  1. If you go back several pages, you'll see me claiming how much better their brass is compared to last year. I also stated how the arrangements feel much meatier and drum corps-esque. The point I was making in the post you quoted was how giving insight into an unfinished product will produce mixed reactions. We, the audience, do not need to see or be a part of the design process. Keep it hidden until the time is right.
  2. Just more reason why they shouldn't announce things that are a "work in progress". Only announce things that are certain (like the music selections). We don't need to be a part of the design process. That process is usually messy, and showing us what's going on behind the curtain can produce mixed signals/reactions. It's like publishing a rough draft.... I appreciate the transparency on some things, but overall we're better off not knowing, imo.
  3. What about 2005... The Zone: Dreamscapes in Four Parts with a Door you know, just in case you didn't see the large door on the 50 yard line
  4. Sorry, but if you only ever post negative comments on EVERYTHING...you don't get to make out like you're the victim after you're called out on it. Constructive criticism with a reasonable tone is fine. But if you're going to be negative all the time, maybe keep it to yourself. It gets old and predictable. This applies to every corps and every thread. Anyways, if you heard Cadets brass at camp, it was obvious they have an improved sound compared to 2017. And that's not surprising given they have 40-50 vets. And it's silly to say all horn lines sound good standing still. Are you saying you can't tell the difference between standing in front of a Crown horn arc and another corps? C'mon.
  5. The last time Cadets went west, they had a pretty good season. Just saying.
  6. Last year, I remember everyone laughing at the costume sketch for Spirit. The oversized gauntlets looked ridiculous. But, they ended up being fine in real life, imo. Maybe the sketch artists struggle with the hand/wrist area, idk. It's a stylized drawing meant to capture an idea or vision, not necessarily reality
  7. Sorry Jim, I quoted you before you edited your post to include "uniform". I thought you were talking about all the information released (music, program concept, uniform, etc). Which I thought was a premature judgment.
  8. We already know your opinion on everything concerning Cadets
  9. The drum clip GH played is interesting. https://m.soundcloud.com/john-psathas/buyan-solo-timpani-and-digital-audio-listening-mix-24fps-20170501 Definitely a more modern approach compared to last year, musically and costuming wise. No costume changes this year. They made a point that with this year's music, they have more freedom to mold it into what they want. Something they couldn't do last year due to restrictions. Hopefully that equates to some big drum corps moments
  10. I usually find parking at the Fairgrounds. And it's a short walk
  11. I completely understand and you are warranted in feeling that way. I more or less feel the same; you won't be seeing me hyping them this offseason. I'll wait until I see it on the field before I decide to be excited
  12. I also think ditching the Bernstein deal was for the best. Too many restrictions in having to get music arrangements approved. The music I heard at camp sounded more drum corps-esque, which should appeal to a wider audience
  13. Nothing said was hype, imo. Just stating the fact that many members are returning and Drew/Tom seem to be pleased with the offseason progress. Whether that translates to success this summer is a mystery; no one knows and no one is saying that it will. However, as someone who heard the music at camp, it sounds better than last year. Doesn't mean they will place higher, as all corps get better every year and competition is stiffer than ever. But, if they can develop a solid program that the audience can get into, that is a win for this new team. They aren't going to launch back into the top 3 overnight; have to do it step by step
  14. Honestly, it's not surprising to hear there is a high percentage of vets in this year's Cadets. Despite the doom and gloom on DCP, those kids had FUN last season (something that was missing in 2016). Brass should be improved from last year. And I trust Aungst to make necessary adjustments to improve percussion from last year. The big question mark, for me, will be visual. Let's all hope the costumes are a bit more streamlined (aka no skirts).
  15. Oh ok, thanks. I thought I remember them saying the numbers for both last year. But maybe it was Hop on FB and not an official statement. Regardless, glad they are continuing with euphs
  16. Interesting that they are moving back to using baritones only. No euphoniums this year according to that update
  17. From GH's live stream, Cadets are playing Sensemaya. Much meatier brass book and sound this year from what I can hear
  18. What the F does this have to do with Cadets 2018? Some of your guys' obsession with Hop is pitiful. Something happened THIRTY YEARS AGO and you still have a grudge. Reveals a lot about you. If you want to start a Hop bashing thread, by all means go ahead. However, I'm more interested in what is happening this year, right now. Glad to hear camps are going well
  19. Actually Cavies medaled in 2011 too. 2012-2015 were "down years" after a huge staff shake up. Propaganda signaled "We're back". And they've carried that momentum to this year, passing up the reigning world champs. Essentially it took 4 seasons to get their mojo back. From my perspective, that's pretty quick. But I agree, stiffer competition nowadays. Just being top 5 is incredibly difficult.
  20. How young are we talking? I'm 23 and I still consider Cadets as being part of the elite group. They won the Ott two years ago lol. The way some of you speak, it's like it has been a generation since Cadets were great. When the Cavaliers hit a rough patch, I don't remember it being doom/gloom or "they used to be good". The people I know predicted they would make a fairly quick recovery (they did). And now Cadets find themselves in a similar situation. They'll figure it out. The 10 time world champion with the largest alumni network won't stay down for too long
  21. I was at Nightbeat and didn't see or experience this at all. It was a polite crowd response compared to Crown. But most around me enjoyed the show, especially the ending. Even heard an audible "Wow". Point being, just depends where you sit. Can't characterize all 12,000 audience members based on just the people next to you
  22. I'm a Cadets fan through and through, but after seeing Cavies last night, the green men should definitely be a 1.5-2 points ahead. Their sound and visual are so much more polished. Cadets should be aiming to overtake BAC. They have the content to do it. And the GE judges agree
  23. Drove down from DC to Nightbeat. First time seeing the performance live and I have to say the Cadets are great. It's clear they are bit younger than the corps they usually contend with. But tons of awesome GE moments. I was sitting on the 45, and the crowd around me had a pretty good reaction. Someone audibly said "WOW" during the closer. The members and staff should be proud of how far they have come this season :) sidenote: BD....good lord. Don't see anyone beating THAT. And their brass should be scoring higher than Crown IMO.
