Well, its not exactly as cut and dried as that, You know Joe ?.  Covid in 2020-2021 ring a bell for you ? When Shah/ Jackson were there their last competition season in 2019, BK was 7th. That was their last gig in DCI, before they went to Crown after 2022 season. Maybe in retrospect as I think this through, Shah/ Jackson did not go directly to Carolina Crown from BK, and instead utilized the name of Jeff Sacktig a marching alum of Cadets ( 89 ) and visual designer at Cadets being " poached " by Carolina Crown from the Cadets for the 2017 season. But I see the difference. Sacktig is probably a better example of immediate season to season " poaching ", which is what I think you are looking for here😊.

I can even remember some Crown enthusiasts saying Jeff was an upgrade to their visual program at the time.

Why Mr. Anova, you must realize that it is only considered "poaching" of the staff in question go to BAC.

In fact, some people here actually still refer to Boston as "Crown North", some 8 years after that staff move.

I still haven't recovered from BD "poaching" Jay Murphy from us in 1981.

Actually, I would say it is only considered poaching if the migrating staff is from Crown. No one even remembers the recruitment from Cadets. Why isn’t Boston called Cadets of New England?

They could do a take on the LIGHT aide of camelot next year. The early days, with arthur and gwen before the affair. more merlin. More like the musical. A prequel, if you will. They can start with the pieces spread all around the kingdom, and end with the whole table assembled!

It certainly would save on the cost of props!

  4. So correct me if I am wrong (being wrong is my natural state)

I thought we have moved on from the dark days of the G7 proposal.

But for karma to be satisfied, Cadets, BD, Bloo, Crown, Phantom Regiment, Cavaliers, as well as SCV should all die ignominiously and have their corps halls salted like Carthage? Would that be what karma demands in 2023?

Wow … I never realized that vengeance is the prime motivator for certain corps.

    Vengeance is small and unsatisfying.

Maybe it’s time for me to sell my Super 3 tickets, stop donating, and call it a day.

As I have posted in the past, I will always regard the G7 conspiracy as the ignition point of the genesis of the current BAC organization.    When that whole thing went down, many stakeholders in Boston were so enraged, so furious at the attempt, that they swore they would do whatever it took to not be "less equal" ever again. Not coincidentally,  if you go to Inspire's website,  and click on BOD Bios, you will see first hand the kind of people that are the backbone of the organization.....and of 50 members, more than 40 are BAC alums, including many who marched during the lean years of the 80s and 90s.  Most were broke college kids in those days, and many of them are now self-made men and women who are leaders of industry and finance today.  Some of the conspirators have already been caught up by karma.   For the others,  it is only a matter of time.

####. This sounds like a curse. What sort of Wicked Game are you playing?

Gotcha. So it feels like you want to hurt SCV because they hurt you.  And rather than working with them in a way that the organization deems acceptable, you prefer to torch the organization down since they didn’t interview you in 2019 or take you up on your offers in the last year or two (based on previous comments in SCV alumni FB).

Generally speaking, I’ve followed your content since SCV announced last year and mostly agree with your points. But the approach of torching isn’t going to help your opportunity to convince SCV you can help them.  Unless your end goal is helping to officially end SCV ever fielding a corps again.

I call it the Medea Syndrome.

Which has nothing to do with the G7 idea, but probably more to do with key staff moving on.  Four of this year's top 5 are still doing quite well.

Except three of those top five were bamboozled by the director of the fourth, to their regret. GH stepped way beyond what the other 6 of 7 agreed to in principle.

As fun as it is to dogpile on vanguard, maybe stay on topic? Also, super inside baseball stuff, but a key player had a death in the immediate family this last weekend. My guess is that had something to do with the cancellation but it is only a guess.

I don’t see this as dogpiling on SCV, and a lot of us learned something new about their culture.

I can see you are pretty new here, so you might as well know, regular posters will hop down bunny trails from time to time. Trying to keep us focused 100% on the topic is like herding, well bunnies.

Once Labor Day rolls around, you can bet we’ll be very focused on the big moves.

We, and sadly, I include myself in this as I'm sure others won't hesitate to... we can be so mean to each other. Take me out of it and I have so, so many stories. 😔

How 'bout them Cowboys though? 😬 Or literally any other corps?

In my case, the corps took more drastic measures … I would march with them … and then they’d fold

Bloo 23 was kinda about drugs. I mean I interpreted it as “Alice in Wonderland” -esque. And that story is basically about drugs.

And I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. I enjoyed this year’s show immensely. But yeah, it’s pretty trippy.

The show may have been “Alice in Wonderland”-esque, but that wasn’t what it was about. It may have been trippy, but it wasn’t about drugs.

It was bringing to life the Wm. Blake poem that was quoted throughout the show. Now it is fair to debate the meaning of the poem, but it was not about drugs.

Can you imagine if someone could somehow integrate Sibelius' Violin Concerto as part of the theme in a Sibelius based show? I can't figure out how it would work....but it's a wonderful piece. It doesn't build to resolution quickly enough for an opener in my head.

How about some Sibelius and Smetana and make it a national folk song show. Finlandia and  Moldau would work nicely together. This and some Dvorak’s Violin Concerto, and that would be awesome.

The BAC designers described the white whale as the elusive DCI title, not necessarily BD.

And I'd guess they changed the ending on finals night just to throw a curve ball, similar to what that design staff did at Crown with the redemption ending on finals night in 2016 (I think just finals night - unsure). I'd bet it had nothing to do with BD winning.

It was’t just finals night … it popped up somewhere in the regionals part of the season. I can’t remember when exactly.

I mean purely speculative. But the whole Ahab (Boston) going for the white whale (First place at finals/ taking on BD). That first place trophy being that feat they are trying to reach. They killed the white whale every night until finals where they allowed the white whale to win (BD winning again).

Huh … I never thought of the analogy of the show as Boston vs. BD. It makes sense, though.
