  1. Is anyone going to the Ft. Edwards/Glens Falls show? I'm hoping to be there!
  2. SUTA - definetly glad to see another Brigs/PR alum. Have a great season - I may see you, as I'm hoping to volunteer for a few days! Mary
  3. So so sad about this news, and also feeling a bit guilty. Who else but Brigs former members will save the corps? We all have good reasons to not march - hell, I had 2 kids in 2 years, which is why I wasn't there the past few years! But now it's time to repay all that the organization did for us, and get back there to bring out an amazing corps next year! I'll be there - who else is with me???
  4. I haven't been on DCP in quite some time, but when I heard the sad, sad news of Bruce's passing, I wanted to feel a connection with my Brigadiers family. Bruce always had a smile to offer, even when things weren't going well. He always had the time to pat you on the back and let you know you were working hard and doing a good job. Bruce wanted to know how you were doing, and really listened when you answered. I remember when I brought my newborn daughter to Brigadiers rehearsal for the first and Bruce greeted her as if he were a proud grandpa. My heart is with my Brigs family and my condolences to Bruce's family. Bruce will be looking down on the corps from his place of peace in heaven. Enjoy your much-deserved rest Bruce. 5. LOL - my daughter has a Little Tikes drum, a play trumpet, and a play flag - she loves all of them :) She always picks one of them up when we have DCI dvd's on! I have high hopes for a horn player, of course ;-) What age does Colt Cadets start at?
  6. Hotel provided child care is with some random person the hotel has contracted with - there is no requirement for them to have childcare training, a degree or a license. They are also a stranger in my hotel room alone with my child. I'm not comfortable with that. A daycare facility has trained individuals, toys, equipment and experience. I'm much more comfortable with that.
  7. I honestly thought it was a good idea and would benefit many people, including DCI getting more paying butts in the seats. I'm not looking for anyone to pay for it for me - I'm certainly willing to pay - for God's sake I'm paying $125 for each seat as it is! Wasn't looking to start a huge controversy..... I will continue to pursue this idea and attempt to contact people at DCI to see what they think. Hopefully something positive will come of it, and if not, well - I'll continue to bring my child to Finals and use my judgement as to what she can sit through (not much) and take turns w/my husband keeping her occupied out of earshot.
  8. I'm not asking for daycare at the stadium - that would be logistically difficult at best. I'm asking if it would be POSSIBLE for DCI to contract with a local provider, so I knew they would be trustworthy and aware of the exact arrangements (late night care). I think you jump to the worst suggesting lawsuits, and that is why licensed providers have INSURANCE anyway. I personally do not feel that because I have a young child, that my life must end and I must hide in my house until she is older so I don't offend or disrupt someone else, especially when my husband and I are extremely careful NOT to distrupt others. Apparently you took no time to read how we handled Finals, because we did not disturb anyone with our method and were still able to enjoy a Regiment championship. Take your negativity elsewhere, because it's neither helpful nor welcome here.
  9. I'm not sure why this is such a personal attack towards me, but no, I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my 15 month old for several days 12 hours away in NY, not to mention my husband's family is either too old or lives in ITALY, and my parents work full time. Leaving my child for a few hours at a safe, licensed center - a much better option to me.
  10. Personally, I would only consider it an option if it was a licensed, well-established local facility. It was suggested that we hire a local college student this year at Bloomington, but I wasn't comfortable with that. I can see it being a mutually beneficial relationship for DCI and whatever facility agreed. DCI could see an increase in ticket sales, and the center could make some extra cash.
  11. For some of us this isn't an option. That's why I started this topic. I'm trying to find an option for other parents like myself who do not want to inconvenience or disturb others in the stands, but want to enjoy watching their corps perform.
  12. New topic formed so this one can return to it's original purpose! :)
  13. In another thread it has been discussed that if DCI contracted with one (or a few) local, licensed day care centers to provide care during Finals, many would jump at this opportunity (me included!) This thread is to further discuss ideas related to this so the other thread can return to it's original topic :) So...who lives in Indy and knows of trusted centers that may be interested? Who thinks this is a feasible (and great!) idea???
  14. That sounds fantastic! I would definetly take advantage of this! There is a year to set this up - if lots of parents contact DCI, I bet this could happen!
  15. Well - I'm glad I missed the sarcasm :) I have already written an email to DCI inquiring about something like this after I posted - I really do think it would be a huge help to parents of young children. Even if it was tried at a large regional before committing to something at Finals...I think it's worth a try!
