  1. The announcer was having vets (previous people who had marched st various corps) stand up and be acknowledged by the audience and then made a stupid joke saying, "Should we have these people checked for Melanoma/skin cancer?... something to that effect.
  2. 1996 Blue Knights baritone here: Near the end of the season this happened to me. Had a horrible drill pass-through and I was at the end where we had to pass through the contras at an opposite angle while jazz running and I was at the end. During a show, I was chugging along and went through the motions don't exactly remember but My horn hit the back of a contra and I stumbled around and went through the motions until the end. Luckily, it was like the third to last set of the show. I got a fat lip and was shaken up from it. The next day we looked at the passthrough and since I was at the end and everyone else could make it safely through, the compromise from the wonderful staff was for me to pull the horn away and move it off to the side and just march the spot. I hated that part of the show and can see my solo horn move in the finals video. Way to go BK!! Keep innovating!!
  3. Yup. Good memory! "The music of Ron Nelson" was the name of that show "Rocky Point Holiday" and "Sonoran Dessert Holiday". And yes a small brass line that year. Two interesting things in the show - The guard uses a half-circle thing for a portion of the show they called "Wagon Wheels" and at the end of the show, the tenors switch out their drums for these giant dual toms that they called "tubs".
  4. I marched Blue Knights in 1996. In the Quarter Finals show, there was a huge gust of wind and lightning. People's shakos were blown over to the sides of our heads... The guard's equipment was all over the place. They stopped us after the first song and we waited under the stands to get our second chance. When we stopped after the first song it was so confusing. The audience was confused and we were even more confused. Our show was really boring and we could only do so much with it... ~Greg
