  1. I am so confused about all of the hype behind this show design... I know people are annoyed that I've commented on this before, but after seeing Phantom live in the midst of the other top 8 corps in San Antonio, I just don't understand how they are scoring so high in visual & GE... It is such a boring show, visually. The visual design makes it feel so slow and it just drags on. Even the music loses impact when watching it in person, because the intensity of movement doesn't match the intensity with which they're playing. Granted, I don't think Phantom's had a super complex/highly entertaining visual program since 2010. I brought a couple people to the San Antonio show yesterday who had never seen drum corps before and they all unanimously agreed that Phantom had the most boring show of the last eight corps.
  2. I get that. I did ask in jest. So I apologize for it being distasteful.
  3. Haha, I'm actually a longtime fan of Phantom... But, I'm genuinely curious in hearing people's thoughts specifically on that aspect of their show. With how much the activity has been changing and evolving, I do actually find it concerning that corps' visual programs are able to score so high without actually marching (or marching and playing). That's one of the foundational aspects of marching band/drum corps (marching arts).
  4. Haha, okay... 🙂 So you don't care for my opinion. Thanks for expressing that.
  5. Haha. I genuinely do think it's worth discussing. Doesn't DCI fall under the "marching" arts?
  6. Edit: I posted the original question (below) in jest. I apologize for the distasteful nature in which I initiated this thread. I'm just curious to hear if others have noticed a significant lacking in marching/marching and playing in this show. People have asked "who cares?" But, I actually do as a long-time supporter and participant of the marching arts. I am all for innovation and the evolution of the activity as corps try new things to advance it. But with something so fundamental to the activity, I don't understand why others wouldn't be concerned about the activity moving so far away from what actually distinguishes the activity as the "marching" arts. Where is it? *Share ONE high-impact drill movement where the corps is MARCHING (preferably playing as well) besides the move into the company front and last four sets. Can you?
  7. Haha, not to be too mean, but can you really call it "marching" with Phantom this year? More like run around to your dot, horns up, freeze to play, lunge to the left, lunge to the right, plié, lean to the left, stop playing, horns down, run to your next dot. There is almost NO actual marching in their show. I went through and watched it on mute just to focus on their drill and see if I was just being dramatic, but it is very very very limited throughout their show (if I'm wrong, I'll own up to it, but can anyone tell me their most effective drill move in the show and name anything other than the big hit at the end?) I LOVE Phantom and I'm so glad to hear their hornline coming back (seriously, they sound incredible), but I really don't understand how their visual scores/GE scores are as high as they are when they basically never move while playing and stand still at every big moment in the show. It's SOOOOOOO boring, visually. Am I the only one??
