  6. Besides the usual chartered bus and the plane ride home, VK will be touring via train from CA to TX this year.
  7. Thank you so much Terri. We really appreciate your help. I know how difficult it is with the current recession. My family too is also "surviving" on one income. Nancy
  8. Less than one thousand raised so far. Please help VK by contributing today. Donate Here
  9. How could you forget the '79 appearance in "Agriculture U.S.A."? Then there was that near miss in "Americathon". We didn't get the gigbecause they didn't have enough teachers for the corps members (SAG rules). Here's the Maude episode: Velvet Knights on Maude '74
  10. Thanks Dale. I heard of a campaign from those who were in the pit getting their donations together. It would be great to have the individual years and sections on board supporting the current members. I for one would love to see a 70's Knight's logo on the back too. Of course we're not limiting the dedications to alumni and family. We more than welcome donations from businesses too. Thanks to everyone for showing your support. Time is running out and our goal hasn't been met. Please consider making a donation today, no matter how small. Thank you.
  11. As the Velvet Knights gear up to take off on their 2010 tour, on the way to DCI World Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, we are looking for your help and support to make this happen. Since our fielding of the corps in 2007, we have traveled over 20,000 miles across the US, proudly making semi finals in 2008, and finals in 2009. WE NEED YOUR help. Our small equipment trailer just cannot handle one more summer. It has gone back and forth to Indianapolis twice, traveled to Dayton Ohio for the WGI World Championships twice. It has traveled up the Pacific Northwest Coast once, and all over California. Quite simply, the old trailer, though repaired several times, can't handle the growing load of the corps. We have the perfect opportunity to purchase a trailer that fits our needs with ample space and ready for use. The price is $11,000.00, and we need to act fast to secure it, before it is sold to someone else. We have inspected the trailer this past weekend, and it is in beautiful condition............just needs our name on the sides! Please click on the link at the bottom of the page to download our flyer, and donation forms or use PayPal. No donation is too small. For everyone that donates $250.00 or more, you will not only be helping the corps, but you will have a 12 x 12" space on the trailer, where you can personalize a message, such as your name, business, your family's name, or even dedicate this to a member of your family that has passed away. Thank You VK Website/Trailer Campaign
  12. Thought others might get a kick out of seeing this episode on You Tube. It's titled Maude Meets the Duke. Part 2/3. VK on Maude
  13. "Back in the day" my corps, which consisted mostly of local kids, practiced three days a week. The daily rehearsals didn't start till school was out (it was only then we began to learn the drill). "Imports" weren't usually there (and weren't expected to show up), until school let out. They were often housed at local homes. We didn't have camps. Now-a-days,monthly camps are used to learn the music and go over basics. Guard perfects technique and might be learning portions of the show. Some corps have drill ready and will begin teaching. The dailies are all about perfection. VK has had a mix this year of camps and weekly (Sunday) rehearsals. Daily rehearsals start the end of June.
  14. I know there were sex cymbal lines in '87 and '88. Don't know of any other years. Jen Swanek, VK's cymbal tech '09 and '10 is a former sex cymbal.
  15. Yes they did. By the mid-seventies it did start to dwindle a bit though.
  16. I just wanted to know how many came at the first championship in all classes (wasn't it A, B, C, All Girl classes separated then?) and compare it to tday's numbers. I know that were MANY more that didn't go to the first DCI. Southern California had a fairly large circuit and only one went to the first DCI competition.
  17. Oh. I thought that all girls etc were in different classes...
  18. How many drum corps were around in the early 70's? How many competed (in all divisions) at the first DCI championship?
  19. Dates are the same but the venue has been changed. VILLA PARK HS 18042 Taft Ave Villa Park CA 92861 See you there!
