Just throwing this out there.....
I'm going for BD tonight. Why? This corps is long overdo for an official 3-peat. From a technical standpoint.... this show is awesome. They deserve it!
I wholeheartedly agree with this take.

I think the confusion lies within your statement, “staff that knows how to design winning shows.”
Most fans, I say most…not all, do not understand why the Blue Devils design is the absolute. In terms of GE it consistently is the top, but why? take away GE scores and BD does not have the wins. I believe that’s where the frustration lies. Why do the judges believe this show is #1 while the audience, again not everyone, does not. Maybe the term GE needs to be changed???Saying "if GE wasn't part of the criteria, BD wouldn't be be winning", is the old "if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle" line of reasoning.
Audience reaction is a thing, but no way should it be some sort of component of the judging criteria. The general public is understandably biased. They'd scream like heck for some things, and sit on their hands for others based on who they inherently like and don't like, regardless of its actual quality.
If audience reaction was part of the criteria Scouts, PR and Troopers would have a ton of championships.

There are now a handful of orgs that can compete with BD every year—though sadly SCV was one of them until this season. Still, the resources at the hands of those who run the BD org are vast, diverse and somewhat unique. Regardless of how good Bluecoats, Crown and Boston are, BD has two decades of winning behind them. They can sign almost anyone auditioner they want to sign. This makes it possible to field the most demanding technical shows without dot charts.
It’s simply not a fair fight. It’s not BDs fault, for sure. But let’s be honest and say nine times out of ten BD is going to win because they are literally playing with a stacked deck.
Accurate. When your core staff that knows how to design winning shows has very little turnover in decades, and you're fielding the most talented corps every year, you're going to win. A lot.
In sports terms, BD gets their pick of 5 star recruits.

To my fellow BD Honks..........
Ok guys here we are, finals night where our beloved Devils could capture another title.
So you know what that means if BD can slam the door shut on the competition.............here come the trolls, whining, complaining, crying, and the rest of same regurgitated stuff from previous years from certain people. We all know it's coming, we all know what's going to be said, we need to be ready.
Let's make sure we look out for one another and don't allow each other to get sucked into some trolls trap. Some of these trolls have upped their game and they are good at getting a negative reaction from us to drag us down to their level if we aren't paying attention. And as I learned last night, it can happen to any of us.
After the Mandarins semi-finals run, I had a laspe in judgement that could have gotten me banned from DCP as I allowed a troll to get under my skin. It hits differently when your kid is in the corps, but I have to be better than that, and I have learned from it.
Check your supply of Industrial Strength "Troll Be Gone" Repellent, and I am sure @Cappybara has bottles of Haterade in all different flavors to dish out to the haters who come passing thru.
Let's have a great evening, and enjoy The Cut-Outs one final time!
DO IT UP DEVILS!
Amen. The only response we should give, if any, is.........21.

When you rack up enough GE and visual points, that’s how that works
Granted, but even GE dominance doesn't usually equal that kind of spread with those sort of music captions scores.

If you would've told me that any corps could come in fourth in percussion and brass and win by more than a point in any show I would've said you were crazy.

Is it me, or did they ramp up the tempo a little bit tonight? Especially the opener.

I'm going to fully admit that I didn't realize until tonight that the ending held note of the ballad was from the trombone soloist and not a flugelhorn. Even more impressive.

I'll make the unpopular prediction... I think Bloo passed Crown tonight
Yeah, gonna disagree. Crown came rugged tonight. The circle in the middle wasn't great, but those closing sets were great. Brass showed out big time.

Going to be a nice Cadets/Mandarins slugfest for 5th.

Percussion continues to be a grab bag after Cavies in first. Crown now back to 5th when they had a string of high placements the last few shows.

I have to think the closer still isn't done. That all out sprint half the corps does to the final set is nearly impossible to clean.

Percussion caption has been the most volatile this year. Crown was running 4th or 5th routinely, now they're near the top.
I pointed out a while ago the issue BD was having with their achievement versus content scores and whether or not it was time to break out the hose. We're going to find out.

Boy, people in the show thread seem pretty riled up that BD fans aren’t concerned by the supposed “close” gap. A lot of complaining about BD fans but very little to no comments by BD fans in there. Interesting.
Methinks the gap will be closer to 1 point than 0.5 in Indy
Agreed. I think BD throws some cold water on the haters by putting .75 or higher on Crown tonight.

Blue Devils won only 2 captions, tied another, and their fans will still not accept that they can be conquered this season. This is probably the most competitive season of the activity in over 10 years. Amazing how much has changed in one week.
Not sure who you're referring to, but I accept it just fine. May the best corps win, regardless of who it is. I simply said closing the gap on Devs, and beating them, are two different things.

And Crown percussion was scored 3rd, above BD, Bluecoats and Cadets. Impressive showing from those guys. I still think it's Cavaliers or Boston for the Sanford but any of these top 6 are good enough to be Sanford winners most years.
Impressive turnaround.
Sanford is as big a toss up this year than any other I can remember. At least recently.

It is a 4 corps race for 1st
Don’t live in denial BD fans. Just embrace it. And if you win, feel all the better about it.
I embrace it just fine, because BD still hasn't been beaten. Closing the gap is one thing. Beating BD next Saturday is another. If someone manages to do that, more power to them.

I can't predict judges. But it's possible the Phantom/Cadets/Mandarins battle pushes the ceiling higher for Boston and Crown relative to last night.

Seemed like the same ending they introduced last week except with the addition of the frame on "The Snail" in the closer. Though, that seemed to malfunction when trying to unravel it. Also, a generally mediocre run for BD from what I saw. Which I think bodes well for them because I believe Bloo had one of the best runs of the season. And yet, BD still won.
When is the last time somebody said BD had a good run? Seriously, seems like every single show the comment is "BD won but had a shaky run." I'm not complaining because it's a sign of BDs strength if true and I'm all for that, obviously.

Loved the show tonight. Been 5 years since I'd seen a show. Took my whole family with me. Quick thoughts on a few shows.
Mandarins- Loved the show. Crowd was on their feet at the end. Pulling for them.
Bluecoats- Respect their performers, but not a fan of the show concept and design at all.
Crown- No original thoughts here. Drumline ain't it. Rest of corps is excellent, but they don't have a show to maximize their talent.
BD- What else is there to say? Just a better overall product. Period. They just look and sound like no other.

I'm heading to the show tonight. Can't wait. I'm in Miami so I don't see many shows. Have't seen a DCI show since NightBeat 2017.
