  1. Well after volunteering for one week and going back for a second I'll say that things are going "very well" indeed at G-camp. The staff have given the corps a very, very good show for the corps to perform. Heads will turn this year without any doubt. Nuff said bout that. I have also made peace with "Sara". Being on the cook staff I am one of the last to hit the bed at G-West. Anyone who has ever been in the kitchen late at night and having a night cap in the "place we do not speak of" will tell you that it always feels like someone is watching you. I told Sara that I was just helping the kids. The last week went without any more "experiences" like the last camp I was at. All should be well for next week. I hope. As far as G-West being unique it IS. The building is not a sterile, modern school without any character and a "do not touch" anything policy. It has enough character to last a lifetime. (which it has) The corps feels "at home" when at G-West and enjoys the "it's OURS" ownership it gives. Like we used to say back in the day... "TOO COOL"!
  2. The only comparison was in that both Crown and Glassmen had a entertaining, crowd favorite show. Period. Why can't a corps keep the wraps on it's show for as long as it wants. It's called creating interest. Just look at the post being generated over this. How many other shows are being talked about as much? That last line about "if it were positive" is just an unneccessary dig at the Glassmen. "And so the summer madness begins"!
  3. BK have been around longer that most corps in competion today. Making finals back in 63 Seattle along with Troopers. I love seeing their still bangin it today. AND being competitive. It does not matter what they're playing. They will be in the hunt for finals placement along with Stars, Boston, Gmen, X-men, Scouts, Troop AND Spirit. I have to agree with some other DCI post about who's playing what BEFORE anyone actually sees the show as crap. As a Gmen supporter I can't wait to see their show. Good luck to all the corps and let the games begin. Doin drum corps since 68!
  4. It's too bad drum corps has to be "explained" to everyone now days. Crown's show stood on it's own merits as one of the best in years. Very entertaining, classy and a crowd favorite. Just like Glassmen's last year. There is no requirement for a corps to "advertise", "announce" or "post" their show before they come out. Nor should there be any expectations for them to do that. That would be like GM telling the public about their future car programs every month as they develop them. As you said keep your opinion about Gmen or any corps open until you actually see them. But then again hey you'll know the program then right?
  5. No Sh**. I was at the last camp as a volunteer and late Saturday night after we put the corps to bed us vols went to "socialize" in the "boiler room" and I was the last to leave. Sitting next to the fridge, which had a chain bolted to the side of it, I heard a sound and looked up at it. It was moving staight out from fridge and banging it three or four times. It was not moving back and forth like as if a breeze had pushed it. I was looking to see if the entire fridge was moving like a vibration or something. There was no movement, or breeze or anything. It also got REALLY cold in the room right before. The hair on my arms went crazy. On the way home my son and another Gmen were talking about the "ghost" of G-West which they called Sarah and I went numb. I never said anything to them before they brought it up. Too freaky. I'm 56 years old and NEVER have had anything happen like that before. I'm glad Sarah likes the kids because she scared the crap out of me.
  6. What he's asking is simple. Taking ALL 37 years of DCI and add who has won the most high brass, drums and guard captions at Finals. If you want to add actual scores together that's fine too. And I wouldn't be too sure it's all Devils!
  7. Along the same lines...with "mini-corps" serving one venue and Class-A serving another with regard to smaller size corps is there any thought to maybe some day including the Small Drum Corps type (indoor arena) in the DCA weekend? Just asking as it seems that SDC performs more on a basketball court rather than a stage or such. Kemo
  8. Just think though...if Kilts DID do a "Blazing Saddles" show they could have Kenny Norman re-arrange "Strike Up The BEANS"! lol
  9. Not only that but LSM has been competing at DCA since 2005! I'd say that qualifies as a competive senior corps in the Tri-state (MI, Indiana, Ohio) area. Kemo
