  1. Obviously to get attention and hear himself talk. Or is that too devilish an editorial?
  2. might those "embellishments" be the spaces where the mirrors are to be attached? I noticed that even the snare line had those "embellishments/plus signs." A cape reveal, perhaps toward the end of the show, would be a great GE impact moment for the finale.
  3. Note that none of the black baldrics have the mirrors (yet?) Perhaps these are to be added later in the season to dazzle us? Perhaps the reason the corps used regular school busses was to save up to purchase the mirrors? Or are the rumors of the Euphonium crashes during the up-tempo jazz runs and run throughs still too dangerous to risk broken mirrors and 7 years bad luck?:ph34r:/>/>
  4. “Deep fried paradise,” booth 17 – Because life is too short to not eat a corn dog, deep fried pickles and deep fried Oreos from the Legends Performing Arts Association booth, right? Right" Now we know what sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald!!!!???:rolleyes:/> cited in today's DCI news; quick link: http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2013/06/festival_of_the_arts_2013_john.html
  5. Seems that Regiment is already tied on one sheet with Crown: bad weather delaying completion of show drill. I hear that wet slick fields when attempted have put quite the dent in the Buick line :shutup:/>/>
  6. But it does happen. Ironically, sometimes it is because "the MM there sweating and gasping for air" isn't doing what the others did or the way it was done by "they [who] were there once themselves." But then again, there are people who would put oats in autos because that's what we always fed the horses.
  7. LIKE IT! And it's probably not yet been done by some UIL or BOA band....yet.
  8. 'Lean on Me" could be a very sweet number. I am hoping for something as rich as "When a Man Loves a Woman" by what's that corps?
  9. I am not a financial accountant or someone like the poster Garfield who keeps extensive detailed scrutinous records of such statistics. I am speaking though from the number of posters on DCP who keep remarking that they are cutting back on the number of shows they will be attending and the number of tickets they will be buying for themselves, family and friends with the sentiment similar to "if you have seen them once, you've seen enough. I'll get the DVD to watch the other times." Following the posters of DCP is not merely a factor of the down economy or tight economy and how much ticket prices have inflated over the years. Even the man who runs the FN as wonderful as it is for those who can't travel admits it has but 5k subscriptions worldwide. You may be speaking in a macro-economic scope looking at bottom lines, etc. However, you'll have to grant me that Indianapolis isn't Montreal's numbers and is only close to Madison's....
  10. I will grant you "I am the one and only", ha, ha...but the jist of this thread is the same private conversation of a small number of posters.
  11. Am I the only one getting the vibe that the real reason for this thread and it's endless continuance by some alums debating others is merely to keep the Blue Devils name out there in lieu of any official news about the 2013 show like the other corps? Just saying...
  12. as someone submitted to me yesterday, Mirror, Mirror on my breast, the mighty chevron is our crest. Wonder what this summer may bring, we'll kill another drum major if it means a ring!
  13. As brilliant an observer Bruckner8 may be, even he doesn't render infallible papal statements. Statistics are numbers, not always future facts. I'd love to see a surprise. The lack of surprises in scoring contest to contest, and too often at finals is one of the turn offs to audiences the longer DCI grows old. The older DCI gets, the fewer surprises we see. When fans can predict the outcome before the show is even held, tickets stop being bought. Yes, be realistic with the memberships, but I'd like some amazing turned on performances from those with hopes that anything can happen in America.
  14. Wallace, This Cadet fan thanks you for your contribution. Don't let one or a few dissuade you, even if it's the head guy. Remember he hasn't been there for the whole EIGHT DECADES of the corps' existence. The tradition of the corps and its success has included many, many individuals- most who made their contribution despite some persons in grouchy moods or playing kingdom keepers. Just whisper into a different ear, preferably the ear of someone whom that grouch listens. Thank you. FHNSAB.
  15. Are you referring to "Hashgate" or something else? Both having witnessed the corps on the field for performance and then being pulled off, the penalty assessment, the review, the booing from a segment of the local crowd, the tensions resulting all must have had some affect on the performers who still gave a great performance which was judged to be just not enough and effectively gave them second place; and second, having spoken at depth with many of the corps members after and since who feel their edge had lost its bite and that they had to regenerate their emotional motivations.. As much as we like to think we train kids to be almost robotic in consistency for performance mindset, the performers are still humans who experience feelings, ups and downs.
  16. Isn't that for the "demand" box on the visual sheets?:thumbup:/>
  17. Ahem! Not to be vain but. it's DCI so I get my licensing dollar: from this same thread... drilltech1, on 30 May 2013 - 09:55 AM, said:last year, many people didn't comprehend or understand the show. This season, we won't be able to see the forest without the trees???? :rolleyes:/>/>/>/> and also previously mentioned on this thread was that the tree idea was swiped/borrowed/lifted/mimics what a Texas band did in BOA and UIL years ago. (but that's like the chairs from Les Chatelaines, etc.)
  18. Another precinct is heard from with a fine contribution: Mirror, Mirror on my breast, the mighty chevron is our crest. Wonder what this summer may bring, we'll kill another drum major if it means a ring!
  19. It's my understanding from info that the corps has finished the ballad which occurs later in the show. Another understanding is that they will march what they have learned and play the rest. Of course, weather in Johnstown is always a factor. For those who can't wait, the corps has an all-access snippet of the show and about drill on its Fb page with commentary by Patrick Duncan. He's very good, but he's no Allison, if you get my drift...
  20. These news announcements from BK spark me to think of their show theme and the circle of Life (it's ups and downs but always ongoing.) I recall previous seasons when they and Troopers had to make similar adjustments. This year also saw Surf and Cadets assisting during Hurricane Sandy. Plus who will forget the great work of the Madison Scouts helping fill sandbags and removing damaging flotsam during the Spring Training the year of the Baraboo (Wisconsin) floods. Great people those drum corps folks, especially the members!
