  1. The published recaps list Webb as MA for Saturday night (like he was for Friday night). However, at the start of Saturday night’s show the announcer announced a different judge on MA. However, it’s also very possible that they didn’t give the announcer an updated judges list on Saturday night (like how they didn’t give him an updated schedule on Friday night and he almost went to internission).
  2. That was my point. They had two fewer weeks on tour than usual this year. They would have had two more weeks of progress by the time COVID hit.
  3. It’s a shame Troopers didn’t have their first competition until July 8. They’re usually on the road opening weekend. If they had started a week or two earlier, I think talk of them being in finals could have been a lot more like “11th or 12th?” vs. “will they?”
  4. @NebraskaGBR The time interval between Troopers and Blue Knights is also off (only 10 minutes instead of 17). DCI clearly published that schedule incorrectly.
  5. You keep pointing to 2019 and Crown/SCV. In Allentown, Crown's score was less than 0.1 ahead of SCV's from the previous night. At Finals, SCV finished less than 0.1 ahead of Crown. It is entirely conceivable that Crown on Saturday was ever-so-slightly better than SCV was one night prior. You've really picked this hill to die on and I don't know why. No one is disagreeing that the logistics of treating it as one show are shaky, but the fact of the matter is that the INTENT is that both nights are treated as a single show. That's all everyone is saying.
  6. No, it's the average of San Antonio, Atlanta, and Allentown. I think Troop still averages 14th.
  7. I'm pretty sure Flo lowered the gain on their mics at some point recently because my EQ is maxing out way lower than it did for the other corps tonight.
  8. Crown has their rifle toss on the "10" of the countdown back! Is that the guy who got hit in the head a couple weeks ago? Hope so and that he's back!
  9. No, because I feel that it already HAS that vibe, even WITH the narration and new costumes.
  10. SCV and Cadets were in the 4-6 block together. Then from random draw for performance order, Cadets lucked out with the later time slot.
  11. They didn't used to be though, right? Wasn't their percussion a pretty major strength in the recent past?
  12. They're far from the only corps to do that. It gives the corps total control over the timing of the announcement. For some programs, the announcement being mistimed could potentially ruin an intended impact/effect. They might also be attempting to set a particular mood/tone with the voice.
  13. I'm pretty sure it was because modern-day charter busses have a slightly increased seating capacity over what they once had, so the max MM number was increased to reflect/take advantage of that. Transportation is expensive, so if corps are paying for empty seats, that's lost money.
  14. I definitely did NOT have "two corps playing 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' in the same contest" on my drum corps bingo card.
  15. Well, I take that back. They swapped out Webb with Paul Smith for tonight but he's the ONLY MA judge. Interesting and surprising they didn't have Webb judge the second night (unless he was unable to).
  16. That's yet to be seen, but I'd be a little surprised if they do end up putting a judge in the second MA slot for tonight.
  17. Except Allentown is the exception. Same panel both nights and they treat it as one large show over two days, including using Friday's numbers for reference. The comparison is shakier because (1) one set of corps technically had an additional day of rehearsal before competing, and (2) the judges are only human but do their best to remember performances from the previous night.
  18. I think a lot of people overlook also the care that was taken in the writing for voice and brass here. This isn’t merely the brass playing accompaniment to a vocalist—both the brass and vocalist carry melody that trade-off or complement each other simultaneously.
