  1. Agreed. The Hurcs guard had zero class on retreat that night. It's funny how they behaved after losing the guard caption they "assumed" they'd win... compared with the Buccaneers organization, who had a 6 six year win streak snapped the night before. Reading deserves kudos for being the classy champions that they are. I've heard nothing but great things about how they handled their loss to Minnesota. Class act. Congrats to MBI. Amazing.
  2. Also, many kids who march DCI do so for 1 or 2 years, for whatever reasons, i.e. time, money, work, school. There may be many cadets alum who have not yet reached the ripe old age of 21 marching with C2. You will have some 18, 19, 20 year old Cadets alumni with them. Not just 22-25 year old age outs.
  3. I don't think that would ever happen, would it? I will say, the new uniforms bug me. I love looking at the alumni's uniforms... those would be the original? The competing corps kick pleats were made smaller, but they don't look right, some aren't hemmed right and sit 5 inches off of the ground. I thought the Inspires uniforms were fantastic! I would imagine if the Muchachos were still around they would have graduated into exactly that. It would be cool to take the Inspires uni and put a zipper at the kick pleat, so that they can be closed during performances, then unleash the pleat for retreat, parades, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Cabs fan and love the uniform and tradition. Coolest thing in DCA. However, this year in particular, the uniforms seemed to be holding them back.
  4. I'm not 100% certain, but I feel this is the first time Cabs came to their first show with an incomplete show. Is this true? Anyway, think of all the times Bush came out with 1/2 a show, and wound up cleaning house come DCA weekend.
  5. Well, technically, a bugle has no valves... those "G Bugles" were actually "G Trumpets".. and now they have switched to Bb trumpets.
  6. Example... Cabs 2004. Probably my favorite Cabs show ever, edging out 1976 by a pinch. All original music by Key Poulan... show was awesome and moving!! Can't wait to hear what's in store this summer from the folks in Hawthorne
  7. That is hysterical. I guess then according to you there should be a new caption called "Intertwining" haha Bucs, Minnesota and Cabs all had more demanding shows then the Hurricanes. IMO.
  8. Agreed, I thought that sans their guard (which was phenomenal), they were 5th. IMO.
  9. ?? You've been getting screwed for about 28 straight years, right? You placed where you placed, no one got screwed. DCA does a great job considering how good all the corps have become. Just accept it like a man.
  10. I didn't really get this either. From 2003 on (2004 especially) I feel the Cabbies have been been stepping it up visually, if only in terms of speed and demand. Especially compared to the Hurcs for that matter. But I was there Saturday and it was definitely a much deserved win for the Hurcs, great job guys. Guard was amazing. It's good to see an "old time" corps back in the heap and mixing it up!
  11. Why is it taking so long? haha just kidding. But would really love to hear some 2008 Cabbies.
  12. Why no videos of camps/rehearsals, etc... ? Usually there are quite a few by this time of year. What gives?
  13. I just don't understand how you let something like that fall through...
  14. ...or even live. That hornline blew me away.
  15. It's on there with all the videos, check the "60th Anniversary" section. They've been keeping them there all year. Thanks Cabs, for posting all of those!
  16. Sorry I was talking about the guy from Cabs that year... seems they called him the "Bushman". Go to Cabs Website and check out the video... that is what I was originally talking about.
  17. Not to disrespect Kurt Hawkins, b/c he is amazing... but he ain't got nothing on that guy.
  18. ... Oh My God. When is the last time a soprano soloist evoked emotion like that guy? There is a spot in the 3rd number, when the sop and bari play together. Like Donny Solinger says, "that's why I do drum corps". Hearing these guys reminds me. BTW, there are solo's ALL OVER this show. As well, this was the first show Bush ever won... the big one! What a great trip down memory lane.
  19. I hope you guys march 60+ horns, huge drum line & guard, and go undefeated! That would shake up DCA nice.
  20. Thinking of what Bush's hornline did last year, I think this show (Carmen) will be amazing w/ Dennis Argul behind the wheel. Check out many of the "Carmen" pieces on iTunes. Really good stuff.
  21. both. Retreat uncensored, curses and all... following hawthorne down to the street behind the stadium for an encore. Unfortunately it's a VHS.
  22. The more I think about it I like the idea of doing "The Five Points: Gangs of New York". Irish gangs vs the american born native gangs, vs. the gov't and politicians, the fighting 69th, or Irish brigade marching down Broadway to the Bowery. Give Key Poulan the reigns w/ irish music, patriotic music, civil war stuff. I think if creative minds really come together this show would be sick. Maybe in years to come?
  23. I actually have video of 1990 DCA finals, complete with the uncensored version of retreat.
  24. I agree. It's corps like the Renegades who are responsible for this resurgence and growth that DCA is experiencing. They make one hell of a long trip at the end of the season to bring a "national" feel to the finals. Why waste time discussing and voting on this rule that will ultimately affect one corps, a corps that is actually an asset to the association? They should have spent more time in years past covering up the dirt patches in Scranton. And I can pretty much guarantee that time at these meetings would be better spent making finals in Rochester a better experience for the corps and fans. How 'bout the video? I think this is horrible. It will only get in the way of tremendous growth and success.
