According to a member, the uniforms are literally "cut-outs" from past year's uniforms. BIts and pieces are visible from Tempus Blue (the black sewn floral patterns on the waist sash), Ghostlight (bright yellow FMJ sleeves, vertical sash that "cut" through downwards to form the tail), and Metamorph (blue Savine sleeves). Quite a pallet of a throwback.

Interestingly great idea.. I can now see all the pieces.. even the blue upper body part looks like from cabaret voltaire

Just witnessed Joni Mitchell performed in DCI and my heart is full 🥹 I'm more of a visual guy and thought the show design looked very pleasing on the field and like another hit for BD. The colors of the guard uniform are varied and they do pop, as do the props that have floral or cactus patterns like the ones Pulse had in their show this year. They are attached to stairs that reminded me of their 2017 show, or was it 2014. The stairs will probably be used to project the brass or percussion at some point but I did not see any use tonight. The colors all serve their role in sharply contrasting against a green field, just like how Matisse cut-outs are supposed to look I suppose. The performance was short (no closer or the Kenton traditional jazz piece) but sonorous. The horns really hit. The 7700 altitude no doubt had a lung-enlarging effect over the past few weeks they've been here. I needed oxygen mask just climbing the stairs at that ginormous stadium. There is a really robust percussion break in the opener and a mega break near the middle of the show. Reminded me of Tempus Blue but I guess that is just their style and the way they like to present that section.  On that subject, I don't believe Tempus Blue at this time and place last year had that level of performance, so they are really hitting all cylinders already by that gauge. And for warm up they are again playing the Ditty and "The Float." Pat Seidling who acted as emcee for the night announced the number of members at 185. Again, that has to include back ups. A full picture of the age-outs were taken at the after show festivities. I counted probably 60-70 of them in that picture. So about half the corps. I should mention that prior to the full corps performance the corps performed a stand still version of When A Man Loves A Woman, and JoJo, along side the Conn-Selmer artists Nader/Thompson, Kellin Hanas, Dani Markham, Art Cruz, Gary Gopar, and Cisco Dimas. It was spectacular. Look them up if you haven't heard of them. Some up and comers and some certified platinum album stars. I took videos of the pre-show and the full corps performance. All in all it was well worth the drive from Denver.

    Thank you.. Appreciate

    OK! MM...

Let's see.. The multi-color palette i expected, similar to 2010, 2012 artistic design to match the theme of Henry Matisse Cut outs.. The difference is the colors are included in the main jackets this time around, with the cut out arts in details.  It will be changed off as it is now customary for BD to do. I do like the under piece in BD traditional Blue color, very simple with pink long sash thing across the body paints a nice contrast. I still don't know how i feel about it overall, have to wait and see it on the field together.

However Bd Uni always still visually works with the show and on the field so lets see.

The color-guards look good, but i kind of wanted something else Lol.. The details seem like they will pop on the field.

Not drum corps related, but back in 1999 I was stationed aboard the USS Germantown (LSD-42) in Sasebo Japan.

My ship went on a three-month CARAT (Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training) Cruise which took us all over Southeast Asia.

We were in Pattaya Beach Thailand, and me and some of my Sailor/Marine buddies decided to go paintballing one afternoon. We were in the Thai Jungle (Literally) at this amazing paintball course, and I got stung on the shoulder by an Asian Giant Hornet.

I remember the severe pain of the sting, having difficulty breathing. Next thing I knew I was in a hospital bed. I was told I had lost consciousness, my blood pressure dropped, and I was airlifted to a hospital in Bangkok two hours away. Spent nine days in the hospital before I was released, to catch up with my ship which was now in Kota Kinabalu Malaysia.

At the time I knew nothing about the Asian Giant Hornet, and I quickly learned they are the deadliest Hornet in the world responsible for hundreds of deaths every year all over Asia.

Needless to say I was VERY VERY lucky.

    WOW!

The music this year is going to be insane. Right when I thought they couldn't top Moon River and Tank, BD once again says "Hold my beer."

She did this cover long after her original  studio version. Her vocal more mature and a richer tone.

    The Original Studio version:

Love Both.. There are other covers out there that are just as immaculate. Like the one that Scott shared on Instagram.

Exactly two weeks until the Final Boss gives us our first look at the 2023 show!

    LFG!! DO IT UP DEVILS!!

    DO IT UP DEVILS!! Indeed..

Counting down the days waiting for the reveal. I promise myself to not peek at any spring training videos of The Devils that might be available, not even the preview show, only the music. I want that first impression on July 1st.

The music is what i want to hear so badly, with the exception of the two original pieces are not yet known, the arrangements; of that grand sweeping, cinematic big hit of, Caves by Cody fry. To the very fun, high energetic Jojo Jojo Bizarre Adventure pieces, and that heavenly ethereal, layered beautiful ballad of, Joni Mitchelle. With keeping the momentum of the high energetic, electric flow with, Tesseract, a transition to touching the pass with, Incident in Jazz, and closing out with another grand cinematic, amazing fanfare of, Grand Canyon Fanfare. Been listening to a playlist of the show rep, also with few other reps of corps. Really thrilling season.

Happy DCI 2023 Spring training season

Hell Will Be Empty Again and THE DEVILS WILL BE HERE!

    DO IT UP DEVILS!!!

    GO MANDARINS!!! @Chief Guns

Looking at the sheer number of comments, it got the attention of the JoJo fandome which if you know something about anime and manga is huge

Very true. It will be interesting when the season premier, knowing no matter what BD does, there will always be those who is going to crap on BD Lol. I really want All corps to come out smoking hot, especially the top 6, Yeah but all corps, making BD summer an harder fight to even win. Regardless of being a BD homer, I want to see fierce competition from beginning till the end. With BD coming out on top of course Lol.

That 5th place percussion had more to do with it than the closer.

But Bloo was the best that year. They won fair and square, no excuses.

Yeah. I don’t believe anything any other corps could do to change Bloo winning outcome. They were poised and running away with it, to be fair I my honest opinion.

I speculated to a friend the other day that it might be a Matisse cut-paper theme, but also thought it might have been a misdirect. This has the potential to be much stronger visually than what they did last year and I'll bet they will have the members body shaping to mimic the paper shapes, etc.

My hope is they keep it very graphically clean and crisp, like his artwork, and don't fuss it up with overly photoshoped flags, etc. Could be gorgeous and pop off the field.

Trivia: what other corps used the Matisse cut-paper period for inspiration?

Answer: 1993 Phantom Regiment. The ballad flags are based on his "Icarus" piece.

gonna watch it right now lol.. PR1993
