  1. but, "g" was the standard key, not optional....
  2. notice that they don't call it a bugle..... and, the "g" tuning slide is optional.......
  3. Not unless you promise to wear it and have a photo of that on a t shirt...then again maybe not at all... should we open a poll to see how many girls would be interested in a genuine Kanstul thong? that would be too scary a sight for most people.....
  4. lol! it sort-of sounds like the french version of "the toileteers" :)
  5. supposedly, the ml6v mouthpiece is supplied with deg mellophones. nobody knows where it comes from, it just shows up in the cases...... new toy: thrashed deg contra, courtesy of the renegades. i figured they needed the $$$ before going to dca this year..........
  6. in the 70's the local pbs station didn't air the program live, but they did air the entire top 12, several times, in september and october.
  7. corps originally switched from lacquered finishes to chrome plate. this was because the early nitrocellulose lacquer that was used on brass instruments wasn't very durable. the switch to silver was due to several factors, mostly at the manufacturing level. chrome plating is a more toxic process than silver plating, and is prone to peeling if not done properly. silver costs more than chrome, but the process is cheaper. even though modern lacquer is very durable, corps were used to the chrome look so the switch to silver was pretty much automatic. there was never any rule regarding horn finish, so any finish should be legal even today. i imagine a fiberglass contra would be legal as long as it was the same shoulder-carry configuration as a brass one....
  8. i too was taught in school that a euphonium is smaller than a baritone, the "euphonium" in question actually is an alto horn, similar to the old king trombonium but smaller. i came to my senses in high school when i had a real music teacher who knew what he was talking about.. :)
  9. i've owned a pair of kelly low brass mouthpieces (both white, 12c and 6-1/2al) for a year now. true, they don't have the same sound as a brass mouthpiece but they don't sound bad and they are nice if you're playing outdoors in the fall or winter. i keep the 12c in my car for buzzing on the way to & from work :) they're perfect for a pep band at a football game or for marching a parade. for competition use, sound counts so i would use a real mouthpiece.
  10. what about the toileteers, from flushing, ny?? great name.. :)
  11. teal sound. teal is a color. carolina gold. gold is a color
  12. traditionally, scv and bd required their members to move in earlier than most other corps. i don't know if it's that strict anymore..
  13. actually, they were AMERICAN COMMAND by HERITAGE and were actually made by BENGE. the way i understand it, after designing the ultratone II line olds decided to stop making bugles. zig took the design to benge who also decided to stop making bugles, so eventually he ended up working for king until king also decided to stop making bugles.. so around 1990 he started his own company.
  14. you can download a fingering chart from deg's website.
  15. just inherited a messed-up deg 3-valve baritone.. it actually doesn't have that many dents but it's case is mildewed and the wood is rotted away, the 2nd valve clicks and 2 of the valve buttons are missing.... it's a very nice shade of brown tarnish, probably will take me at least a month to get it back into shape...... i'll take some before and after pics :) does anybody make a gig bag for marching baritones?
  16. yep, 7 days and no response... guess it wasn't that funny... :(
  17. is it scottish? :) ...i couldn't resist....

  19. now, if you were thinking about buying your own kanstul g baritone, which one would you get: the standard baritone kbb-190 or the baritone grande kbg-191? they're very close in price, which one is more common?
  20. yeah, but where do you get one for baritone??
  21. i've got a contra mouthpiece around here somewhere...a bach 18 even
  22. haven't seen any bloopers on tape, but i might have been one one back in 1977.... marksmen were having their home colorguard show (i don't think it was called winterguard yet, that came later) and corps members were required to work the show. i was a "runner" , someone who picks up paperwork from the judges and runs it over to the people next door who tally the results. i had just finished picking up all of the sheets from the judges when the next guard begin their show. i was walking down the rear of the court when one of the rifles lost it and the rifle hit me really ******* hard on my left ankle.. i dropped like a rock and all i remember after it happened was being dragged down a hallway somewhere. i still don't know the name of the 'guard that tried to kill me... i had this really cool bruise for almost 3 months...
