  1. I hear ya! Argonne's line was SMOKIN' at the VFW Nationals in '71. WOW!! Still sounds fantastic today. A related item: Digging through some old drum corps records recently, I came across the album entitled "5.0." It's a recording of the Argonne Rebels and Madison Scouts from 1971, the year both corps scored a perfect 5.0 in the old content-analysis caption... the only two hornlines to get that perfect mark that year. 2. ....of food: Saturday pre-show dinner, at Ravioli House: Fried ravioli for appetizer: Awesome. Eggplant rolantini w/spaghetti for dinner: Very, very tasty. Sunday breakfast, at Rio Diner: Blueberry pancakes. Outstanding! Fran
  3. To avoid any controversy like that which was stirred up recently by a DCA show review on DCP, I will limit my review to the food and beverages consumed during our Syracuse weekend: Friday Lunch: Had the "Phoenix Burger" at Knoebels Amusement Park in PA, en route to Syracuse. Very tasty. For dessert, a peanut butter sundae with vanilla soft-serve ice cream. Words cannot describe how good this was!!!! Friday Dinner: Quick stop at a Wendy's on the way north. Friday Evening Beverages (at the hotel): Consumed several Yuengling Traditional Lagers while swapping drum corps war stories with my buddy Rick Roberts from the Brigadiers and other members of the Brigs. As usual, the Yuenglings were crisp and bold, with a clean finish. Saturday Breakfast: A late breakfast after sleeping in. God, I love not marching (LOL). Ham and cheese croissant at the hotel's Au Bon Pain eatery. Nice. And a good fresh-brewed iced tea to jump-start the heart. Dinner: The grilled salmon and swordfish combo at the Colorado Mine Company. Very good. Dessert was an absolutely fantastic apple crisp, served warm with vanilla ice cream. Beverage was pink lemonade. Pre-Show Snack (at stadium): A Coney (which, for the uninitiated, is a hot dog made of white pork, with a unique seasoning... a Syracuse delicacy.) Outstanding!!!! Post-Show Munchies: (at Ground Round near hotel): The Peppercorn Parmesan chicken sandwich. Juicy. Washed it all down with a Yuengling Lager. The missus and I then split a plate of Cinnamon Dippers (hot dough wedges covered with cinnamon sugar, with ice cream and hot fudge for dipping) for dessert. Sunday Breakfast (at hotel): "breakfast special" of scrambled eggs, home fries and toast. Eggs good, toast crisp, home fries OK, but nowhere near the quality of good, New Jersey diner home fries. Iced tea to drink. Dinner: Soup-and-sandwich combo at a Cracker Barrel in PA, very tasty as usual. And some iced tea to help prop my eyes open for the rest of the drive home. Oh yeah... the show Saturday night...almost forgot. The corps looked good! See y'all at DCAs in Scranton! Fran
  4. In light of all this controversy regarding show reviews, I promise that if I review our upcoming Syracuse weekend I will only comment on the food and beverages. Fran
