The September 11th Tribute presentation has been posted to the Front Page of Drum Corps Planet.
Our sincere thanks to George Dixon and Fran (Cascade Mama) of Quest Graphics Design for the work they did in creating this presentation .... and to Jeff Spanos and the Madison Scouts for their permission to use the recording of their performance of "You'll Never Walk Alone".

This topic calls for pure speculation, and isn't fair to Mr. Koester.

Regarding narration.........If you saw Blue Stars this season, narration REALLY fit well into the "theme" of their show. IMO, the finest use of narration to-date.

It was a wonderful night of drum corps, new and old. You're in for a treat at Semi's.

Could you explain what the point is, please?

From experience............'76 was a great year for crowd support. In '77, although there were mermers of "their on cruise control", and "too robotic" to name a couple, we were appreciated, and supported by a good majority of the drum corps audience, Phantom was definetly the "crowd favorite".
Coming off back-to-back wins, '78 was "interesting" from a member's view. Personally, I felt the majority REALLY wanted either SCV or PR to deny a three-peat, which was fine. Once again, the drum corps crowd still showed appreciation and respect towards the corp, and that was magnified in Denver at DCI Finals. It was one of the most electrifying crowd reaction throughout the show since '76, it almost seemed as though the crowd was "willing us to win".
By far, during the '79 season, those crowd reactions seemed much more "golf clapish". Sure, it was supportive, but as we swept through the season, fans seemed to become "bored" with our winning successes. Once again, it was "PR-mania" throughout the country.
Then came 1980, which i've wrote about before. After three DCI Championships in four years, I truly believe drum corps, and the fans were ready for a new champion. Things that I thought I would never hear, or see regarding the crowds at shows surfaced. Sometimes, it was downright rude, but all in all, it "focused" the entire organization more than ever before.
Since '80 Finals at Birmingham would be the last time I stepped onto a field competitively, it will always hold a special place in my heart. I must say, the crowd that night was UNBELIEVABLE. All talk was about 2-7, Bridgemen, and Spirit coming away with the title, and rightly so. They ALL had OUTSTANDING corps.
But, MY GAWD, after the dust had settled, and we lined up to begin what would become the MOST exciting, electric show I had EVER been a part of, you could just FEEL the vibes, and excitement from the crowd.
That night in Birmingham, there is NO question in my mind, the crowd was the reason we captured our 4th title in 5 years. Personally, after the 60 second warmup, I think my heart was beating 200 MPH.
All in all, maybe things would have been different if we had "cruised" through the season as we did in '76, '77, and '79. Perhaps there may have been more scrutiny, who knows?
Bottomline..........if you put a product on the field that fans, and judges appreciate, "they will come".

Nice to see the "old school" mentioned. It always makes me smile. :)

Let me say this............
As a member of the community *takes off CA hat*, I couldn't really care who the poster is........ the point being, what was said was relevant to the environment for ALL at DCP land.
*Puts CA hat back on* :P

If you have any differences, that's YOUR opinion, which is fine also. However, I would strongly suggest you respect ones' opinion, and state your own in a respectful manner.
I would also suggest you review this thread.

i don't want to burst any bubbles - but we've pruned hundreds of thousands of posts over the years and "recounted" the total several times... I have no idea how many the total actually is but its way over 1M
You beat me to the punch, George.

I just arrived to the stream...AND IT WON"T WORK!
This may have been covered, but reading 46 pages will take a little long...anyone have problems getting the stream to load with Firefox? I haven't had any problems with any of the prior streams.
You need to use IE, it's to "hot" for Firefox.

No so much "total" GE in this case. GE Visual made up the most significant spread.
