked a lot heavier than they needed to be.
  7. I recall one year ('78 or '79) when the Defenders and Crossmen were playing the same closer (New York, New York). Defenders had the flag line on their backs and the horn line stepped over them in a company front. We called it the "walk over". The second time we saw Crossmen that year, they had added something similar. Their flags were on their backs on the field, but perpendicular to the horn line's company front and did more of a "walk between". That was as close to "copycat" as I had seen to that point. Crossmen finished in the top 12 that year (I think), so we were probably seen as the corp that did the copying. It bothered me a little at the time. Then I realized that was very much a compliment.
  8. I am guessing you were in the horn line. Steve Wolpe used to get more than a little upset when anyone would call him Volpe. Again... just a guess. Steve is again working with the Defenders. He is writing for the Defenders Alumni Corp along with Mike Cahill. He is still VERY intense, but his writing has only gotten better!!! That's probably because he doesn't have to be concerned too much with ticks!!!
  9. Oh, Man!!! That's too funny! My big problem is that my hand is usually on her leg and I am tapping with my fingers. She will put up with it for a couple of minutes, but eventually she will have had enough.
  10. Mr. Bob, I must say that I was very proud to read that you only saw/heard Medieval Overture once and that you still remember it! I was in that snare line and we had an absolute blast that year. If you would like to hear it again, there is some old Defenders stuff up on YouTube. Check out BFDTV in the Channels section. The video isn't that great (high 50 yard line for entire show), but it sounds pretty good. There is also a CD available at DefenderAlumni.org. Thanks for remembering. I remember a funny thing (probably not funny to you) that happened to the Kilites one year on the east coast. You guys were on the field at the World Open in Lynn and the sprinklers turned on in the middle of your show. I don't remember what year it was, but I think it was during the early 70's.
