  1. good point.. I didnt even think about that! and there were sooo many guards bumped.. (not into World, except 1)
  2. I'd say that is pretty successful considering there are guards out there who haven't ever made finals. lol No one is saying that they or any other group is gonna be bumping down just to win another medal!! But most guards give the World guard thing a few seasons before they call it quits.. I thought each year a guard would classify itself based on the incoming members. Kinda why some people bump themselves into World, or bump themselves out of World, or out of Open. I would just wait until auditions before making any decisions. But that is just me Regardless I am excited to see what O2 puts out on the floor, and I am sure it will be another great production
  3. No one is complaining about it, we are discussing it. And like I said before its not just O2.. they are the most recent, but there have been guards before. I just wanted everyones opinions on the matter. I would think more people = more money = more staff = easier to run a guard???
  4. OOPS.. I meant Juxtaposition HAHAHHA!
  5. Maybe? I forgot Pride might come back out soon, But Id think that would affect Zydeco & Juxta more than Onyx, since most the members of Pride marched there
  6. well I don't personally teach a guard, but my point is that O2 has proven they have the skills. They can bump down, win another medal, get bumped into world and repeat.. Defeats the purpose of bumping the groups out of a class and challenging your own group if you only give them one year in World class before you bump them back down. I understand why some guards have to do it, b/c lack of membership, a staff that isn't ready to be in world, lack of talent.. BUT O2 does not have any of those problems.. Their sister guard just won the silver. They need to spread their resources more evenly and have 2 great world guards like St Ann's I just expect more from O2. I want to see them in World!
  7. Then they should do what Zydeco is doing this coming season.. Only field one World guard. Not fair for guards to keep taking medals away from other guards
  8. I am thinking of how all those Independent Open guards, who have been in IO for a bit would feel. how do you think they would feel if O2 medalled GOLD next season in IO? I guess my point is if I were an instructor who is trying to medal or make finals in Open.. and a guard who clearly would have no problem making finals in Open drops down from world, I would be a bit upset. They were bumped for a reason, its too soon in my opinion. Give it another 2 years and if O2 isnt successful in World, then drop them down. I think they have the staff to stay in World and there are plenty of other guards in OH who are in Open and A. They have the talent. But they probably had most their efforts going towards Onyx and all the design went into Onyx.. Spend more time with 02 design wise and they could be great!
  9. Not sure how I feel about this, you just won the Gold not to long ago, they should give them more time in World.. Even out the talent in both guards instead of stacking one guard full of the best. on the subject, I understand guards having to bump themselves back down to open or A, but it just irritates me at times when these guards (not just o2) there are several.... end up winning more medals.. you have already proven you have the talent and show design for Open, challenge yourselves. This is mainly an issue with Independent I guess. (interplay for example) B/c I can understand high schools having to go down to open if they have all freshman. i would like to know what everyone else thinks!?
  10. Since I sat in the second row i would find myself clapping for things that no one clapped for, but i think that was because I was acknowledging individual efforts and individual nuances that had been written in the show. Sitting down close to the floor, definitely gives you a better appreciation for the guard.. While Onyx may not have had a bunch of applause, I was able to clap for those or yell "Get it, or...YES..." whatever it may have been (like a 12 yr old girl at times) several times during t heir show. There are a lot of individual moments that were very effective. I also think that a lot of people who do not want to be the only person clapping, haha I personally do not mind being the only person clapping for an effective moment that may not have been the focus at the time!
  11. West johnson was sooooo fun to watch live!!!!! Great concept and definitely innovative! Loved Trumbull w/o a doubt the strongest weapon line IMO Loved the strength of Alter Ego.. Go figure ^ they have the same staff! I cant wait til black lights are used and glow in the dark material.. WOW maybe I shouldnt be giving this great idea away! haha
  12. yeah I believe that they worked hard and eventually won Gold, which they deserved.. I loved 09 show, which was 4th in prelims and in my opinion should have stayed in 4th place (i agreed with the prelims placements over the finals placements that year), and I even loved the very different production they put out in 2010. But this year was the fist year I do not agree with the placement. and I do think that the politics helped their placement! A very similar situation happen in 2004. When San Jose Raiders won gold in 2003 I was thrilled, loved the show..so happy I got to see it live, but the following year they put out a less than exciting show which wasn't executed as well as it could have been and they placed 4th, which I think was WAY too high. I just think that when you win Gold, its very rare that you are gonna drop out of the the top 5 or 10! and I think a lot of it has to do with politics
  13. yeah, if we were talking about difficulty then Corona would have won, and Ars Nova would have been top 10
  14. Yes.. back in 2008 a good friend put out a show which had a theme of love (falling in love, out of love, etc..) in Ind Open, with the idea of constant motion, like Onyx did and got nailed for it! NAILED! Their drill was very similar to what Onyx did the last two years, yet judges complained that they don't understand why they are doing this kind of drill, etc.. They didnt understand b/c it wasnt a cheesy show about love, it was more abstract, and less stagnant, b/c love is always changing, thus the constant moving.. etc.. One of those kind of shows! Needless to say you cant always try new things unless you have names behind you and are in world. Maybe that is why we keep seeing the same kinds of shows year after year in SA and SO
  15. LOVE your posts!

  16. I care... ...valid issues in judging have been brought up and need to be addressed! Whether or not Scott has an issue with Mr. Lentz, doesn't concern me, but several guards get docked points b/c judges "don't understand" guards shows. Its odd that no one understands Onyx's show yet no one questions it because they won last year??????? There are many instructors who I know who think the same. All this discussion is good for sport/art whatever you want to classsify it as. I personally love reading Scott's post b/c he is very well spoken! Whether you agree or disagree with anyone on here, just being plain rude and not adding anything constructive to the topic is just a waste of time. I didn't like Onyx on video, but I got to watch them at WGI from the 2nd row on the 50 and I enjoyed it, thought it was interesting, different and it made me think. I may not understand it, or agree with the placement, but I do have some respect for the people marching. They dont control what they are given, so my hats off to them for performing what they were given very well! Hope I didn't make anyone angry, not trying to be controversial, just my 2 cents on this heated topic! Cant we all just get along???? HAHA JK
  17. about time they get the scores right!!!!! they should have been scoring higher than Fantasia the entire season!
  18. Onyx named Field & Floors guard of the Year http://www.fieldandfloor.typepad.com/fieldandfloor/2011/04/2011-onyx-repeats-as-fieldfloor-color-guard-of-the-year.html
  19. was wondering what you thought about Lealta!? if you went to Ind World prelims

  20. I dont think it is because of their movement, b/c South Shore doesnt move as well as other they beat, but still won Gold!
  21. Im not a fan of tears on the floor... I can kinda understand it in Scholastic A, Open, or World, since you are graduating, 4 yrs of guard, etc... but its distracting to me, performers shouldnt break character until after the show. Once you are off the floor cry all you want LOL
  22. LMAO best comment!!!!!!!!
