  1. how could you find that show boring? Dunno, cavies had an amazing show that year I think [All my opinion, not infringing on anyone's beliefs lol...] Overall Cavies consistently have better designed shows with entertaining music and visual programs. Some say the Cavies can't play but I disagree. Every year in the 2000's with the exception of 2007 and possible exceptions of 2005 and 2008 (I thought they were underscored in brass these 2 years..) the cavies had a fundamentally more balanced and blended hornline (with 2002 being the best ever). They may not have the volume all the time, but they have a GREAT sound. Yeah, phantom plays loudly and very excellently quite consistently. But IMO, sometimes individual sections stick out and play way too loud (ex: mellos). Both are amazing corps, but I have to go with the Cavaliers on this one.
  2. I don't know if anyone mentioned this already... but Gainesville High School basically did Phantom's 03 show (pretty much same music with different, easier drill) and did a darn good job (they won the 3A state title in Florida in 2008).
  3. Outside of top 3, in no order: 2002 Magic of Orlando - balls to the wall hornline 2000 Southwind - they got screwed out of finals 2001 Glassmen - fluegel soloist anyone? 2002 Seattle Cascades - maybe not the cleanest but really entertaining 2007 Carolina Crown - one of my favorite shows ever 2000 Boston Crusaders - what's not to love 2009 Boston Crusaders - see 2000 Boston Crusaders 2006 Bluecoats - the best they've ever been 2007 Bluecoats - brass royally screwed on finals night 2000 SCV - beautiful pretty much sums it up 2005 Carolina Crown - their most beautiful show 2002 SCV - severely underscored 2009 SCV - amazing 2007 Colts - my favorite show of theirs 2007 Blue Knights - a great show in a tough year 2007 SCV - one of my favorite ballads ever 2006 Blue Knights - appreciate the demand and musicality of this show 2002 Phantom Regiment - in some ways better than their similarly themed 1996 show 2008 Carolina Crown - incredible 2001 Colts - VERY GOOD use of color 2006 Carolina Crown - great arrangments and execution
  4. Saying they talked thru the entire 08 show is sort of (but not exactly) like saying the blue devils sat in chairs their entire 09 show- neither are true. yeah the narraration was annoying but their was some serious marching and playing going on in that 08 show.
  5. I agree about Phantom 03 being overrated. Most people realize the visuals are a little sloppy, but from a musical standpoint they had a lot of brass intonation issues and the guard was bleh.
  6. seriously I hate that- Magic had some great shows in 1996 and 2002
  7. I was at both semis and finals and I did not enjoy BD's show, and on finals night I was looking really hard for something to find wrong with their performance. Anything. And I found NOTHING. Visually flawless. That being said , I thought their trumpets were a little bit tinny (still great brass sound though) and I thought they were a wee bit overscored in GE. Hands down deserved 1st place, although I thought they should've been at like the 98.8 range (cause of GE) Don't think Crown deserved a perfect 20 in brass (though they deserved the trophy)- heard some intonation issues in the Sensemaya.
  8. 1. Cadets 2. BD 3.SCV 4.Crown 5.Cavaliers 6.Boston 7.Bluecoats 8.Phantom 9.Blue Stars 10.Glassmen 11.Madison 12.Colts BD will go undefeated all season only to be passed in finals by a push from the Cadets. As much as a love Crown they had a lot of age outs this year but I think with their excellent show design they will stay top 5. Madison will probably make top 12 again along with the Colts (Troopers/BK fighting for recruitment). BAC will have their best year since 2003.
