  1. no, I wish I could be there, but I have to be flying that day.
  2. OMG, I was just listening to '94 SCV, the Red Poppy-Hunt for Red October, and they had this awesome Sop lick. I dunno if it was during the Allegro and Romances, or the Russian Sailor's Dance, but I completely forgot about it and it is, HERE; HAVE MY BABY!!
  3. yeah yeah yeah...ok, I'll admit...Star's prelims '92 was the BEST hornline ever...no one has ever gotten a perfect score.
  4. LOL...my bad, I just play the darn thing. I could care less who makes it!
  5. Very true!!! '92 is when they received their perfect hornline score of 100. I think it was Friday nights performance that this happened. This was also a better performance for the Cavies too.
  6. ahhhh, '96 PR....'nough said! maybe your friend was just jealous that he wasn't in the hornline that year! Me personally, I really can't recall a good Cavie hornline, except for '95, and '00-'01. But they are getting better and better...####, could you imagine what the Cavies would be like if they had a killer Hornline, their famous killer Drumline, and their Awesome Guard all together in one year.......one can only wish! With BD, in my opinion, they are always awesome, but most of the time they have the hard licks is when most of the hornline is standing around and jamming. They are not moving 3-8 across the field in a jazz run. So they can work on their intonnation a little more.
  7. ahhh...auditions. Mine was just like Matt's. It was more of a group criticism than anything. In November 1990, I don't remember how many guys were there, barely 60 people all together. When I went to audition, I knew not a thing about valves, being a Trombone player and all. So Packy-John Timmons-'90 DM, stood in front of me and told me to play the selections that we had been working on, and if I had problems, he was there in front of me showing me the fingerings for the valves. They were pretty much looking for tone and quality then rather than knowing how to play a baritone. The process was very relaxing, even though most of us were nervous as ####. I do remember at the January camp, a group of us were asked to go outside and told that we needed to either learn the parts, or think about not coming back. Myself and Linh Shladweiller came back better prepared at the next camp. I marched for another year, and Linh Age-out in '95. In 1992, they were just happy to see the 'old guy's' come back...still around 60 people total at the camp. They told us that the vets were going to audition, but I don't remember doing so. This past November, I had the honor of going to the Cavies camp. I ran into some old guys that were 'Old Guys' when I was marching, and we were amazed! There were enough horn players to create a little more than 3 complete horn lines! The same was for the drumline and guard. can you imagine over 80 Bari's and Euph's!!! It was awesome to see the turn out. Of course, most of the guys were asked to not come back, I just hope that they went somewhere else to audition! If I were auditioning today, I honestly don't think I would be able to make the cut!
  8. If I remember, we had DEG in '91-'92 and they were pretty easy to flip up and down....If they weren't DEG, they were Dynasty.
  9. All I'm going to say is I think it is awesome when a horn line can hit a Chord and make it sound so Full and Rich and give you goose bumps that you can hear everysingle person playing and every voice! There are several corps that can do this to me, different years, and I just love them for it!
  10. For some reason, I thought that all corps were the same..never really noticed I guess. But this was very comfortable. Playing with the Baritone was much the same way. Now I was a Trombone player in HS, and learning to hold the Baritone with the Cavies just came as another thing to learn. I just didn't like the slamming the horn down to your knees in '92 before the start of 'Peterloo'. had bruises for months afterwards! I can still feel the caluses!
  11. I started playing my Trombone with braces on way back in the day, many moons ago....I was good, but when I got them taken off in 8th grade, I was even better. I don't know what it is like to go from not having them to having them, so good luck. If they do hurt, or cut your lips while playing, do ask your orthodonist for the wax....that does wonders!!! GOOD LUCK!
  12. '91 had their best horn score ever!! I do agree that '92 was a more mature sound, but how can you beat a score of-100? oh wait..that was '92 wasn't it...my bad! but still!!!
