  1. Think you might be missing someone besides Boston... Maybe a corps wearing green that has won five times this decade...
  2. So, you noticed Boston out of the top twelve, but not Cavies being absent...?
  3. Wierd how many of these can come from the Cadets... In 2000, when the trupmets are performing that crazy lick, the tuba section behind them picks up their horns to playing by spinning them up to playing. Looked cool on the video... Not Cadets. but also '05... In Spirit's show, when they switch the chevron to yellow, one of the tubas doesn't make it all the way, and they have a half- yellow, half- silver chevron on the uni. By contrast, still think that the Bluecoats tenor wins for wierdest thing to happen. I mean, how does an entire set of tenors fall off the harness??????
  4. While 4th to 6th may be the real SCV... I wouldn't pull them down to another 7th or even 8th. In 36 years of DCI, they've been below 6th only 5 times... Maybe it's about time for them to bring it back, and bring another run on the title, a la late 90s...
  5. Has the drum corps community really lost faith in SCV??? ALmost all of these posts have them in 6-8th place, just wondering why their pulling them so low. This could be the year for them to show everyone what SCV really is, and they're back at the top tier of competition
  6. I'll play on this one... Starting this year and going backwards In Madison's show, after a drum feature, the drum judge gets trapped in front on one of the hornline members, and the kid can't make his spot End of Bluecoats' show, tenor drummer loses ENTIRE set of tenors on last hits. You can see him do the last hits, then it just tumbles off. ( Easy to see on high-cam, little harder to catch on multi-cam) Also, beginning of Bluecoats' show, when the announcer points at the champion, drags his foot through the turf, and launches a wave of the black turf- buddies in the air (Not sure that's what the technical term is, but we always called them turf-buddies) Phantom's show, the mellophone soloist jumps out of the drill just before the running section in the opener, then jumps back in at the beginning of the ballad Going back a couple of years, in 2005, Quarterfinals, but during Cadet's show, during the drumspeak, the pit guy who starts it has his baldric and mirror come loose, so it's just hanging off his jacket at the end of the feature In 2002, Cavie's show, when their doing the counting in the rhythm section, their counting by pressing down and releasing their valves, not good for the horns, but it worked 2000, there's an extra set of tenors out for the line to do their drum solo on Way back to 1991, at the end of Phantom's show, when some of the members throw off their helmets, one of the trumpet players throws his horn away, you can see it on the right side of the screen on the video...
  7. Here's how things are going down and why... 1.) Holy Name Cadets- can't fight with the 75th, and Bernstein 2.) SCV- Copland, and starting to fins their right mix 3.) Phantom Regiment- Makes a run, but just can't get enough like '08 4.) Cavaliers- Slip in visual cleanliness drags them down 5.) BD- comes out with chip on shoulder, but lets it take over, and loses sight of the goal 6.) Carolina Crown- can't quite maintain after '08 7.) Bluecoats- Can't quite crack the top six, but hanging on all season 8.) Blue Stars- Stronger than '08, but not quite as strong as top 7.. sad really 9.) Madison Scouts- start climbing back up 10.) Blue Knights- go completely esoteric, and GE drops off 11.) Boston Crusaders- just really where I see them falling 12.) Crossmen- It's about time 13.) Glassmen- fight for last spot in finals. but can't take down surging X-Men 14.) Colts- still hovering 15.) Academy- makes big improvements over '08, just not enough to match or better '07 16.) Spirit- Need one more year to get it right 17.) Troopers- Made semis, but need more time to move up farther 18.) PC- Regional touring still holding them back 19.) Jersey Surf- First year in WC 20.) Mandarins- can't really think of much... 21.) Pioneer- Starting to move up in the world 22.) Cascades- merger helps with first year back in competition, but not enough. Give them a few years
  8. TRYING TO GET THIS THREAD BACK ON TOPIC.... Phantom: Dark, Rich, Classical Low Brass Sound BD: Loud and Fast, and always trying new stuff Cavaliers: Awesome Drill, Good Music to match with it Carolina Crown: One of the newcomers to the top 6, and definitely making people take notice Cadets: Breakneck drill, always good music, but with control and balance Bluecoats: Drumline that I think is overtaking the rest of the corps SCV: Tradition, history, those horn snaps, the aussie, that amazingly well balanced sound, and that tradition Blue Stars: Not really much to say, but they came back with a vengeance into Finals after all these years Blue Knights: Very educated sound; sometimes a bit too high-brow for the audience; and body movement Boston Crusaders: History of just being hardcore, and their posture Glassmen: Always great guard, but again where one section is outclassing the rest of the corps Madison Scouts: Tradition, history, Latin, LOUD!!!
  9. Okay, may be walking into the firing line here, but whatever... I really think that BD did all that they could this year. You guys really threw down for Joe, and I know that he's proud of all that you guys did for him this year. When they announced second place, I'll admit I was cheering. I was cheering that Phantom won, not because of BD losing. Phantom threw down, and they just put down a little bit more on the field than BD did, in my opinion from the stands. As for being arrogant, I will admit that it's the good way of being arrogant, more of the "We're the best thing out here and we know kind of look," and I think it really sets them apart from the rest of the groups. Sometimes it gets a bit blatant, and we all heard what happened Finals night, but what's done is done. And if an upset had happened to me, I would be a bit heartbroken over it. That didn't happen for me, but if it had after working that hard, I'll admit it would be hard to take initially. JOE IS PROUD OF ALL THAT YOU GUYS DID THOSE LAST 10 DAYS
  10. You may be thinking of this the other way around from what I meant...
  11. I was there on August 9, 2008, two hear two corps called as champions who had not won at semis... On the field for one, in the stands for the other, but which one???
