    Similar story with my high school color guard.  No males allowed per tradition.  Practiced my butt off and showed up to auditions and made the guard.  Got a lot of flack from the football team at first but it died down after I told one of the star players I spent 4 weeknights of 3-hour rehearsals surrounded by girls.

    Flag: Demonstrating how a performing member can maneuver a bedsheet on a stick to help visually amplify the music. (Also to rally the troops, defend, retreat, intimidate the enemy, and unify the team)

    Sabre: Demonstrating how a performing member can showcase dexterity and subtle power through nuance. (Also to stab, slice, cut, parry...)

    Dance: Demonstrating how a performing member can exhibit agility and technical skill through the art of movement. (Also to slap, punch, bite, pull hair, scratch, drop-kick, round-kick, strangle, whatever...)

    Rifle: Demonstrating how a performing member can prove skills in strength, accuracy, and composure. (Also to shoot, pistol-whip)

    It's all explicit or implicit violence even if there is no actual violence involved in the show.  DCI should be completely removed and replaced with non-stop Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting.

     

    Wait a second.  Wasn't Bob Ross a Master Sergeant in the U.S Air Force?

    "Unfortunately, there was no cooperation at all from anyone making those accusations. Despite our pleas for cooperation, we were told so long as George remained in his role, no one would allow herself to be interviewed or reveal any facts that might confirm the allegations. No responsible board of directors can take action based solely on anonymous allegations. One of the many disappointments in this regrettable situation is third parties who claimed specific knowledge of these allegations failed to assist in bringing this to a proper resolution, offering instead to bury those same allegations if the board took preemptive action.  The investigation proceeded anyway."

    I call ########. This so called investigation was clearly not independent.  They tried to cooperate given the following requirements:

    1. if the nonprofit hired an independent investigator; and,
    2. Hopkins was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation

    I really hope Kevin Hahn and the alleged victims file police reports.

    YEA needs to pull The Cadets and Cadets2 from all competition for the 2018 season.  

    Why?  There will only be this distraction for this year.  Heck, parents may pull their kids out and leave them barely able to field a corps.  Take 2018 to revamp and restructure the organization.  Comeback after finals with everything in place to start the 2019 preparations even stronger.  Show everyone that hey, yes this happened.  But we’ve taken steps to make sure it won’t happen again.  You can’t run a tour and try and recover from this.

    Thoughts?

    This is a competitive activity.  Such an action would mean conceding defeat.  I highly doubt Cadets would easily concede or go down without a fight for 2018.

    Members have paid most of their dues and have been rehearsing their show.  Spring training is in about one month.

    There is no reason to give up.  Just my opinion.

    "DCI was unaware of the specific allegations highlighted in the recent article. We take these allegations seriously, and in addition to reaching out to the participating organization, DCI will also conduct its own internal review to determine whether any current members of our staff were aware of these allegations and failed to report them, as required by DCI policy.

    "In addition, DCI continues to review and update its policies, procedures and practices – with the goal of educating and increasing awareness to all who participate in its sanctioned programs and activities.     I think the Cadets are strong enough to survive this, but YEA must take these allegations seriously.

    The Cadets will recover as the strong corps it is.  It may take some time and there are many people that will step up to the plate given the chance.

    ...Or Allentown Police Department opening a case.  These are criminal allegations.

    It's also apparently involving multiple jurisdictions in which the statute of limitations may have paused.
