  1. Great to see another CA corps coming on strong. Give the others a run for their money!!
  2. Let's just say you are definitely in the minority.
  3. I have to hand it to Crossmen for doing this show, given that Texas is probably the most raging right wing, radically religious Republican state in the country these days!
  4. I was expecting more on the ending rewrite, obviously it's not finished. CC's endings always sound the same anyway
  5. why is there not a thread for the Hattiesburg show?
  6. yes a few, but they are not good ones
  7. As I amended my comment to say, I have nothing to say about the current show or it's performance. And yes the soloist is very good, and PR's soloists are consistently among the best in the activity. Oh and to answer your question. I don't have the summer off, but I am fortunate to be the owner of my business and I'm able to attend any of the events I wish. I have seen 4 shows live this year, and will see probably 4 more before finals.
  8. This is why I have always felt that every corps in each class should have to perform a given show in addition to their own,or be given a set of criteria that hasto be incorporated into a show that would be judged in addition to their own show
  9. In case anyone is looking, there are plenty of tickets available at the Dome. They won't tell you which seats they are and you have to go to the Dome to buy them.
  10. As far as demographics so, if you widen the area to a hundred mile radius, there is between 2 and 3 million people, to include Montgomery, Birmingham and Atlanta. And who knows, could one day have to be moved to Jordan Hare Stadium in Auburn.
  11. Mikespeed, It might be because they had the money to produce the show. It seems these days that most of the shows are being run by the corps themselves. And you're right, there is a large number of very competitive high school bands within a hundred miles or so. I remember back when Southwind was first established, for a few shorts years there was a show in Montgomery, Al. It was very well attended. I hope that this show succeeds to become a forerunner to the Atlanta regional since it's only two hours away. I plan on going in support and look forward to it. By the way, Opelika is an Indian name. I might disagree with the pronunciation of it thought. It's more like O pa like a with no emphasis on any part of it.
  12. 3rd Glasgow BB, it could not be said better. And it appears I have struck a raw nerve, but I will keep my thoughts to myself in regards to PR. My attitude about this activity is that if all the corps are not striving to be the best corps on the field, then what's the point? This is a competition, after all. Not one of self indulgence of the fans. And trust me, I know I am in the minority when it comes to this. Every year there is much discussion about what the point of this competition is and to whom the corps should be directing their efforts, the fans or the judges. So.......if the corps efforts are to be directed to the fans, then the whole organization should be changed to just an exhibition, not a competition. And lord knows it would save a #### load of money. Of course we all have our prejudices when it comes to style as do the staffs of the individuals corps. How boring would be if we didn't. And if it is going to be a competition, then fans likes and dislikes should not be the determining factor of ratings. I also think that aside from building character and other sociological traits of the kids, the activity should be an educational experience. A music educational one! I think it's true that a large number, if not most, of the kids are studying music. And what good is education if it does not include new and challenging ideas. So many people say that if the fans are not being entertained then the money will dry up. If that's true, then maybe DCI needs to do a better job at attracting fans for the right reason. I dare use the Blue Devils as an example, and they have never been one of my favorite crops. But I do really like their show this year. My point is that their music and marching style is apparently not the favorite among fans, but they do seem to attract some of the most talented kids in the activity. They also have one of the most successful financial support systems in the activity. I think my point is that they are constantly pushing the boundaries and this is not always the most popular with fans but I would venture to say it is by far the most beneficial to the kids. I would imagine in 50 years people will look back on what BD is doing and think of it as being kinda normal, not weird or unappealing. If you read this far, I guess what I'm trying to say is the activity should be educational, whether in a traditional or non-traditional style, but more importantly it should be pushing the kids experience beyond what they are comfortable with. And god forbid, that we fans might learn something too!!!
  13. Yeah, yeah, yeah......i hear you. credibility is mediocrity in your opinion.
  14. Let's hope the "creepy thing" made it's one and only appearance. That may go down as one of the worse things in DCI history.
  15. Whether you want to hear about it or not, the leadership is what's wrong the this corps, pure and simple!!!!!!!!
  16. All very good points Chaos. The one thing I'll add is that CC seems to have a great brass line and there's certainly now lack of volume there.
  17. Your comments are spot on and it's nice to see an alumni speak up. I hear there is a number of alumni that are not supporting the corps because of the leadership. I also heard the last board meeting lasted 6 hours. Wonder what that was all about???
  18. creature is right! it's been dubbed the "creepy thing"
  19. Not sure how I missed the "creepy thing" last night, but I had to go bad and look for it. All I can say is that is stooping to a new low! That's even bad for a high school production. "Creepy thing" needs to go away.
