  1. I know I'm just a grumpy old man now, but I would LOVE to see them go back to their roots and do Southern Jazz again........not a throwback show but maybe some hints of the Georgia Fanfare......I remember in 87 we placed extremely well early in the season, but in the final stretch other corps added visual effects and tweaked things and Spirit got leap frogged in the home stretch. Easier drill also lends to higher scores early in the summer, with some corps not really mastering their show till the second half. I am hopeful again for next year. I long to see them in the top 8 again soon.......the 80s were my active years and Spirit and Devils 81-86 are my favorite shows ever. Maybe the 007 Velvet Knights too 😉
  2. Oh good. Glad I misunderstood. I loved the fact that back in the day a late season charge could land you in the finals. Would suck to have to make up for low early show scores especially when lots of complicated drill and scores don’t really lock in till later. Thanks.
  3. I’ve been out of it a few years but...... it’s not JUST the prelims and finals score now that get you in but a running culmutive score throughout the season? That’s the impression I got from an article on DCI.org. If true, that would mean it would be really hard to get the average up unless other corps scores DROP. Is this correct?
  4. @ThirdValvesAreForWimps LOVE the screen name! I am still unsure of the show, It did not really GRAB me but that's not on the kids, I wish nothing but the best for SoA and I know the members are busting their butt and giving it their all. Looking forward to seeing it all progress and evolve over the coming weeks. Best of luck entering the field for competition this week!
  5. Amazing news. Is it being used in the show? Have the show charts become public yet?
  6. I’m always happy to hear any Ott stuff, but haven’t they played in parking lots and during retreat most years?
  7. Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash/Eric Whitacre, The Doors, Polyphia, Bill Evans, and Here Come the Mummies...………..I will wait and see, but this doesn't excite me. Crosses fingers that the arrangements change my mind.
  8. Welcome Dad. Hope you and your son have an amazing year with SoA. I’m happy to finally see the announcement of the show, when can someone actually say what the book consists of? Ken
  9. True, I think I had blocked out tat last year was 21st. I remember between 77-78 they went from 23rd to 6th so ANYTHING can happen in Summer 2018.........SoA will always be my first crush!
  10. Well..........they broke into the 80's last night. Here's to them leaving everything they have on the field tonight.
  11. Any thoughts, predictions, or reflections headed into prelims tomorrow?
  12. Is the tour still set up in two legs like back in the day where they have like 5-7 days to make adjustments then hot the road again for a final push to finals?
  13. Yes I remember MUCH more hype leading into last season. This off season was extremely quiet. I rewatched the show via the new video link with a different angle and the drill is impressive. Arrangements are growing on me as well. I really feel as if they are finally headed in the right direction this year. It had been a long time since I dared to say that out loud.........fingers are crossed!
  14. Yeah I think I saw the same video. Hornline and drum line really had a great sound. Bass drums really sounded good. I don't think I would go home humming any of the selections......very technical.
  15. Really hope they can get back to the finals soon.
  16. Things have been a might quiet in here since finals........anything going on? Plotting and scheming yet for 2017?
  17. Well, I do hope the kids have had a good season and are in good spirits now that the season has come to an end. Behind the scenes I also hope we are on better footing than this time last year. Look forward to seeing what's next.
  18. Would love to see that! /runs to YouTube/
  19. Living and working in London now I find it hard to attend. BTW MAD props to you in you marched Blue Devils for the TO and One More Time Chuck Corea show in 82. Blue Devils and Spirit were my life back in the 80's and those two charts were simply AMAZING.
  20. I just went back and watched the run through video again, and nothing about it really reminds me of 1980's Spirit so I don't know what all the talk is other than the show is titled "Georgia". 79-89 is when I followed them fanatically. I hope nothing but the best for them this year and am looking forward to see how they do. I would have loved less runs and more melody.....but I'm an old fart now. GET OFF MY LAWN!
