  1. I can unequivocally state that when I participated in DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS, the only sounds coming from the field were drums and BUGLES. Nothing else....... Just pure sound.... UNEQUIVOCALLYIf I wanted band instruments, I would joined a marching band
  2. The Freelancers Mini Corps played Navel Hymn for warmup this past weekend. They use G Bugles. Or at least their baritone section does as I saw some two valves there.
  3. Want to buy a working King K-90. Must be in general working condition, especially valve and slide mechanisms. I can deal with the dents and ripples as I have access to ball kit and radial equipment to smooth as best possible. Thanks Corby
  4. I have a "grandfathered" unlimited T-mobile 3G Data plan that tethers to my Laptop. I subscribed to DCA Live Prelims on the Fan Network and watched on Wireless internet for about 5 hours (got tired and stopped waitng for rain delay). I had about three almost data timeouts, ie picture got a little fuzzy but audio was not not affected. I consumed 1.5 gb during that time period which included regular browsing and watching the DCP Prelim Blog. Again, I was on a "3G" device (HTC HD2) so I imagine that T-mo 4G, or any other 4G services should perform better. I live in the Columbia Mo area and I can see the cell tower looking out my window....... I just want to say that the Fan Network is such a great platform. I have seen arguments that having the Fan Network decreases ticket sales. But for me, even being from Columbia, I could not afford a trip to Indy for DCI Champs, let alone Annapolis so DCI and DCA still benefited from my subscription rather zero dollars for tickets I could not buy..... Best of both worlds in my opinion. Corby
  5. Yep... That is it.... I am officially dumb.... Corby
  6. Did DCA produce a 2012 version of "This is DCA" Championsip time of your life video montage? Did not find it on Youtube, or I am dumb.... Corby
  7. Is Halsey echo chamber, mean Halsey Field House still used for sporting events? I remember going there in the late 70's with my uncle to watch basketball. I recall a public entrance behind Dock Street or around there, but of course life was different then. Security concerns rule that entrance out or even the whole academy. I recall it being a big huge building. Probably because I was a kid and everything looked bigger back then. So do I&E on Dock street and move Minicorps inside????
  8. Hi ozarkbuger, I would love to be a part of BAA. But I am a baritone/trombone player. I also have ended up becoming a needed part time contra, well really tuba, player which has taken my embouchure in the opposite direction. Where I would like to profess to be a soprano player, my soprano squeaks more than playing the 24 notes for taps...... Working on it though. I saw the Bugles Across America event at 2011 DCA Allumni Spectacular and was impressed by the effort. Looked like a lot of fun and great camaraderie. Corby
  9. I hope so.... 2012 is the 150 years anniversary of TAPS!!!! I might even join a corps so I can participate in it. Who is close to Columbia MO?
  10. I have played all brands of bugles through the years. What is it about Dynasty bugles that makes them hated and horrible by so many? I am a baritone player and found Dynasty's to be fine. I mean even from the 2 valve Dynasty baris and euph to 3 valve did not play any particularly different, better or worse, from Kings to Kanstuls. All horns hae their idiosyncrasies... Do not about Bb, as I am a G bugler. Just curious..
  11. Was it the person in the Freelancers? I spoke to him at I&E and got to play the horn extensively as well. According to the guy, the K-90 needed a valve job because prior owner had the wrong 2nd valve in it (Don't know how that happens?!?), plus the front tubing coming into the valve was falling apart, which was a common K-90 problem. Could not locate a replacement valve so he had Kanstul convert the horn. He said the 3 valve conversion kit was initially for the Olds Ultratone. It was used because it fit within the K-90 better than the Grande configuration, it allowed for the traditional hand over valve/lead pipe configuration rather than the forward wrap around loop lead pipes found on current marching tubas (except for system blues) and time/cost ($1,400) was of the essence. I am a long time Olds Ultratone player and found the smaller bore to be no problem in the tonal quality and sound output. I guess it is what you are used to playing. But it is a fantastic conversion for the K-90. Beats paying $6,000 + for a G Contra.
